The Paladin used detect evil on her and she registered as evil due to the leric aura bit in the PHB. He didn't like here much but she was 8 levels higher than the party at the time (they were level 2). They knew she could cast flamestrike. Anyway they had a mutual enmemy in Cyrics church and she helped them out and since she was LN she kept the deal they made. Over the next few adventures they saw her occasionally and even talked about religeous beliefs. They thought she was evil but it turned out she had rather simialr view to the Paladin just a bit more extreme. They learnt some details of her backgound and she offered the PCs a place in Banes chusrch if they would defect from Lathendars church (PCs also had a Cleric of Lathendar). Strangly enough the Banite and Paladin actually seemed to enjoy each other company for the most part. Lotsa diplonmacy checks and a simialr lawful martial aspect seemed to tie them togather. Anyway the PCs reached level 8 and they had to work togather once again with the Banite Cleric and ended up on the Isle of Dread with her to defeat some Banite heretics she was hunting. The other PCs didn't really like the Banite because she was a Banite and usually the Paladin and her had to stan guard with her as no one trsted her to do it by herself or wanted to stand guard with her. Long story short the Paladin and Banite slept in the same bedroll (no sex BTW) and one successful mission and a few more diplomacy checks they managed to wean the Banite away form her faith (she was becoming disenchanted with it anyway) and I changed her alignment to LG and she converted to Lathendar Her and the Paladin are now involved although they are discreet about it- the party at 1st just thought they were friends but one of them tailed the Paladin back to their apartment they set up in Waterdeep togather. Anyway how hard do you think it should be to corrupt/reddem a Cl;eric of an opposing god. This storyline took several session, a bit of roleplaying and more than a few diplomacy checks and the Paladin had 20 charisma as well which helped. LN Cleric, evil god and she had doubts about her faith. |

You must spend at least one hour each day talking with the cleric of Bane, showing her the benefits she'd get by turning to a life of good. Each day, you make a Diplomacy check opposed to the cleric of Bane's Will save (with a -2 penalty since she's neutral) plus her character level. If she already has doubts about her faith, that probably counts as a circumstance modifier on your Diplomacy check (I'd say +2 or +4). If she fails seven saves in a row, her alignment permanently changes from LN to LG. |

The Paladin managed to convince her to change oin other ways- saved here life a few times, found out she had a child and helped the child etc. LN-LG isn't an extreme alignment change anyway. |

The use in the SRD mentions that it is not necessary for an alignment change, and serves to justify changing alignment "drastically, suddenly, and definitely." This is not the case here, as she stays LN and has been troubled in her beliefs for quite a while. Alignments can change, and a cleric does not afaik need to get atonement to abandon a church - just to become a full cleric of another one. So she is free to leave - but I don't think Bane will leave her so easily. I don't like the cult, but the cult likes me. I don't like the cult, the cult, the cult... |
