| RooktheFury02-20-07, 05:05 PM | Is there a build out there for a swashbuckling paladin? If there isn't, could someone please build one and post it. |
| Diffan02-20-07, 06:05 PM | well, considering that the usual swashbuckler is a dexterious fighter, they really have little in common. The paladin's main ability score is CHA where as the swashbuckler's would be DEX and INT. You could probably do it, though it might not work very well. |
| RooktheFury02-20-07, 11:22 PM | I was thinking more along the lines of a paladin variant that made it more like a swashbuckler, or any other class that uses a bit more finesse. Sorry for being unclear. THANKS |
| Lord Karsus02-22-07, 05:17 PM | -Give your Paladin a rapier, make him/her weaker light armor, and play him/her as more suave than most Paladins. I think this is more of a roleplaying issue than an mechanics issue. |
| RooktheFury02-22-07, 06:22 PM | Perhaps. Maybe I could then multiclass him with the duelist if he can qualify. |

You patrol the High Seas, fighting off pirates, making trade routes safe, and bedding the occassional lass in the process! :D |
| GothicDan02-22-07, 09:40 PM | Valkur's CG! |
| Lord Karsus02-22-07, 11:17 PM | -Your point? If we're going to be having swashbuckling Paladins, who cares about the alignment of Valkur! |
| Stigger02-23-07, 04:36 AM | A swashbuckling paladin of Sune would work quite nicely... could even see it as completely within logic given their religious ethos. Not sure why there's this seeming insistence that paladins must be dour and stoic... why can't they be charming and graceful, great dancers, witty conversationists, fantastic lovers, etcetera and so forth, particularly considering just how many of them occupy positions within courts and the like? And just why couldn't a paladin of Tyr be a swashbuckler? So long as he fulfills his duties to Tyr, what does it matter if he's holding a rapier instead of a greatsword, in a billowing shirt and dashing boots instead of full plate? Does Tyr really care if he flirts with pretty ladies, sips the occassional wine, and swings from the odd chandelier every now and then if he's upholding his duties to ensure justice being served? Torm, maybe, with that whole duty and obedience thing would go that way, and possibly Ilmater given the sorts of people he'd attract just by his portfolio, and maybe even Helm would get a bit touchy if it was distracting him, but that's about it really. |
| Diffan02-23-07, 03:44 PM | -Your point? If we're going to be having swashbuckling Paladins, who cares about the alignment of Valkur! Or the alignment of the paladin? I mean there are varient versions of the pally from UA! :) (I know people HATE the variant versions, but it's a thought) |
| Paragon_of_Tyr02-24-07, 12:52 PM | Arcane Duelist: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/re/20030224a Good synergy with a Paladin/Bard build, the Level 2 Cha bonus to AC is a good boost - I was thinking along the lines of Arcane Devotee/Initiate of Milil build. |
| RooktheFury02-24-07, 09:30 PM | Thanks guys! Keep it coming, too as this convorsation is rather interesting. Personally, I don't see why any good god can't have paladins, or even evil gods with evil paladins (It only makes sense that there would be balance). |

Personally, I don't see why any good god can't have paladins, or even evil gods with evil paladins (It only makes sense that there would be balance). It depends on how you define the word "paladin". D&D from TSR days until today have always considered the definition of "pure & good". By definition, the class is LG. However, many view the paladin as the "holy warrior", which of course lends itself much more flexibility. I personally would prefer that, or perhaps create a new base class such as the Champion, that would be the holy warrior or various faiths, sects and creeds. |

In FR, a lot of the LN aligned, Good-aligned gods have a paladin order somewhere. Even the most unlikely gods like Sune and Milil. It doesn't change them from LG, but still, I like the freedom and flavor of Faerun's pantheon in that aspect. Evil gods have blackguards, as good a Paladin as you're gonna get - if you don't count the other class varieties like Hexblades to fill up that spot on evil campaigns. |
