What would be a good Range/Skill based Prestige class for a Rogue?

I don't know about how many skills they have but I would check out the master thrower. I was considering one at one point. Their range isn't huge, as they are throwers but it keeps a good distance between you and the enemy. I know one of the abilities you can get is a throwing trip attack, which is good at making it very difficult to get close to you. Overall a cool class, though I would maybe think about taking some fighter classes first also.

There are plenty of other range based prestige classes, but alot of them go along with a ranger type theme, didn't know if that was what you were looking for.

Races of the Wild - Whisperknife (Halfling PRC though)

The Master Thrower is nice too :)

as a skill based prc, i would probably choose the shadow thief of amn ? Should be in the Players Guide to Faerun afaik - gotta check that later in my books :o)

[and if you think about taking some magic classes (wiz, sor, warlock perhaps?) you could take the new classes from the Complete Mage / Complete Scoundrel / Complete Adventurer ]

I allways fancied the dagger specc on rogues.. sneaking with a two hander sorta takes away a certain finesse :D

Anyways, here is a nice build fer a rogue.

Ranger 2
Rogue 13
Invisible Blade 5

Looks pretty simple and is really just that. No fancy shmancy twinking there. Two plain core classes, and one PrC. What I like about this build is that you will be well balanced fer mostly every encounter. Not one of them specialized twists that run arround with AC of 50+ and can't hit anything because they are swashing in improved combat expertice not wanting hits onhimself. etc..

With this build ya basically have every skill open fer ya, witch is never a bad thing, your combat abilities are, well, close too that of a warrior, and ya can sneak, feint, and dodge like a swashbukler. only more deadly.

The ranger gives you the nessesairy boosts too survival and most out door skills a rogue lack, like tracing incase you wish vengance against a sod that angered you. better track him down and stab him few times too show who's the boss.

The rogue, needless too say, gices you the touch of damage that is so loved by this class. lots od d6 is super fun too roll in times of combat.
Allso the rogue gives a very varied aspect of skills selectable, can go skunk ranger, or a social twit is ya want :) it's like the ultimate package of everything melee, ranged, damage pack :)

hope ya enjoy this and that ye'll do try it some day. ;)

Personally, I like thief-acrobat. Extra dodge to AC, accelerated tumbling and balance for free, standing from prone as a free action, slow fall, improved evasion, skill mastery, defensive roll. Sure, they have their drawbacks (bab, saves, hp as a rogue, no sneak attack, and only 6 skill points a level) but these are some nice benefits for a rogue on the move.

If you can use nonstandard prestige classes you might check out my post on the Small weapons master - a 10 levl prestige class for rogues - that actually allows them to keep using skill points to improve open locks and disable devices! :D Like the original poster I was looking for something for some characters that allowed them to become unique types without loosing those two essential skills. That is my major complaint with most other "rogue" prestige classes I've seen is that you loose these skills. In the few that do retain them (Dungeon Delver, Nightsong Infiltrator you are forced into such a specialized role that it si not a generally useful prestige class. Others basically force into being a low rent fighter with a sneak attack capibility as a left over. TO me at least, sneak attacks like criticals are not something you count on day in and day out as a fighter; yes you will get them and when you do they can be huge but you can't expect them like you can the effects of different weapons and armour. So turning a rogue into a fighter is not a good transition - both game mechanic wise and role pplay wise.
