| princeofcincinnati02-12-07, 10:46 AM | I've decided to play a knight from PH2, but not too familar with the FR setting. What would be a choice of knightly order? What would be a good multiclass/prestige class? |
| Lord Karsus02-12-07, 11:31 AM | -Well, tell us a little more about the ideas bouncing around in your head concerning said knight? |
| rolig02-12-07, 01:53 PM | Id say that there is many. I mention Purple dragon kinght and theyan knight... i cannot remember how knight og silver marches is... but perhaps it works. Anyhow you always have cavalier from the complete warrior book. And think perhaps legendary leader from heroes of battle might fit. But tell a bit more if you would:) |
| MarkusTay6302-12-07, 02:28 PM | I'd definately give him a few levels of Cavalier, if you don't want him to be a Pally. Also, if you were looking to multi-class later, there's Eldritch Knight, but it sounds like your in the market for something a little more generic. EDIT: NM, I just realized your looking for groups to join, not builds. The Thread title threw me. In that case there is also the Red Plumes. |
| Calmar02-12-07, 02:39 PM | Do you think working for the racists is such an attractive job? ;) |
| princeofcincinnati02-12-07, 03:27 PM | So far I'm thinking Knight/ Knight Protector or Knight/Fighter. If Im a purple dragon knight they dont travel do they? I dont want to be a thay knight. I'm looking to be LN so no paladin combo. What other knighthoods are there? |
| MarkusTay6302-12-07, 03:32 PM | Do you think working for the racists is such an attractive job? ;)No, but it is a knightly order, and thats what the OP is looking for. I didn't think that the Thayan Knight was appropriate either, since the class is specifically designed to protect Red Wizards, but that would be the OP's call. However, being an ex-Red Plume who is seeking enlightenment and trying to fight-off his preconceptions would make a VERY interesting character dynamic. Unfortunately, Most Knightly Orders are associated with kingdoms, unlike DL or even REAL WORLD Knightly orders. I think their are a few associated with churchs, but I don't think you want to go that route either. Check THIS LINK. (http://www.candlekeep.com/library/articles/knighthood.htm) It should help. |
| Calmar02-12-07, 03:54 PM | Well, the actual knightly 'orders' in RL were all religiously in nature (AFAIK), like the Templars, or the Teutonic Knights. Therefore probably best suited for paladins and clerics. I would say a knight should be treated like an 'aristocrat-class for players'. Being the scion of a noble, merchant or anyone similar, but being without religious zeal could be a good starting point (I mean like a fighter does not need to be part of a guild, army, etc.). Otherwise, like MarkusTay63 suggested, any military organization, ranging from a cityguard, to the army of a nation like Sembia or Amn, could use knight as what they were used in RL: elite fighting forces on the battleground. |
| Khaelieth02-12-07, 04:47 PM | Knight of Myth Drannor! Hrm. Perhaps not. Helmite knights are alright, they're probably got a few. Work with the DM to invent an order, much more fun! Say your order is slaughtering Mazticans and other scum! |
| rolig02-12-07, 05:35 PM | Refering to the class discription of Purple dragon knight from the forgotten realm campain setting. It's written that you could simply use the dragon knight rulse as a base for different kinds of knights, just rename the class and follow what the lvl's do. If you want that kind of charachter ofcourse. |
| honestiago02-15-07, 12:59 PM | I currently have a 3rd level Knight of Torm. I am also utilitzing the BoED and she has pledged an oath to the Celestial Seatiel to defend and protect the weak. So, naturally she will dip into the Defender of Seatiel (similar to the Knight protector but with d12, and spell-like abilities) prestige class and maybe the 3 level class Sword of Righteousness as well. The SoR basically gives you a bonus Exalted Feats at each level plus good Fort/Will saves. The Cavalier can be brutual when using a lance in combat, however you are relying too much on mounted combat feats. You will be useless when in any kind of dis-mounted combat Also, I would look into some of the Tactical Feats, as they give you some cool combat manuever options and FR Regional feats, such as Fearless |
