| forse05-09-07, 09:59 AM | Hi, I want to play a gnome "tinkerer". I'm looking through prestige classes, looking for something suitable. I've found the techsmith in faiths and pantheons to be suiting, but I'd also like to take a look at the gnome artificer in Magic of Faerun. However, I don't have that book, and it seems to be out of print. Can anyone describe the gnome artificer for me? What kind of class is it? And is there a way of getting the rules for it now? And finally, are there any other classes you would recommend for a tinkering/engineer/inventor kind of character? |
| Another Gnome05-09-07, 10:49 AM | Gnome Artificer is, in short, a class that duplicates spell effects with nonmagical technology (albeit with a caveat that certain more fantastic applications are supernatural). You could try finding a used copy of Magic of Faerūn if you're interested in something like that. I haven't played a gnome artificer myself, but the idea is pretty interesting, and simple enough to build your own PrC around it if you have no luck getting the book. |

| Mad Mage05-09-07, 12:29 PM | You might also want to take a look at these PrCs. 1) Effigy Master from Complete Arcane. A PrC focused on created automatons that imitate natural beings. 2) Maester from Complete Adventurer. A gnome craftsman that is deeply attuned with combining mechanical and magical prowess. He also tends to craft things quicker than normal. |
| TomCosta05-09-07, 04:34 PM | The Dragonlance books put out by Sovereign Press have both tinkerer gnomes and the tinkerer PrC to go with them. |
| jamesnero05-09-07, 06:24 PM | Tom beat em to it yes check out the dragonlance book called war of the lance specficaly page 32. If your going to get any DL stuff get it soon WoTC revoked the license so itll vanish end of this year :( enjoy :) |
| forse05-10-07, 06:09 AM | Thanks guys. But can I use Dragonlance classes in FR? Aren't I restricted to FR and generic DnD? How, exactly, does the tinker PrC work? And are there special stats for tinker gnomes? |
| Stigger05-10-07, 07:21 AM | If you can use them or not depends entirely on your DM... nothing else really much matters beyond that one. Can't really say about the other two though, not much into DL. |
