| NemesisDragon03-14-07, 08:13 PM | Hello everyone, just wondering where the conversion for the Yellow Dragon was? Do any of the material publishers of the Forgotten Realms setting look at these boards? I know the dragon hasn't been presented yet (Which i've been wondering why it wasn't at least included in Dragons of Faerun) so I am requesting that it been presented in an upcoming sourcebook. Anybody else like to see these beast presented in updated rules? Ok i'm done ranting, later NemesisDragon:D |
| Treymordin03-14-07, 08:41 PM | What did the yellow dragon do? |
| NemesisDragon03-14-07, 11:44 PM | :D Well i don't know what you mean by "what did it do". It is simply another Dragon variety in forgotten realms. A special rivaly with Brass Dragons if i remember correctly. ND |
| ORC_Paradox03-15-07, 01:33 AM | The updated Yellow, purple and orange dragons were published in Dragon Magazine. (They're re-printed in the Dragon Magazine compendium 1.) |
| NemesisDragon03-15-07, 01:58 AM | I'm sorry I should have reiterated that point. Their are two yellow dragons that have been presented. One was just converted in the Dragon Compendium Vol. 1, which was also the specific Dragon Magazine version of the yellow. Now, their is also another "breed" of yellow if you will, which all Forgotten Realms fans pretty much know about. Look at 2nd edition Monstrous Manual and FR Draconomicon. Trust me, their is definately a difference, where as the dragon magazine version is coastal, the FR version is desert bound and both have very different abilities and physical descriptions. There we go, thanks NemesisDragon:D |
| NemesisDragon03-15-07, 03:22 PM | This reminds me, because I do not know any other way, but does anybody know how to get information to the game designers directly. I was just wondering. Wizo Paradox, if you have time i'm waiting for you to get back to me on my last post, not trying to get to insesant but I have been curious about this for years really. Thanks ND |
| Lord Karsus03-16-07, 12:34 AM | This reminds me, because I do not know any other way, but does anybody know how to get information to the game designers directly. -Some of them frequent these boards. Some of them frequent the boards over at Candlekeep.com. The majority of them have their own websites. |
| NemesisDragon03-16-07, 01:11 AM | Thank you Lord Karsus. I appreciate that little smidget of info, thanks again :D |
| Lord Karsus03-16-07, 01:15 AM | -I live to serve. ;) |
| Borris03-16-07, 02:04 AM | Regarding the Faerūnian desert-dwelling yellow dragon, there is no 3rd edition version so far but I'd say the sand dragon from Sandstorm makes a near=perfect substitute. Of course, it might take only a few hours for someone else to prove me wrong. To be honest I don't really remember any of the yellow dragon's special abilities. Only where it lived and its relationship with onther dragons. |
| NemesisDragon03-16-07, 02:05 PM | Yeah Borris, I had obvserved that myself as well. It is extremely close, almost identical. While reading in Dragons of Faerun on page 12 to be exact, when the book was listing dragon species it mentioned the Sand but obviously (because of no 3rd edition conversion) not the Yellow. So I thought the same thing but after I emailed and talked to customer service directly, apparently it's a different beast. I thought maybe it had just received a name change like some of the other creatures the past few years. So yeah, in a since you could use it as a substitute, but i suppose my point is if it's not the actual dragon, then i want the other one lol :D . I just get real picky on that hehe. Very good point though. ND |
| EytanBernstein03-17-07, 06:21 AM | To tell you the truth, I think the jury is still out on the yellow dragon. We talked about including it in DrF, but with severe space limitations and its relative similarity to other species (and relative lack of FR history), we decided to go with other dragon types. It's certainly possible it could pop up somewhere in the future, but I couldn't say if this will happen or when. |
| NemesisDragon03-17-07, 08:04 PM | Mr. Bernstein, I really appreciate your reply to this. I think it's very cool you took time out to answer that question. At least you all were thinking about it, so that interest me lol. Is it possible (if you get to read this) That perhaps maybe you guys do a web enhancement (another one lol) for DoF and perhaps you could then add the Yellow into the supplements this way? Would that be plausable to you or the others at WoTC? I could honestly think of another dragon or two that could go with the Yellow so it would be a nice gesture I believe. What would you say to that? Thank you very much sir :D NemesisDragon |
| EytanBernstein03-18-07, 03:50 PM | Mr. Bernstein, I really appreciate your reply to this. I think it's very cool you took time out to answer that question. More web enhancements are always possible if suitable material is available, but it would need to be a compelling premise. As for what's plausible, I can't say as I'm not actually at WotC. Both Eric Boyd and I are freelancers. |
