Reth Dekala in Faerun [Archive] - Wizards Community

04-01-07, 02:12 PM I'm currently running a realms campaign and one of my PC's is a swordsage base class from the Tomb of Battle: Book of 9 swords. While I was reading the book, I came across a race known as the Reth Dekala. They're floating torsos with a greenish flaming lower half and they hover. Basically they're an ancient race that long ago sold their souls to an arch-devil for awesome power to destroy everyone else in their path. After doing quite well for themselves, the Devil cashed in on their agreement and took most of their race to the abyss to fight for him. Later on they revolted against him and he cursed them (hence the greenish flames) to keep up they're oath to destory all their reth ancestors.

My question is how can this be converted or somehow used in the Forgotten Realms setting. I was thinking along the lines of some ancient Netherese people who sold their souls to an arch-devil in place of awesome sorcerery, thus creating animosity between some of the earliest existing Netherese Enclaves. Let me know what you think and/or have any other or better ideas. Thanks!

04-01-07, 05:48 PM I think ancient Jaamdath would be a better fit. It had a rather martialistic society and conquered a lot of land by force. Make the guys not the remnants of a whole race, but rather relicts of a jaamdathian (psychic) warrior society who sold their souls to some fiend.

04-02-07, 03:13 AM floating torso with flames just scream Djinn... so Calimshan where another option, make them a Cursed Djinn Clan that has an neverending hatred for other Djinns/Efreets

Unfortunatly, there isn't much to be found about Jaamdath. Tiny bits are in Empires of the Shining Sea and Lost Empires of Faerūn, and there is additional (but not official) material written by Ed Bonny here (http://candlekeep.com/library/articles/leof_main.htm).

04-02-07, 04:24 PM Ah, thanks Maximus. The Djinn is also another good idea and considering that the party right now is in the western heartlands might make it more plausable. Thanks for the ideas!

04-08-07, 11:41 AM You could also do ancient Narfell. They summoned demons and were very martially inclined.
