| blackfalcon06-11-07, 02:10 AM | what are all the classes affiliated with thay and what book did they appear in first? |
| Dark Wizard06-11-07, 02:42 AM | Off the top of my head: Red Wizard (FRCS 3e, DMG 3.5e) Thayan Knight (Lords of Darkness 3e, Complete Warrior 3.5e) Black Flame Zealot (Unapproachable East, Complete Divine) Thayan Slaver (Unapproachable East) Thayan Gladiator (Champions of Ruin) You could practically have a whole party from Thay with a unique prestige class for each character. Thay is almost as bad as Pelor when it comes to number of PrCs. |
| blackfalcon06-11-07, 09:50 AM | thats kinda what i'm shooting for. but your right. i wonder what kinda class they'll come up with next |
| Pystian06-11-07, 09:56 AM | It'sn't exactly a Thay-only PrC, but I'll bet Thay has a disproportionate number of Thralls of Eltab (from Champions of Evil). |
| MarkusTay6306-11-07, 11:54 AM | I'm pretty sure Kossuth keeps any fiendish cults to a minimum in Thay. ;) thats kinda what i'm shooting for. but your right. i wonder what kinda class they'll come up with nextPaladin of Yeenoghu for the Gnollish military? :D The Talontar Blightlord (UnE) would probably be a Thayan version of the Druid, as well. |
| Borris06-11-07, 09:09 PM | Talontar Blightlords are almost exclusively found in the western half of the Rawlinswood, between the Great dale, Damara and Impiltur. They've been solowly expanding their area of control, but they still have the Great Dale and Thesk between them and Thay. While Talona is one the most worshipped deities in Thay, I doubt the blightlord tradition has managed to reach that nation. Besides, what fun is corrupting forests in a nation that barely has any? |
| GothicDan06-11-07, 09:31 PM | The one class that I wanted to see converted into a PrC, and would have made more sense than most, is the Thayan Griffonrider. It makes very good sense as a PrC thematically. It's made up of people who are first trained as full Red Wizards (Read: 5 Wizard or whatever, at least 1 RW), and who then learn to ride griffons while using those spellcasting skills. It's more likely than a lot of other PrCs that I think should be represented as Substitution Levels or in the way 2E did kits. There's a clearer delineation of learning separate but related tasks during two different time intervals. The fact that we have aerial combatants for two other organizations that had very little place in actual lore (Aglarondan Griffonrider and Zhentarim Sky Mage) compared to the Griffon Legion of Thay (I think consisting of about 300 Red Wizards?) makes me sort of sad. In my work with Aryvandaar, I've been using a similar idea for a PrC: spellcasters on flying mounts (in particular dragons, giant eagles, or griffons for the Aryvandaari Gold Elves) who use their mobility and range to their greatest advantage. It will have evolved from the canon representation of Evermeet's Windriders, which were first founded in pre-Sundered Aryvandaar. But since the Windriders' focus is on aerial melee and the like, this, I think, is worthy of a separate PrC that represents aerial magical dominance. Of course, they'll have the use of bows and light lances for emergencies. For the Moon Elven aerial mounts, usually on pegasi or dragons, I'm thinking something along the lines of an aerial Arcane Archer PrC, also with proficiency in the light lance. .... That was probably a somewhat nontopical leak-over that should have gone on the Elven Netbook thread, but I've been thinking and researching Aryvandaar for 2 days straight, in betweem E&M Fields, atomic physics, wave functions, and relativity. |
| ShadezofDis06-12-07, 09:59 AM | I'm pretty sure Kossuth keeps any fiendish cults to a minimum in Thay. ;) But Kossuth is in the Elemental Plane of Fire (I'm 99% sure anyhow, unless I missed some lore that states he's somewhere else) and Eltab is right next door. Eltab also has quite the bone to pick with the Thayans. :) I agree that Kossuth would try to keep such elements out and he certainly has the strongest church in Thay (again, I'm 99% sure) but I would be quite disappointed if Eltab couldn't manage a decent number of operatives. It's actually quite an interesting dynamic, especially when you consider that Eltab is in Nar, where there are a large (relatively anyhow) number of Abyssal Cysts (which I would say he's actively trying to enlarge and I would also allow him to tap into some of his planar power when operating inside an Abyssal Cyst. . . though that all is mutable since I haven't read much about Abyssal Cysts). We've got Eltab, with a HUGE hate on for the Red Wizards, in Nar looking to expand his power and looking for some payback. We've got the Red Wizards, who haven't forgotten about Eltab. And we've got the church of Kossuth, who want to keep their "top dog" status in Thay. Bad guy vs Bad guys. I'm a big fan of those dynamics. PCs "So. . . ummm. . . who do we side with? A demon lord or red wizards and an evil elemental lord's church?" :D Paladin of Yeenoghu for the Gnollish military? :D :P The Talontar Blightlord (UnE) would probably be a Thayan version of the Druid, as well. Also Gnoll druids would work. Yeenoghu isn't a great god for them though (I mean, sure he's all about hunting but he isn't really all about nature AFAIU) but I like the idea of Gnoll or Flind druids of Malar. :) |

Thay is actually famous for its Orange Groves, amongst other agrarian endeavors. If the Blightlords did show up in Thay, who's to say they wouldn't work against orchids and farmland? It's actually quite an interesting dynamic, especially when you consider that Eltab is in Nar, where there are a large (relatively anyhow) number of Abyssal Cysts (which I would say he's actively trying to enlarge and I would also allow him to tap into some of his planar power when operating inside an Abyssal Cyst. . . though that all is mutable since I haven't read much about Abyssal Cysts). The Blightlords would not be welcome in Thay because the Zulkirs depend quite a bit on their agricultural products to both feed their people and for use when trading with other nations. This would also be an interesting dynamic, with a party having to take on the 'Defilers' in order to help preserve the Thayan foodsource, and thereby indirectly aiding the Zulkirs. Wheels within wheels... Also Gnoll druids would work. Wheels within wheels... Good stuff, I'm a big fan of wheels within wheels within.... The only unfortunate part is I don't get to tell my players and I have a hard time developing story that sheds light into the various plots I have going on, well, that shed light on them without revealing them outright. That would work, but I would make them Druids of Gorellik instead, their original god before Yeenooghu stole many of his worshippers. Oh, good call. I'd not thought about Gorellik. . . haven't read about him in a while either and that was only a little bit to begin with (gnolls are one of the "driving forces" in the game I'm running right now). . . I'll have to revisit him to see if there's anything I might want to use. |
