Neo-Orog? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-24-08, 12:51 PM Hello, I recently played BG2 and Ice Wind Dale 2 again and I came across this creature called Neo-Orog.

I know what an Orog is.. but Neo-Orog? No clue.
Was wandering if any one can explain to me whatever it is, and if possible pinpoint me to an existing monster stat.

03-25-08, 04:13 PM -It's not ringing a bell. Here is my opinion though: They are, more or less palatte swaps of regular Orogs, with a different name and different look, to indicate a higher (or lower) challenge.

I found the entry under Wikipedia:Orog-

In the Dungeons & Dragons fantasy role-playing game, an orog is a crossbreed between a male orc and a female ogre. Orogs usually live among orcs; they are stronger, more intelligent, and more highly disciplined than typical orcs. They seem[attribution needed] to have been inspired by the Uruk Hai from the Lord of the Rings.

Variants on the orog include the neo-orog and the ogrillion. The neo-orog is a specific orc-ogre crossbreed created by the Red Wizards of Thay to be used as elite soldiers. The ogrillion is the brutish, armor-skinned offspring of a female orc and a male ogre.

In the Forgotten Realms setting, Orogs were an orc tribe who became cut off from their mountain home after a great attack into the civilised world, they eventually found a way into the Underdark and hid from their Elven and human enemies. They remained in the Underdark for thousands of years, fighting deniziens of that terrible realm all the time. Eventually they became superior in strength and personality to normal mountain Orcs.

Both orogs and ogrillions appear in BioWare's Baldur's Gate PC games.

I almost lol'ed at the idea of two wild, savage race can produce a disciplined offspring.

04-24-08, 11:27 PM I like how everyone is talking 2e. 3e orog is an underdark orc, right? I hate when they take a good thing and ruin it. The orog in 2e was on of my favorite creatures. They were elite orcs, usually taller, stronger and better armed. An older (I can't remember the date) monster manual stated this, but also it mentioned that an orog may have ogre blood in them.
