My try at Lythari [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-08-07, 01:00 PM Hi all, this is just what I came up with for the lythari (elven shapechangers).
In total, its worth seven levels (4 Hit Dice, and a +3 LA). I used a Large-sized wolf as their shapechanged form, and a lot of the abilities vary with whether or not the lythari was a natural born one, or if the elf became a lythari later on.
I'd love to know what you think of it. :)

Here we go ...

The lythari presented here is based on a moon elf and natural lycanthrope, using the following base ability scores before racial modifiers: Str 13, Dex 11, Con 12, Int 10, Wis 9, Cha 8.

Lythari, Elf Form
Medium humanoid (elf, extraplanar, shapechanger)
Hit Dice: 4d8+16 (32 hp)
Initiative: +1
Speed: 30 ft.
Armor Class: 14 (+1 Dex, +3 natural)
Base Attack/Grapple: +3/+4
Attack: Unarmed +4 melee (1d3+1 nonlethal)
Full Attack: Unarmed +4 melee (1d3+1 nonlethal)
Space/Reach: 5 ft./5 ft.
Special Attacks: -
Special Qualities: Alternate form, damage reduction 10/silver, elven traits, gift of the lythari, low-light vision, plane shift, scent, wolf empathy

Alternate Form (Su): A lythari has the ability to assume the form of a large wolf that is 10 feet in length. Lythari have no hybrid form. They also have complete control over their ability to change form, which takes a standard action.
Elven Traits (Ex): Lythari possess the following elven racial traits.
- The lythari presented here uses a moon elf (+2 Dex, -2 Con), but this varies with the subrace of elf the lythari has while in elven form. Most are wood, wild, or moon elves.
- Immunity to sleep spells and effects, and a +2 racial saving throw against enchantment spells and effects.
- Low-light vision.
- +2 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot checks. An elf who merely passes within 5 feet of a secret or concealed door is entitled to a Search check to notice it as if she was actively looking for it.
Gift of the Lythari (Su): Lythari do not suffer from the Curse of Lycanthropy, and can only pass on their strain of lycanthropy to other elves. This is done via a secret ritual of bonding to which the other elf must willingly consent of their own free will. Lythari cannot pass on their lycanthropy with a bite.
Plane Shift (Su): This ability can affect the lythari and up to two allies. It's only destinations are the lythari's den on the Plane of Faerie, and the Material Plane.
Trip (Ex): A lythari in wolf form that hits with a bite attack can attempt to trip the opponent (+2 check modifier) as a free action without making a touch attack or provoking an attack of opportunity. If the attempt fails, the opponent cannot react to trip the lythari.
Wolf Empathy (Ex): Communicate with wolves and dire wolves, and with a +4 racial bonus on Charisma-based checks against wolves and dire wolves.
Skills: A lythari in wolf form gains a +4 racial bonus on Survival checks when tracking by scent.

Creating a Lythari
Lythari is a form of lycanthropy that can be added to any elf (referred to hereafter as the base elf). It can be inherited (for a natural lythari) or acquired.
- Type: The base elf's type does not change, but it gains the extraplanar and shapechanger subtype.
- Large size while in wolf form. -1 penalty to Armor class, -1 penalty on attack rolls, -4 penalty on Hide checks, +4 bonus on grapple checks, lifting and carrying limits double those of Medium characters.
- Elven traits: A lythari in elven form usually has silver hair, and blue or green eyes. However, they may have the racial ability score modifiers of any of the following elven subraces: Wood elf, Wild elf, or Moon elf. These are the most common sort of elves the lythari are while in elven form. If the lythari is natural born, they do not gain the Weapon Proficiencies of the elven subrace, or the favored class.
- +10 Strength, +2 Dexterity, +8 Constitution, +2 Wisdom. These are applied after the elven form's ability score modifiers are applied (see Elven Traits, below), and with the exception of the Wisdom modifier, only occur while in wolf form.

After trying to put this together for a friend, I'm officially sick of the word "lythari." XD
