| Eilistraeeeee04-06-07, 10:16 AM | I'm preparing to play an Alienist in an FR campaign, and I heard that there has been a FR novel featuring one, but I don't know the title, but i'd like to read it to get some extra information on playing one. Can anyone tell me something on playing an Alienist in FR, some references to known Alienists maybe, or any other info that would seem helpful. thanks |
| BadCatMan04-06-07, 11:29 AM | The Marco Volo adventures, here: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads reportedly had Far Realms related enemies. There's a pseudonatural dragon guarding a temple of Tiamat in Unther, described in Dragons Of Faerun. I heard something somewhere, possibly that novel, about cultists in Waterdeep. And anywhere you find Mind Flayers and other aberrations you could expect to find something Lovecraftian. |
| EytanBernstein04-10-07, 01:33 AM | We've made a few references here and there to pseudonatural and Lovecraftian elements in the Realms recently. Dragons of Faerun has several examples. There is a pseudonatural dragon guarding the Well of Dragons known as Arsekaslyx. She found the bone scepter of Zceryll "the star spawn", a strange and alien extraplanar entity. Zceryll is believed by some scholars to be associated with ancient Imaskar, but it is unknown how its influence and/or items have spread to other areas of the Realms. The aberrant sphere, a new item in the Magic Item Compendium, is linked to Zceryll (this is discuss in the MIC in the Realms Preview #4). Also, Dagon references exist in the Cliffs of Karthaut adventure (and will likely be followed up elsewhere). |

Specifically, it's noted in the Dragonking details in CoS:W... pg. 63 -- under the Wands noble family entry. The original reference was in the 3rd of the "Marco Volo" modules in which the Dragonking makes a brief appearance in the Realms. (I wouldn't really recommend this adventure trilogy however, but they are considered part of canon Realmslore). Eric tells us he that tried to work with them when expanding on the Dragonking entry in CoS. You can find the modules here (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/dnd/downloads) for free. From there, the Dragonking was mentioned in Volo's Guide to All Things Magical -- under the entry for the "Dragonking's Eye". Eric, thus, continued with the reference into CoS:W and makes a more solid connection to the Far Realm... |