| NemesisDragon03-19-07, 12:12 PM | Sorry that took me longer to reply to that question Mr. Bernstein. Well I would say the Electrum Dragon first off. I believe the Electrum may have been presented in Ruins of Myth Drannor (can't say for sure) but I'm sure even if they were, I'm sure they could sorely use a new conversion. And actually, perhaps the Cloud Dragon, seeing the clouds have the same roots as the Mist Dragon. And actually once again that's honestly about all I can think of. I think an update of just the Yellow and Electrum would be great (one chromatic, one metallic). Honestly other than those two (or three with Mr. Cloud) I can't even think of many dragons left in general that would need converting. So there you go, your thoughts?? :D |
| EytanBernstein03-19-07, 04:26 PM | I don't honestly know. I guess I have to ask how many of you guys would be interested in a web enhancement featuring some selection of those dragons. |
| NemesisDragon03-19-07, 11:31 PM | Fair enough Mr. Bernstein, that sounds good. I think you should write the thread up though since you are the designer. If I do it, it will not produce an adequete count ;) Also, you may check out the Paizo site and message board, I think you may find some feedback there as well as I had started a posting (I'll need to edit though because the title does not clarify what the thread is about good enough). Just let me know time permitting, and thank you! NemesisDragon:D |
| EytanBernstein03-20-07, 06:14 AM | I'm not really asking for a poll. I'm just informally asking if anyone is interested in this. Any responses here are more than adequate. |
| NemesisDragon03-20-07, 02:18 PM | Alright, sounds good :D Vote #1 I would like to see the web enhancement!!!! |
| AbyssKnight03-20-07, 11:00 PM | Yes, I think a web enhancement would be nice. Votes: 2 |
| Board_Rider03-21-07, 12:05 AM | Any new material is welcome by me. A preemptive thanks from the ol' BR. |
| Purple Dragon Knight03-21-07, 03:02 AM | Yep. |
| marcel_deathbringer03-21-07, 01:21 PM | Yup. |
| Togashi_Kuroto03-21-07, 10:18 PM | I would love for a second Draconomicom to come out with more dragons like the Mercury, Quicksilver, Platinum, and all other previous ones not in the first. For the love of Pete(who is Pete and why do we need his love?) I would love to see more on dragons itself, after all it is Dungeons and DRAGONS, but that's just me. Also I would like a web enhancement on every single one of these beautiful yet so horrifying beasts! |
| Calmar03-22-07, 03:38 AM | I would just take a red dragon and say its scales are yellow and it has somewhat different looks... :D |
| rolig03-22-07, 08:21 AM | Web enchantment ftw, wanna se the purple dragon... vote:3 |
| Jarin03-22-07, 02:11 PM | Count me in! I agree with Togashi Kuroto but two to start with is always good.:D |
| Grandpa Gamer03-23-07, 11:29 PM | "You owe me a dragon!" "You'll get one!" "I'd better!" "A bigger one! That one!" ... everyone turns and stares ... "Whay say you?" "Aye!!!" That's my vote - aye! |
| EytanBernstein03-24-07, 07:19 AM | Alrighty. I've got enough info here, no more need for voting. That's not to say that it will (or won't happen), but factors influencing that our outside of the boards. |
| Kaewin03-24-07, 11:48 AM | If last minute votes count the I am in there. Mors dragons are always good for monster food .... um I mean pcs. |
| Guennarr03-26-07, 03:10 PM | Hello Mr. Bernstein, I'd like to see more information on dragons in Faerūn, too. Any new dragon should have their part in Faerūn, though. I'd not like to see just one more dragon which is like a sand storm dragon, but looks yellow... ;-) Maybe sand dragons are known by the name "yellow dragon", too? I definitely look forward to a web enhancement for Dragons of Faerūn. Greetings, Günther |
| NemesisDragon03-26-07, 04:25 PM | http://www.dragnix.net/Role_Playing Here, I would like everybody to go to this link (scroll half way down) who is saying the sand and yellow are the same or do not know about the Yellow dragon. This link is a fan page for the old council of wyrms setting. The pictures of the dragon types shown come straight out of the 2nd edition Monstrous Manual. The Yellow is on the bottom. I have already contacted WoTC, the Sand Dragon is not the Yellow Dragon. The Sand and Yellow (the one in Dragon Compendium Vol. 1) were first published by Dragon magazine years ago. So once again, the sand is not the yellow, and the current 3e yellow is not the same either. This is the real Yellow that needs converted. You notice on this listing anyways the Cloud is the only other one needed to come over yet also that is why I mentioned it earlier in the thread. This is only a small resource I've aquired and I've done the homework on this. Anyways, hope that helps anyone and everyone who was inquiring about the thread etc. NemesisDragon :D |
