Bonzai 08-13-07, 12:39 PM	Ok, I've heard two interpretations of this, and I would like to hear what the official ruling is. When you take your first level of Red Wizard, you have to pick another 1-2 schools to give up as a specialist. When that happens, which of these occure; A. You are unable to cast any spells you had previously learned of that school, and are no longer able to use items with spells of those schools. or B. You are able to keep the spells that you had previously learned, but no new spells of that school, nor items can be learned or used. Oddly enough, this has never come up in game till now, so any help would be appreciated.
MarkHall 08-13-07, 08:18 PM	B, to the best of my understanding. Page 193 & 194 of the DMG bears this out ("He can still use the prohibited spells he knew prior to becoming a Red Wizard, including using items that are activated by spell completion or spell trigger.")
Red_Wizard 08-14-07, 08:50 AM	Ok, two notes here quickly. First, you only need pick ONE other prohibited school when adopting the RW prestige class. The confusion there stems from them making a direct copy/paste from the FRCS, and not bothering to edit the script after changing the specialist PrC rules. Secondly, the text does state clearly that you continue to be able to use all spells, and spell activation items you had/ knew prior to gaining the new prohibited school. All it does is prevent you from learning new spells from that school. Hence why a number of Red Wizards wait until 10th level at least to adopt the PrC.
Karsus the Mad 08-14-07, 09:39 AM	If you knew the spells (ie: they're in your spellbook) before taking a level in red wizard, you still can prepare and cast them as normal. You simply can't learn any more.
