So gearing up to start a FR campaign and I mention to the GM that I'm looking at the Shadow Dancer prestige class. He told me that in one of the books (he couldn't remember which) that it was mentioned that many people believe all Shadow Dancers are some how associated with the Shadow Weave, not that they all are just that people think they are.

Does anyone know what book that's in? I don't ever recall reading it but I can't say I've been keeping up with FR, I'd like to read it before the game just so I have a heads up if there are specific areas where everyone thinks that and I I show I'm a SD I'll get torched.

Thanks in advance.

I have never heard of such a thing myself.

-There is no official connection between Shadowdancers and the Shadow Weave. Shadowdancers have connections to the Plane of Shadows, but not the Shadow Weave. Of course, Shadowdancers can take the Shadow Weave feat, and then all that is fixed.

There are many different 'types' of powers of 'shadow'. Shadowdancers are not involved with the Shadow Weave or Shadow Magic (on a game mechanics wise). But Tome of Magic would have you believe every shadow is connected to the Plane of Shadow, Plane of Shadow and 'Shadow Magic' are connected, and further in FR, Plane of Shadow connected to the Shadow Weave (or rather vice-versa), and so the cycle goes on... :embarrass

But realistically, tell your DM, no. Has nothing to do with the SW.

Hmmm, interesting. Thank you, now I'm off to go read the Tome of Magic, so I can maybe understand wtf he was talkign about.

-That probably might confuse you even more. ;)

Indeed. Although it does beg the question as to whether or not a shadow caster or noctumancer could and/or would benefit from the Shadow Weave and it's associated feats. Of course, that is a question for another thread.:incog:

Plane Of Shadow, Shadow Weave, Shadow Magic (ToM), Shadow Sun (ToB), and Shadow Dancers, whew.

They're only connected thematically, and only if you and the DM want to.

Then there is the psuedo-shadow, the demi-shadow plane, the plane of Elemental shadow, the Shadowlands, the Shadoworld, Shadow boxing (I think it's a Monk Feat), Shadow-runners, etc, etc....

Not to mention the recent disturbing trend that's all the rage - wearing Shades!

Why anyone would want to walk around with a pair of Arch-wizards strapped to their face is beyond me.

-Luckily, the Demiplane of Shadows and the Plane of Shadow are one and the same (I'm mostly sure). The DoS was renamed the PoS somewhere along the line. So, there's one less (or one more, depending on the way you look at it) way to be confused.

Shar is worshipped by many shadowdancers. Another link to a relation between the hide in plain sight ability and the shadowweave...

Yep.
