Theory: star elves are eladrins [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-24-07, 02:48 PM The star elves have been in a dimension of their how creations for centuries. But what if the destrution of the weave makes their plane unstable? After all, in GHotR, it is said that only the greater gods can maintain their planar realms.

The star elves have enought time to cast a high magic spell that will save their plane. The spell as a unforseen result, not only did it change the star elves's plane into the Feywild, but the star elves changed into the eladrins.

The new eladrins/star elves realize that they must be more involved in the affaires of the realms, after all what goes on there can affect them. the time jump would create a realm where enought eladrins agents and settlements existe to make them an important race.

Of course this is a theory, and maybe the designer will retcon that star elves have always been eladrins.

Any input on this idea?

10-25-07, 07:16 AM I think this is a good way to make it rule. It introduces a new race in the new core rules and redirect the star elves affair that was quite polemical. A variant on this would be that the new Faerûnian-native star elves mix with gold or moon elves so they are more in the feeling of what the 'urban' (in contrast with 'forest') elves of the Realms were. But, as you said, the designers can make 'that was always this way'.

10-25-07, 03:04 PM Unfortunately, I think Star Elves are going to be one of the few that WON'T be considered Eladrin. IIRC, they are part of that initial group that came through the Fey portals. Only the guys that came from Tintageer are getting ret-conned.

But I could be wrong. ;)

10-26-07, 10:56 AM Ya'll sure that they'll keep the star elves? They seem a bit out of place in the realms. Besides no matter what they do, I'll never see elves as eladrin. Elves aren't celestials, eladrin are.

That's the thing, eladrins won't be celestials anymore, and probably never where in the new cosmology.

But if anybody has a theory on how eladrins, with their new background, will be incorporated in the realms, say it. I would love to have ideas and then see how much we where right/wrong.

They are feys in 4e. Like elves. I agree that this is weird and a retcon. But some designer must have said: Hey the Coure eladrin looks like a pixi. Hey guys, I have a great idea eladrins are feys... and they should be in the PHB... lile elves are fey too... Wow, I like it so much all DnD fans will too.

I think the whole problem here is that we are missing the back-story, which makes it sound ridiculous. I'm reserving my judgement on this, but can foresee a few possiblities that would work well if they use the 'alternate history' ploy.

For instance - if those Elves never left Tintageer, what would they have become? Perhaps whatever Elves were left in Fäerie when Tintageer sank evolved into the Eladrin we know, but now that things are different something in-between has emerged.

10-29-07, 03:14 PM Actually, I expect that sun elves, moon elves, and star elves would all fall into the description of "eladrin" for game stats, while wood elves and green elves would be "elves." But we're still going to call them sun elves, star elves, etc., for the most part. Nobody in Faerun would call those folks eladrins, they'd call them ar-tel-quessir, sun elves, or gold elves.

There you go, straight from the horses mouth so to speak!:D

I can't say yet if I dislike (to the point of hate) where the Realms are going to be honest. But on the other hand, not to allow that to sound optimistic, I'm grossly disillusioned about 4e in general on several fronts.

No vitriol from me since I already spent my share on 3e FR's cosmology debacle. For the moment I'll be firmly part of the deathly silent and disillusioned camp.

Also, the Elves are becoming Eladrin - I always new there was some sort of 'Celestial' connection there - look at old pics of the Devil (a fallen angel); pointy ears, slanted Eyes, haughty attitude (clearly visible in his face)...

All an Elf would need is a goatee and a couple of little Saytr horns and he's set. :P
