| Mad Mage03-08-07, 04:04 PM | Can anyone offer me some information on what psionic races are acceptable for the forgotten realms? dromites? xephs? elans? etc. Thanks! Thri-Kreen are detailed in Shining South, if I'm not mistaken. Player's Guide to Faerun does mention that the Githzerai have a monastery near the Red Knight's area of influence in Warrior's Rest. Githiyanki should also exist in the Realms, although I'm not sure where other than the Astral Plane, and how deeply they've influenced Faerunian history. Of all the races depicted in the Expanded Psionics Handbook that definitely exist in Faerun, the one that's the most prominent is none other than the Duergar. In fact, the Duergar of the realms do have a goddess of psionics (along with the portfolio of enslavement, war, and conquerers) that they worship named Deep Duerra, though she doesn't get as much worship as Laduger does. |
| Fabius Maximus03-08-07, 04:43 PM | The Githyanki have a illithid hunting outpost in the Underdark in the area of Deep Shanatar. |
| Old Sage03-08-07, 07:14 PM | Githyanki do exist in the Realms, thanks to a number of specific references. The Ol' Grey Box referenced a githyanki corpse turn up in the Dalelands, indicative perhaps of a githyanki presence nearby. A more solid reference however, can be found in Drizzt Do'Urden's Guide to the Underdark, which notes a githyanki enclave in the old dwarven sub-realm of Torglor - once part of Deep Shanatar. Another reference... githyanki appear in the final Marco Volo adventure, serving the intelligent artifact "The Dragonking's Eye". Githyanki are especially noted as not being welcome in the Bazaar of Menzoberranzan, which could suggest they've appeared there to some degree. Githyanki are noted also in Underdark, pg. 135, in 1250 DR during a githyanki attack on Ch'Chitl. And lastly, it's not as "official", though githyanki were brought into "The North" during an old DUNGEON adventure, which detailed the discovery of a silver sword and the consequences that eventuated. |
| Lord Karsus03-08-07, 11:25 PM | -And, of course, there are the Illithid. |
| lavekkia03-09-07, 06:35 AM | Tri - kreen should roam in great tribes on the plains of Anchrome (I don't remember if it's canon or only hinted on spelljammer.org) The other races (half -giants, dromites xephs, elans) have received no specific mention but it's easy to imagine some corner of the world where to place them. Elans are similar in appearance to humans and could pass for strange ones. So it's entirely possible that your character neighboor is one of them... |
| Iakhovas03-10-07, 11:57 AM | Don't forget humans! :P |
| Razz03-13-07, 03:51 PM | I have it where Xephs live in the lands of Ulgarth and beyond, living deep within the Wu Pi Te Shao Mountains. The Dromites are from Maztica, the northern portion where they say "bug people" live in the deserts. The Maenads live along the Dragon Coast and Lake of Steam coastlines in secluded villages. They're descendants of the Jhaamdathan Empire, protected by the last vestiges of power from the psionic god Auppenser. Their roiling emotions stems from the deity's will to struggle and stay alive, if barely. Their crystalline skin is a side-effect of Auppenser's blessing and power at keeping them alive during the tidal waves. |
| Treymordin03-13-07, 06:14 PM | The beauty of the races in EPH is that you can add them to most any campaign world that has psionic creatures. |
| balfor03-14-07, 08:53 AM | Razz, thanks for the post. that was really helpful. |
| The_Shaman03-14-07, 09:01 AM | Thri-Kreen are somewhat common in the South, and were afaik mentioned in Shining South. Mind you, duergar would probably be the most common race. |
| Old Sage03-14-07, 10:07 AM | Thri-kreen tend to inhabit most other savanna-like regions around the Realms, as noted most recently in 3e Shining South. There are also thri-kreen in the Mindulgulph Mercenary Company which operates in the region, as noted in Gold & Glory. Thri-Kreen are also featured in the write-up for the Rushing Hills in the Vilhon Reach tome. |
