01-27-08, 02:01 PM I have someone who wants to play a Warforged in the Forgoten Realms campaign setting. I reasoned that since this race was not part of the campaign that perhaps he should think of a different character. He argued that dwarves or gnomes would more than likely have the resourses and technology needed to create warforged.

Any suggestions? I hate placing restrictions on my players, expecialy when I have the right sourcebook.

-Make the Warforged a Raumathari(sp) Battle Construct from the War between Ancient Narfell and Raumathar(sp). Where is your game going to be played in the Realms, because a Western Heartland Game would be kinda hard to justify a warforged in the area. Unless you have a Wacky wizard like one of the Harpells create one. Which now that I think about it would be great!!! Is the player a powergamer, or is the player a roleplayer? You can fit them in(warforged that is), just be creative. I hope this helps.:D Anybody else got any ideas, please no Eberron Bashing because this is his game and He can DM how he wants.

01-27-08, 02:15 PM If you are ok with introducing a warforged to your Realms and just need an excuse for him to be there, have him be from Eberron and he ended up portalling into the Realms as a teleport botch from his creator or something like that.

-That could work to. Yeah I am ok with that. A freed Gnomish construct is one possiblity. A wizard building a Golem, has an accident. His apprentice gets merged with it. A bunch of possible ways to add Warforge to the Realms. A purist probably wont like it, but hey its only a game to be played and have fun with. So go for it. MarkusTay63 has a place in the Realms here Warforged can come from. Check out the Utter-East Thread. Got to go be back later tonight. Have fun and see ya later!!!:D

01-27-08, 03:19 PM He could be from the Utter East, and be a creation of the Bloodforges, which create magical simulcrums (golems).

We did some rules in the Ue thread, saying that after a year and a day, one of these Bloodforged would achieve self-awareness, and then could be used as a PC.

Just substitute the Bloodforged for the warforged - they're basically the same thing. Your PC could be newly awakened.

Bloodforges, and their ability to create artificial life, are canon, BTW. :)

02-04-08, 10:28 AM I have the Warforged being created by a Gnomish follower of Gond in 1361 DR.

My explanation for their creation was that the magic of Incarnum was discovered by the gnome (with the help of Gond) and he used it to breathe sentience into the Warforged.

Certainly. IMO a new Gondsman prototype is the easiest way to introduce warforged in the Realms en masse - they are close enough to the regions most people play and there has already been something like them for a while... The other versions also work, though.

I don't really care for the idea of Warforged created by Gondsmen - I picture things more along the lines of Clockwork monsters produced by them (although there is a clockwork golem in canon somewhere).

The Warforged just seem more magical to me (like true golems), whereas the Gondsmen create using a more 'scientific' approach. If anything, Gondsmen would make excellent Effigy Masters from Complete Arcane.

Come to think of it, if you wanted a more human-looking Warforged, you could say the Gondsman applied Incarnum to an effigy.

-They are known as 'Gondmen', and are detailed in Faiths and Pantheons, with the Gondish PrC.

I just consider the gondsmen in F&P a step along the way. Lantan is not completely without its mages, and especially priests, who might come across the idea of an incarnate construct, and among all those gnomes there's bound to be someone crazy enough to come up with the principle of the warforged. They probably have a ton of variants anyway.

It probably means the warforged character won't be as common as they are in Eberron, but the Realms have seen stranger things than a thinking, individualistic golem.

02-23-08, 08:24 AM I'd stick with some sort of gondman creation variation since Gond himself had already created something very similar for Cyric and could pass along the secrets the same way he did that wonderful burning black powder of BOOM!
