Are there active realms of titans in the realms or are they limited to Fearuns planes and what are they? I am about to introduce a dormant titan into my campaign but dont know what cultural differences there were among titans and what motivations they might have had to leave or colonize the realms.

Titans, as per 2e lore, are 'extinct' in the Realms. Their leader inadvertantly poisoned his brothers, and the Titans were forced to leave Toril because of it.

I don't think there is any 3e lore concerning them, aside from anything that may be in the GHotR.

Giants of all varieties are technically part of the Kingdom of Hartsvale, north of The Silver Marches, but in reality only the Firbolgs follow the human King (although last I checked, a Firbolg had married the Princess, so now they have a giant King - of course that changes very little concerning the other giant's attitudes).

This might all change in the 4e Realms, though.

But they have had an active period on Toril...

Poisoned? By what and whom? Was it some kind of curse or taint?

Suin, take a look at the "Last March of the Giants" sidebar on pg. 79 of Faiths & Avatars. That may provide you with some ideas.

Additionally, Demihuman Deities notes that Hanali is/was served by titans.

The 2e "Wardmist spell" is said to sometimes also be protected by undead titans -- VGtATM.

And in the now legendary 2nd web enhancement for City of Splendors: Waterdeep by Eric L. Boyd... we note that OLOTHONTOR’S LAIR resides behind an old stone mansion that was built for two brother titans.

Undead titans in wardmists. Amazing. Thanks Sage. In a flash of inspiration I accidently already dropped a wardmist like encounter on one of my players. He fled the scene after being cursed. I already gave them a ward token but they dont know they will need a command word! :)

As for the Titans Folly; how ironic that those supreme creatures met their end like that ^^

There's also a short story in Realms of Infamy about Lanaxis poisoning of his siblings. After the following fall of Ostoria (the now long-gone empire of giants), titans figured there was no worthy place left for them on Toril and left for another plane. In 2nd edition, it was said they'd left for Arborea. Now, I guess it could be either Arvandor or Brightwater (which were both on Arborea in 2nd edition), but I'd go with the now far-removed plane of Faerie myself.

Players Guide to Faerûn p.164 indicates that "Many titans are native to the plane of Warrior’s Rest, and they join in the great melee with delight." This is the only place it specifically mentions that they inhabit, so we can presume that Warrior's Rest contains the largest concentration of titans.

However, I think you would likely find some titans scattered across a variety of planar locations including Arvandor, especially in the environs of Hanali's Crystal Palace and around Lake Evergold. Doubtless there are some titans living in Jotunheim, the plane of the giant pantheon--although, I could imagine that they may not be entirely welcome on that plane. And of course there would probably be at least a few living in the planar metropolis of Brightwater, engaging in various interesting trades no doubt.

I think it would be an intriguing mystery if there were rumors of especially ancient titans imprisoned or entombed in the Supreme Throne for high crimes, perhaps Lanaxis for his betrayal of Othea, or the titan thane Omo and his ilk who slew the great Batrachi leader Zhoukoudien.

Expect some more stuff about Giants in 4e - they are doing some pretty cool stuff with them in the core rules, and I doubt the FR team is going to pass up on an opportunity like that.

They are somehow making them more 'elemental', and assigning them powers/abilities along those lines.

Huh. Giants have always been elementalish in D&D with the Storm, Cloud, Stone, etc Giants. Hmm.

What spell is needed to create a zombie giant (i.e. a base creature with more than 10 HD but still a zombie)?

Titans ruled over their giantkin during the high days of Ostaria. Othea was their queen? What is the best source on the Giant Kingdom age?

Othea was their Momma - she was a sl_t who slept with Vaprak on the sly and created the Ogres, and then shacked up with a sea-godling and gave birth to the Giantkin as well. After her hubby (Annam) caught wind of it, he layed the smack down of that god (Ulutiu) and threw him to the bottom of his own sea, which then froze over and became the Great Glacier.

2e's Giantcraft is what you are looking for.
Also, the 2e core book Monster Mythology has some pertinent information about the deities.

-On Hallowed Ground is an awesome book. It has some information on the Greek Titans, which may or may not be pertinent.

If I could get a copy somewhere... Greek Titans are just what Im looking for, as my campaign is set in Chessenta and I stole the sealed-away-Titan hook from the Redux thread.

-Ah, well, there you go. Getting a copy of that book is going to be pretty pesky, though. If you can, it's a goldmine of information.

There is some stuff on the Greater Titans in the planescape boxed set as well, in the Olympus entry, but Greater Titans are a little different then the Prime ones - they are nearly demi-gods, if I recall.

Its the 'regular' Titans that lived on Toril.

Of the Greek Titans in the FR:

* Set goes by the alias Typhon (P&P). (Typhon was not a Titan, but more of a step-sibling.)

* The small, long-lost Cormyrean kingdom of Orva once worshipped Kronus (merged with Chronos, the personification of time, and the both of them are now merged with Labelas Enoreth). (Four From Cormyr)

I have a theory that the Greek Titans and similar semi-divine monstrous beings were once worshipped (possibly by the ancient Turami people), until real gods came in and slew and imprisoned the lot of them, in an event similar to the Titanomachy. (Hmm, Tartarus... Tartyron...)

And, of course, we have mention of Poseidon and Dionysus in early Bloodstone lands stuff. Dionysius became a Saint of Ilmater, I think, and Posiedon was just dropped altogether.

Maybe the Posidon worshipped in old-time Damara was Typhon (Set), eh?

I was going to write an adventure once, where a group of PCs find an old holy text for a god no one heard of, and it turns out that Ao caused everyone to forget about Posedon after the ToT.

The mystery would be to find out why... I was going to call it The Poseidon Adventure (what else?) :P

Also, most of the Greek, along with the Finnish, Norse, etc pantheons were all mentioned in Desert of Desolation, which makes me think that the Imaskari were very much aware of all the gods, but for whatever reason they turned from them back in the mist-shrouded past. That means at some point, Ao would have given all Pantheons a chance to establish themselves on Toril, but most died out over time.

Yeah its very likely the Imaskari had incredible knowledge of gods from many pantheons and realities.

Seeing them as being as fickle, uncaring and jealous as any human being is probably what made them disregard the gods for worship, choosing other entities that were truer to their acclaimed nature, more constant in their behavior, and more representative of an aspect of reality rather than gods who are supposed to represent something specific but act according to whimsy when it fits them. (you expect demons to be evil, treacherous, and power hungry).

The ability of them affecting the gods with their power also leads to the possession of such knowledge, after all your spells don't affect gods unless you've done a lot of studying on both (spells and gods).

More info on Lannix and the Heartvale Kingdom can be found in the Twilight Giant trilogy (I highly recommend it).
