i'm trying for a good wizard build, i'm not asking for an optimization or any thing but here it goes: Wizard 5, Harper Mage 5, Spell Guard of Silverymoon 5, Archmage 5.
I went with this because 1, it feels like a good fit 2, wanted to be connected to the harpers and with this i'm a shoe in and 3 it is chalked full of goodness.

one question, the prerequt for the harper mage is aleretness, if i have a familiar do i need to take the feat, i have written it in already but was wondering if i could skimp on it.
thanks

In the player's handbook it states that only when the familiar is in arms reach(wich is interpretable more or less) it gives the Wizard alertness. One thing is clear, you need to have the feat yourself to become a harper mage.

drats, lol.
got another question, under the discription of the spellguard, it has a componet of services? how rigorus would you follow this? "must spend 2 days out of a tenday" that is very restrictive for an adventure.

Awh, im not sure on that point.

You can become the Harper Mage, but you lose all the benefits from the class, when your familiar is out of range.

Pretty much. I'd simply go with the ioun stone that grants alertness.

Hmm Ioun stone, but wouldnt 1 Mordenkain put one in big trouble?

Since I'm immune to such things, I often forget about pesky cantrips like disjunction and anti-magic fields:embarrass
What's the odds of that happening? Other than DM fiat of course;)
Feats tho' are precious...wait, take the forlorn flaw. Lose your familiar in return for an additional feat. Use that additional feat for Alertness.

The flaws originated in Unearthed Arcana, though I've never seen the Forlorn flaw. It might be from something else, or I forgot about it because no one really takes familiar's seriously anyways.:D

It was in some dragon or dungeon issue. I don't have it, as I never bothered with magazines, but I see it around here from time to time. Forlorn causes you to lose your Familiar access in return for an additional feat at first level.

Wow, then every wizard I've ever played needs to add an extra feat.

That was my reaction to:P "WTF?! I've been losing out on a free feat?! I never use pets anyway!"
