In explanation, I lost my PHB. Yeah.

So, what would a Sorceror multiclassing as a Wizard have for abilities? We know that if a Wizard has an epiphany and multiclasses all he gains is the ability to use any type of magical item. One my players would like to do this.

You just get the abilities of both classes... so, two casting progressions. See http://www.d20srd.org/srd/classes/sorcererWizard.htm

From a character optimization standpoint, a Wiz/Sorc is a horrible combination due to a number of different reasons (primarily being caster level issues, slower access to higher level spells, multiple attribute dependency, etc.).

With some longterm strategic planning, you could get your build prefix to be structured to eventually go into the Ultimate Magus PrC, but the Wiz/Sorc baseline is still sub-optimal to say, Wiz/Beguiler or other combinations

This guy's PC is already a Sorceror. That's why it's different from a Wizard/Sorceror. It's a Sorceror/Wizard. So, no, I can't take the advice I want from that last post and give it to the player.

Mechanically speaking, a sorceror/wizard is exactly the same as a wizard/sorceror. The only notable point would be that levels in both classes stack for the purpose of determining a familiar's abilities.

I'm not really sure what's you're looking for. And what are you saying about multiclassing wizards having the ability to use any type of magical item? I've never heard of such a thing before.

I think s/he might be talking about how if a specialist wizard multiclasses as a sorcerer, s/he effectively overcomes the issues with specialist wizards and certain magic items.

For example, if you give up the school of necromany, you can't use scrolls of necromancy spells. Unless, that is, you also have levels of sorcerer.

I'd also recommend looking at the Ultimate Magus PrC in Complete Mage. A Sorcerer/Wizard is pretty useless without it.

How many times do I have to say, I'm a guy. I've even seen you before in a thread that discussed my gender.

Secondly, that's correct. I run Specialist wizards instead of *normal* ones.

Thirdly, thank you. The only problem is I don't have that book. Could'ju please tell me the stats (like in a PM or something).

If someone times s/he, it means that the writer isn't aware of another's gender. I don't think the person is doing it to be difficult. I know I certainly don't remember (nor care about) the majority of tghe genders of people on these boards.

Although if anyone is a balanced, intelligent gay guy, pleased to be hitting me up. ;)

Sorcerer multiclassing as a Wizard then taking a few Ultimate Magus levels would be rather good for a Halruaan character, perhaps. Halruaa is a high-magical place which tends to hate the powers of Sorcery somewhat, so the stigma of someone's Sorcery leading to them midlly changing profession wouldn't be unheard of. (Keeps their sorcery a secret, and can sometimes earn the ire of Magehounds, leading to quite a bit of character development.)

Whether or not it's an optimal build is not my problem. But I might mention that - as a minor house rule - I'd allow the Ultimate Magus full spellcaster progression from both arcane classes. At the end of the day, though, give me a Wizard to play and I'll be happy enough.

I'd say the ability to actually get some use out of metamagic might be a good gain for a sorcerer multiclassing as a wizard. Would certainly provide for a wider selection of spells, and be really handy for those utility spells that aren't all that appealing to a sorcerer. As for actual benefits, you get the spellbooks ability, all the cantrips, several (3+Int mod) 1st level spells, the Scribe Scroll item creation feat and of course the bonus feats at 5th, 10th, 15th, and 20th levels...not to mention specialist benefits if you go that route. Downside is definitely that +0 for everything except the +2 to will saves, and the 3/1 spells per day. Hope that's what you were looking for.

I think only the familiar would stack, sorry... UM is a good idea given the circumstances, perhaps with a little adaptation.

Ultimate Magus is in Complete Mage. It is only like $30.

Thanks. And about the Halruua thing. Yeah. Almost. We're going through Rasheman, and he's having a hard time (char. is male).