| Morgil04-02-07, 08:25 AM | More dragon!!!! count my vote for more dragons! |
| EytanBernstein04-02-07, 03:50 PM | Hello Mr. Bernstein, I'd like to see more information on dragons in Faerūn, too. Any new dragon should have their part in Faerūn, though. | Razz04-03-07, 02:16 PM | Actually, the Electrum Dragon would get my vote and I'm not too worried about a Yellow Dragon. We have the Yellow from Dragon Compendium and the Sand from Sandstorm. What I would like to see is a Web Enhancement detailing both converted and new Linnorm dragons and their place in Faerun and Faerun's history. In the Rage of Dragons Trilogy, there was a corpse tearer involved in the story. Since the Linnorms were the primeval versions of present dragons, it would be a great asset to see new and old Linnorms detailed and updated to 3.5 with a historical background about them in Faerun. It'd make for a far more interesting article than just updating the Electrum dragon. What would make for a far better Web Enhancement is information on the Draconic Pantheon. A summary of all the dragon deities in the pantheon and what are their roles and places in Faerun back in the past and what are their roles today in Faerun? This article would be far more enriching than the above suggestions, IMO |
| EytanBernstein04-03-07, 04:27 PM | Without going in detail or saying what was/is being decided, I can say that all of what you guys have been asking for has been discussed and considered extensively. |
| Razz04-03-07, 11:47 PM | Without going in detail or saying what was/is being decided, I can say that all of what you guys have been asking for has been discussed and considered extensively. That is good to hear. Good news indeed. I also want to add that another good reason for a WE on the Draconic Pantheon is because of the "turning of the Great Cycle." This was mentioned in Dragons of Faerun, and is detailed in 2E Draconomicon. It is said that when the Great Cycle begins, there will be a sudden influx of worship among the Draconic Pantheon. Dragons of Faerun stated that the turning has arrived. If WotC seriously considers this route for a WE, don't forget to read not only 3E but also 2E's Draconomicon for a list of deities, alive and dead, in the Draconic Pantheon. The dead ones should be mentioned and summarized for the sake of the Servant of the Fallen feat in Lost Empires of Faerun, which allows a worshipper to serve a dead deity and possess divine power. |
| NemesisDragon04-04-07, 04:09 AM | Razz, once again, look at my last post. I'm not asking for "a yellow dragon" I'm asking for THE Yellow Dragon. You mentioned the 2nd ed Draconomicon, and so forth, so you should know that the Faerun Yellow Dragon is not the same as the Dragon Magazine, (I'm actually getting pretty sick of stressing that point) The Yellow, Electrum, and Cloud dragons are the only three dragons left out of the main grouping that needs converted. I also would like to see the Linnorms but lets face it, if they did it correctly it deserving needs to go into a product in my opinion (if you guys at WOTC read this, redo the Corpse Tearer, Dread, and Gray Linnorms please with their age categories). After those three that still leaves around 5-7 linnorms I believe, that's just too much for a WE. I will second WE's on the "turning of the great cycle" and the diety suggestion though. NemesisDragon :D |

Mr. Bernstein, I will say this. If I do not see a WE for my orginal suggestion though, can you please let me know before May if you read this, because I will submit an article in the meantime and possibly have it printed in Dragon Magazine, thanks. NemesisDragon :D I know what you meant about THE yellow dragon. But if produced it would just be too similar to the other two mentioned and there would be a great deal of confusion between that and the yellow dragon of Dragon Compendium. Maybe if it went by a different name? Though I can't think of any cause it has to be a chromatic dragon and there's no color I can think of that can be replaced. It'll be tough. Good luck. |
| NemesisDragon04-04-07, 02:45 PM | Yes, we will have a crowded desert but the adventurers supply the meat :D . I don't know about you Razz or anybody else but the other Yellow (Dragon compedium version) is a generic version to me anyways lol. Anyways, sorry about getting hyped up It's just the simple fact that I've been waiting on this monstrousity to be published for 6 years, and I'm done waiting lol :D . Anyways, yeah I hear ya on the name, and I don't care what it's called as long as somebody just does it. Call it an Egg Dragon for all I care, it apprently likes to dine on Brass Dragon eggs anyways, lol. NemesisDragon |
| GothicDan04-04-07, 03:08 PM | Folks, there's nothing in Realmslore regarding Yellow Dragons that would exclude the use of the 'generic' Yellow from Dragon.... It's not like they're hugely separate beasts, mechanically OR from a lore point of view. |
