I originally posted this on the psi board in general D&D.

A "human" Illithid body tamer
Take a wild talented human use 4 levels of fighter for the feats
Slap on the Illithid Heritage feat, Illithid skin, Illithid grapple x2:

Example:
Human Fighter
1: Wild Talent
1: Illithid Heritage
1: Great Fortitude
2: Power attack
3: Illithid Grapple
4: Weapon focus [tenticle]
6: Illithid Grapple
6: Weapon Specialist [tenticle]
then go with Illithid Body Tamer for 10 levels
that could be interesting and actually make it so PC could play a body tamer.

Personally I really dislike the whole "Illithid Heritage" concept.

For one, do not forget that in order to have an Illithid heritage one must have at least a Half-Illithid in their blood-line. We all know that humans who undergo ceremorphosis become full Illithids with the few exceptions of when it partially fails, which results in a human body with an illithid's brain, personality and digestive tract. Now those beings are usually sent to the surface as spies since they easily blend in with humans (besides the need to consume brains which they have to do by cutting open heads since they don't have the tentacles).

The only other way to have a Half-Illithid would be through the magical tampering with the reproductive process of a human...don't forget, Illithids are hermaphroditic creatures and spawn larvae instead of mating.

Now using the latter variation means that the character is not human, but Half-Illithid and starts off with tentacles...so that pretty much eliminates it from the concept of being human...in addition I don't know of any (or many) humans who would tolerate such an abomination among them.

This leaves us with the first option...highly unlikely (especially considering the hunger for brains)...but let's say that being (it's an aberration) actually mates with a human female and lets her live long enough to give birth to the child. This would work for your concept though considering the Illithid Heritage feat would mean that the character is an aberration and not human...

Now even if you can use the human's Quick to Master feat (which is generally only available with the second method of becoming a Half-Illithid) you would need to drop either Wild Talent (Magic) or Great Fortitude (Skill) at first level since neither of them are a Combat feat.

Not sure what the ECL would be...since an Illithid is 15, my guess would be around an 8.

Hey...I could be wrong about all of that...especially considering that I've never allowed, much less considered allowing, an Illithid PC. MHO, if you really want/need overpowered characters like that...take a look at Rifts (which yes, I do like, DM and play in addition to 3.xE).

The Illithid Heritage feat doesn't make them an abberation, they retain their original type and sub type and that is the basis for this admitt. In case you don't know CPsi pg 62 is where the feat can be found. This makes them Illithidkin a prereq for the Illithid Body Tamer PrC found in Underdark. Wild talent [2 power points] give the human the necessary 1 power point for the Illithid Heritage feat. Great Fortitude is also required for IBT.

[i]Note: change first Illithid Grapple w/ Illithid Skin and Weapon Spec w/ Illithid Grapple.

The CR would be equal to level as per the rules in the DMG regarding class levels.

My motivation for making this build was that fact that its a most likely rarely, if ever, used PrC and would add an interesting pro/antagonist without being an Illithid, rather then thinking of how it's a powergamers dream, think of the possible roleplaying, storytelling, and intrigue you as the DM can make with such an NPC BBEG bodyguard.
