My DM says he won't allow psionic characters in his FR setting because "as worlds go, Faerun is psionically dry for the most part" so because he hasn't read alot about psionics in the world I'm not allowed to play any is this true?
he feels a psion in faerun would be to powerful because there isn't much to stop onethe only story i remember with a psichic in it is the drow from the series with drizzt in it.

If your DM is still open for discussion, point him to page 172 of the Player's Guide to Faerūn. 3.5 brought a change to how psionics are handled in FR.

Psionics have a tradition in the realms. It's a small tradition, but it's there nonetheless. Heck, even Elminster had a level or three in psionicist (2e psionic class) back in the day.

You're probably thinking of the psionicists of house Oblodra in Menzoberranzan.

*shrugs* Its your DM's decision whether or not to allow it. If hes made up his mind, we're not likely to change it.

Hes right in a way that Faerūn is psionics-light - its a rare talent in the Realms - but certainly it is a part of the Realms. Descendants of the lost Human kingdom of Jhaamdath, which was a Psiocracy, would possess it. The Drow house Oblodra, as you noted, was known to be psionic. One novel character, Magadon, seems to have obtained his psychic powers because of his infernal heritage (he is the son of Mephistopheles). And of course it can rarely develop in those with no particular psionic heritage, plus there are some races (Illithids, Duergar, etc) which are naturally psionic and exist in the Realms.

So yes, theres a psionics in the Realms, and yes, it is rare. Perhaps less rare than your DM thinks, perhaps not. But like I said, its his decision to begin with - posting here isn't necessarily going to change his mind.

we don't currently have the 3.5 we are using a mix 3.5 core rule books and
3.0 FR but he may be open if he knows that the info he is going off of is outdated,.... maybe.;)

that's the one. He has read that entire series more than i have and owns all the books but surprisingly doesn't remember that guy and thinks that i am wrong. they made a point in the book about the guys ability to teleport into a room that was protected by some sort of orb i believe that prevented magic or something in that rogues room in Luskan.

I'm not looking to change his mind per se. just find out how right he is or isn't he and I like to go round and round about our knowledge of certain things in the game but i can't totally dis agree with him unless I have some ammo as well. lol

Well, Zevox has already mentioned Jhaamdath, an ancient human empire (located in modern Vilhon Reach and Chondath) ruled by psions and psychic warriors. It's described in Lost Empires of Faerūn. You can find some LEoF enhancements (http://www.candlekeep.com/library/articles/leof_main.htm) over at the Candlekeep.

LEoF also introduces Auppenser, a slumbering deity of psionics (basically, his portfolio is meditation, enlightment, or somesuch), who was primarily worshipped in Jhaamdath, and who went into slumber after most of Jhaamdath population (and thus his followers) died from the tidal wave created by wild (or wood, always get them mixed up) elven high mages.

Well, it worked like that back in 2e, but now psionics and magic are fully transparent to each other, and anything that blocks magic also blocks psionics. There's an optional rule in the Expanded Psionics Handbook for making magic and psionics differen, but, IMO, it's more trouble than it's worth.