| Razz04-04-07, 03:27 PM | Folks, there's nothing in Realmslore regarding Yellow Dragons that would exclude the use of the 'generic' Yellow from Dragon.... It's not like they're hugely separate beasts, mechanically OR from a lore point of view. I agree. With Realmslore, the recent information on Yellows in Faerun is only presented in 2E Draconomicon and they don't have much lore to them since according to the information, Yellow Dragons are very recent, having been sighted for the first time only 5 years ago (5 years from the FR timelines then, which was 1369 D.R. I believe and so yellows have only been seen since 1364 D.R.) |
| NemesisDragon04-04-07, 10:11 PM | Ok listen guys, this is real simple. Instead of arguing with me on this, let me explain my point slightly differently ok. WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET MORE NEW INFORMATION FOR YOUR GAME, or would you rather use what you have and keep waiting...............and waiting.............and waiting................................. ............for new material. I think that sums it up rather nicely. If you want to argue the point, then fine. All I'm trying to do is get some new monsties out there and material so everybody can enjoy their games more ok. Now to your point, yes according to the sources the Yellow Dragon is a newbie to speak, so what. Why would you introduce a dragon for nothing. That is my point, they gave us a five year span, so lets see more information on them, that's all i'm saying. Anyways, back to original thread point. Do YOU want more stuff, or are you going to argue incessantly over the topic? I would rather not argue and just get the dag on stats and info. NemesisDragon;) |
| GothicDan04-04-07, 10:24 PM | I guess that explains how they can keep churning out slightly rehashed mechanics and why people keep buying the same old stuff over and over. ;) Apologies for trying to offer a more pragmatic view on things. Later, people. |
| Karsus the Mad04-04-07, 10:50 PM | WOULD YOU LIKE TO GET MORE NEW INFORMATION FOR YOUR GAME On dragons? Not particularly. Tho' the history and cultural aspects, yes please:) There's more than enough intelligent races and subraces with color or metallic schemes for me:) Eventually non-intelligent creatures are going to be a minority and then all the good carnivores will start to starve because it makes them feel guilty to eat another intelligent creature. Tho' I am curious as to when they'll get to ultraviolet, gamma, and microwave dragons, after going through the entire visible light spectrum, almost as much as I'm curious as to when they're going to get to titanium, zinc, and palladium elves. |
| GothicDan04-04-07, 10:52 PM | I'm a Uranium Elf. |
| Razz04-04-07, 11:03 PM | Ok listen guys, this is real simple. Instead of arguing with me on this, let me explain my point slightly differently ok. NemesisDragon;) I agree with the designers writing information on material that's very obscure or has been given only very little treatment in past editions and definitely need more spotlight. Like the Old Empires, Cold Lands, Sossal, High Ice, Hartsvale, or Lantan. I'd love to see a regional book on them already, but we'll most likely be waiting two years for one. But some stuff just won't get covered by the designers if they're really obscure. They're only going to do it if a large fan base wants it. A really large fan base. I don't think there is one for the yellow dragon. Though I admire your determination to make one in order to get these stats done by the designers. I personally have been rousing up people on the Paizo and ENWorld forums in order to get the editors and staff at Dragon Magazine to do the stats to the Hierarch Modrons since they updated and revised the Base Modrons to 3.5 It got my vote here, but I personally would rather see Eytan talk to the designers to do a better WE or something more than just the stats to an obscure dragon. I will definitely agree on an Electrum Dragon as I think it's sily they're ignoring such a creature just because electrum isn't really used in the current edition of D&D. But Linnorm material or material on Draconic Deities is just more beneficial to a larger group of FR fans and players. You can always tweak the Sand Dragon's stats to make it more in line with the FR Yellow Dragons. |
