I am playing a Aasimar Character right now with a Racial Level Adjustment +1.
Going by my understanding the needed EXP would look like.....

2nd- 3,000
3rd- 6,000
4th- 10,000
5th- 15,000
6th- 21,000
7th- 28,000
8th- 36,000
9th- 45,000
10th- 55,000
11th- 66,000
12th- 78,000
13th- 91,000
14th- 105,000
15th- 120,000
16th- 136,000
17th- 153,000
18th- 171,000
19th- 190,000
20th- 210,000

Now I think that is all right and I can agree with that but the campaign that I am in right now when we distribute EXP some people are getting a little more because they are 1 level lower then some. I feel like I am getting Penalized twice because I am having to get more EXP to go up my next level but I am also getting less EXP becauce I am getting EXP as my Adjusted class level for my race. Right now I am Character level 6 but having to get EXP of a 7th level Character and also getting EXP gain as if I was a 7th level Character.

My question is should it be this way or am I looking at it wrong. I feel I should be getting EXP gain as my character Level not my Adjusted character level?

Your level-by-XP table is concurrent with the rules.
You ARE penalized twice, in a way, which is why I don't like the current LA rules. Still, they are the rules.
You shouldn't think about an Aasimar Paladin-1, for example, as a 1st level character. Think about him as a 2nd level character. You may have played in a group in which everybody was a different level. At the end of each session, everybody got a different XP award, as well as needing different amounts of XP to gain a new level. You start ahead of the others; while they still play 1st level chars, you're already playing a 2nd level char. That's really all there is to it.

In my experience, the additional stuff an Aasimar gets is good. It will save your bacon a couple of times, and will just come in handy a lot of other times. Not being subject to "... Person" spells is more important than it sounds; the elemental resistances are good and grow to be more and more useful over time: you can basically ignore effects such as cold auras, frost or shock weapons etc.; darkvision is always a good thing; the ability score modifiers are nice indeed; and even the light spell-like ability can be very useful.
Also, in my experience, this Aasimar stuff doesn't really stand for a whole level of experience. It's good - but not quite good enough to justify the XP lost. The same holds true even more with Genasi (except Air Genasi, possibly). Planetouched should be penalized in a slighter way, like getting 5% off XP earned or something like that.

Think about it, and then play a Human! Best bang for your buck in every regard! ;)

once you gain your first level ( level 1 for level adjusted characters in the relams is 1,000 exp.) you should be getting normal exp. because paladin is the favored class of the aasimar. sounds like your d.m. is short changing you.
also remember you can use monster feats located in SAVAGE SPECIES AND THE BACK OF THE MONSTER MANUALS!!!!

You should check out the unearthed arcana. There is a variant, if your dm will allow it, that helps with la. Someone correct me if I'm wrong but at a certain point you can buy back the la. Say you level to 6th. So you are technically a lvl 7 character. Using this variant you would lose a lvl at this point as soon as you would hit 6th lvl just drop your exp down to the minimum to qualify for 5th lvl. That way you are now behind a lvl (if all your party was the same lvl) but of course it is made up for already. If you are willing to always have your character be one lvl behind everyone else it's very worth it imo.
