The PrCs you most want to see? [Archive] - Wizards Community

After seeing some recent discussions* a thought occurred to me that not only does the mega-adventure trilogy cut out extensive Realmslore from more traditional regional or organizational sourcebooks, they usually also slow the release new mechanics material on the Realms. As a fan of good PrCs, this only adds to my dislike of the over focus on adventures. It just seems a long time since I've recalled feeling excited about reviewing a well made Realms PrC.

I would like to see more PrCs for the various religions. Especially since it seems FR is falling into the same hole that core is experiencing - too much focus on the more typical religions of the Realms, the big 'monolithic' ones. For instance, there are a lot of Pelor PrCs in core books, likewise Lathander gets lots of coverage in FR. Amaunator, a supposedly dead deity, gets more coverage than many of the more popular deities in the Realms. Or Drow deity PrCs, Lolth gets a lot, despite encounters in a more standard Realms game rarely coming up against followers of Lolth or the rarity of PCs being Lolthites.

Personally I've always wanted PrCs for Helm and Torm. Here are two seemingly active deities that probably see a lot of PC use because they're good affiliated* with portfolios that suite the adventuring lifestyle (*most games are probably traditional heroic campaigns, but they could still be used for antagonists for an evil aligned game also) . However, I don't recall much specific material released for them. Instead we get some generic, completely uninspiring holy champion stuff and Heironious' left overs (his PrCs don't fit him all that well most of the time anyway, let alone two different Realms deities). I'm holding out for some Helmite or Tormish PrCs eventually.

What are the Realms based PrCs you most want to see official publication?

[*This was actually fueled in part by discussions on Complete Champion at the general forums (the merits of PrC specificity to Greyhawk in a core book) and recent threads here about mechanics supporting lore. Prestige classes were supposed to be special, a translation of setting lore directly into game rules. WotC has struggled with the concept since the beginning. I think that has affected the use of PrCs in FR publications as well. I feel many of the PrCs found in Realms books are rather lackluster - not tied to lore, differing little from base classes, and/or ill suited for players (or villains even) - all the hallmarks of experimentation and small missteps inherent in a new system.

More recently, some of the more notable PrCs have even been co-opted by the Core into generic supplements, such as the iconic Red Wizard, the Archmage (perhaps one of the few entirely rules based, lore-less class-advance that actually works), and even the Thayan Knight (my, my Thay has been getting around in the multiverse). However, what's done is done. That those classes have become core means that they at least have some appeal, mechanical and lore-wise.

I would like to see PrCs appearing in FR supplements return to being setting base, provide interesting abilities (not necessarily powerful), and be useful to PCs (with some useable by DMs for opponents).]

-We don't want a Vremyonni PrC. ;)

And we want more racial PrCs, demi-humans don't have the quantity they deserve.

I'll second the demihuman one, especially demihuman cleric PrCs, as there's been little to none of those done in official products. After an exhaustive search for a PrC for a friend's Yondallan cleric, we ended up making one, cause there was nothing out there (other than a 5/10 casting one in Dragon).

Caster-based PrCs that grant less than 8/10 advancement will *rarely* hit the light of day unless they're super-Gish oriented.

I agree. I've always thought deity-specific PrCs were among the best as they often were very lore-based

I'm going to throw my vote out there for the Feywarden, the Knight of Evermeet, and an actual GOOD version of the Bladesinger (I mean a full BAB, 8 or 9/10 CL increase version).

Yeah, I'm hoping for some deity-based divine PrCs, demi-human included.

Of all the demi-humans, though, I'd say the Orc Pantheon deserves some of their own in particular. The other pantheons, definitely at well, though.

Hellrider of Elturel - it's just sounds so cool, they've got to make a PrC about it.

This, like many of the other important kits (is that what you call 'em?) from the Wizards & Rogues, Warriors & Priests and Demihumans Of The Realms series. Okay, most are dull, but some are good PrC or sub-level candidates.

Also more priest PrCs, or appropriate sub-levels for them, especially for those faiths that are rather 'meh' about the undead and would like something more flavourable and relevent instead of Turn Undead (like Turn Fire, or Turn Devil, or something different).