| Diffan02-16-07, 01:29 PM | I am also playing a knight in the FR setting. Though I'm LG i probably won't go to a paladin because i won't get the kinda feats I'll need to make a good character. I was thinking about going 7 levels into knight, then prestige classing into a Divine Champion of Torm for 4 levels then into a Pious Templar. Though if your looking into knightly orders there are a slew. Most though require some levels of paladin but if you just want to be in an order for flavor, there are companions of the nobe heart (order of ilmater), Knights of the eternal order (order of Kelemvor), Order of the Red Falcon (order of the Red Knight) just to name a few. These and many more are found in the Champions of Valor. |
| MarkusTay6302-16-07, 03:26 PM | These and many more are found in the Champions of Valor. Not to mention the ones I already provided with THIS LINK. (http://boards1.wizards.com/leaving.php?destination=http://www.candlekeep.com/library/articles/knighthood.htm) Just in case you guys missed it above, it was sort of buried at the bottom of my post. |
| LittleCarp0402-21-07, 05:00 PM | Purple Dragon FTW |
| Mad Mage02-21-07, 07:55 PM | My advice, princeofcincinnati, is to hope for an entry for the Knight class to come out in the Class Chronicles on the Forgotten Realms webpage. |
| Diffan02-21-07, 08:10 PM | Not to mention the ones I already provided with THIS LINK. (http://boards1.wizards.com/leaving.php?destination=http://www.candlekeep.com/library/articles/knighthood.htm) Um.....on that link, why are there LN paladins? |
| Quijenoth02-22-07, 05:21 PM | I've decided to play a knight from PH2, but not too familiar with the FR setting. What would be a choice of knightly order? What would be a good multi class/prestige class? Being not to familiar with FR I would like to point out that the Forgotten Realms is very Deity intensive. what I mean by this is not only are there a lot of deities to choose from but almost every sentient being in Faerun has a Patron Deity. Those who don't are labelled "faithless". With that in mind I would consider multiclassing your knight with cleric or favored soul levels and prestige class towards a clerical deity, or, aim for a more combat orientated prestige class which links to a specific deity, Divine Champion springs to mind. |
| Kurama Youko02-23-07, 10:18 PM | Well, if you like magic a little and obtaining / ascending to a higher level while keeping with knightly virtues and such. Prehapes take a look at the Divine Crusader, you dont have any paladin like codes of conduct but you need to worship a deity, maybe Torm or the Red Knight depending on your out look. That prestige class can be found in Complete Divine by the way. |
| MarkusTay6302-24-07, 01:03 AM | Um.....on that link, why are there LN paladins?Actually, I didn't write it, and I really didn't read through it, just skimmed it. I found it for the OP. Maybe Sage can shed some light on that, it's his site after all. |
| Diffan02-24-07, 09:50 AM | Actually, I didn't write it, and I really didn't read through it, just skimmed it. I found it for the OP. Maybe Sage can shed some light on that, it's his site after all. Ah, ok. I was just confused, though I wouldn't mind seeing a class that has the pally abilities that's STRICTLY about law. Would be pretty cool. |
| Quintahlas02-26-07, 03:53 PM | You could ALWAYS create your own Knightly Order, It could be Religious in nature, or even Racial, or Regonal. for a Racial order i have been toying with the idea of a Duskblade (DMG2)/Crusader or Weaponmaster of the Elven Order of the Twilight Defenders that take a more proactive role in the defense of thier community by unting down anyone or anything that violates their forest home. Even if said creature leaves the forest, they dispatch 1 Knight to hunt and not return without the head of the transgressor. By using Magic and Blades there is nothing they cannot handle. Just a thought...... |
| Mad Mage02-28-07, 02:34 AM | Tymora smiles on you, princeofcinncinnati. The Knight class was covered in the latest edition of Class Chronicles (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/frcc/20070228). |
| MarkusTay6303-05-07, 12:49 AM | Just thought I'd mention something I just found - A lot of Knightly orders and how they are organized are covered in the City of raven's Bluff product, available HERE (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads) for FREE download. |