| NemesisDragon04-04-07, 11:33 PM | Ok gents ok, lets take a breather lol. Sorry if I'm going off a little purse lipped but, I guess I have this unrealistic ideal that if someone was going to upgrade a game or change rules (as in 2nd to 3rd) that if they were smart and wanted to appeal to everybody, that they would've converted all of the old material to the new rules, and from that point on work on new stuff, but that is just a fantasy of mine. To be honest with you, most of the material produced, not just for Forgotten Realms has been sub par in my opinion. You know what I think, I think that if Dragons of Faerun did not produce new dragons, that years ago the Draconomicon would. And yes it did, and it's a nice and excellent book, but come on, the book could have been bigger and badder. Maybe they just need to come out with part 2. I just think A billion dollar business should be able to produce more material. This is just one opinion of thousands so I doubt it counts, but Mr. Dan, you made an excellent comment, they keep producing books that are the same, supposed to be new, but they are the same, and we buy lol. Most books for 3rd are all the same old stuff revamped with a new look, and I think that sucks! Anyways, to keep from bouncing around, i just want to see all of the old stuff updated period, not just the darn dragon. Just one other little comment as many folks here prefer their fluff. I usually just use my 2nd edition collection for the fluff, as i'm sure many of you do. But it would be nice to get the essential crunchy stuff i need. Yeah I could tweek the Sand, or not at all (they are so similar anyways) but it just ain't the same lol, sorry i'm very picky. But I will have to do what I have to do but like I said, still would be nice to get it all in a total package. |

My offer is still up on the table, Bernstein if you see this, seriously let me know by May, I'll get these up, just wanted to reiterate that point. Later gents. :D And I agree with you on that. Lately, the D&D books have been very weak. This is because of several things: 1) The page count. Books used to be 190+ pages, 224+ pages. I really miss books as thick as Races of Stone, Draconomicon, Frostburn, and others. Because of low page count, however, we're receiving less material. Good reason why Dragons of Faerun has TWO web enhancements and may be having a 3rd if all goes well here 2) The bloatedness of "guidelines" WotC authors are forced to write when writing up prestige classes and, now, monsters. This takes up much more space that is already limited. Throwing maps into the book and adventures into a book is another thing that takes up space and is wasted, since those very same maps go on their website for free anyway. 3) The priority WotC has taken to "guide" DMs and players instead of giving them the "tools" to do it themselves. Apparently, they've taken upon the idea that a bunch of 10 year olds play this game (or want a bunch of 10 years to play it) or dim-witted high school/college students that have horrible math and reading comprehension and decided to write in a fashion of more guidelines. Basically, they've been lowering the standards for their books purposefully so they can attract more people, and therefore attract more money in their banks  4) Their website stopped doing articles like "Fey Feature", "Monster Mayhem", "The Mind's Eye", "Epic Insights", "Spellbooks of Faerun", "Portals of Faerun" and more. They were great articles because it provided game material for stuff that only a minority used, like epic material, or provided stats to old and new monsters. "Monster Mayhem" would've been perfect for the yellow dragon to be produced. The Mercury and Mist Dragon first appeared there before appearing in Dragons of Faerun. The Yellow Dragon could've had its day before they pulled the plug. However, WotC realized they were producing material for free on their websites and they could be making money off of them so their greedy hands snatched all the goodies from us and they're producing retarded articles like they have now. (some are good, like "Class Chronicles" and the very rare "Mind's Eye" is the last piece of crunch left on the website). :weep: Think about it, if it weren't for those 4 things, I am pretty sure the yellow dragon would've been printed by now either in one of the books or on "Monster Mayhem". I highly suggest you send emails to both Paizo Publishing's Dragon and Dungeon Magazine editors. They might consider it. They might throw in the yellow dragon in either of their magazines. Dungeon now has a "Wandering Creature" article that is known for producing either brand new or converted monsters. You could request this from them or even write it up yourself and send it to them as a query. :D |
| NemesisDragon04-05-07, 03:15 PM | Razz, you nailed it. Speaking of which if you website guys read this, why did you take all the good web contect down. I agree with you Razz on that, all of those were excellent. I wish they had those back and your right, i did see those other three dragons from a few years ago. I'm sure your right, could have maybe got the yellow on there if I would have emailed them enough then lol. So yeah, gotta move to other methods. Yeah that's why I put that comment in the last thread or two, I would love to know if that WE is gonna fly by May so I can get the required info to Dungeon or Dragon and see it in print for once. Just gotta play the waiting game now :D Once again though Razz good points ND |

But now you have people stuck with no more Epic material to look forward to each month, no more Psionic material, no more monster material, spells, etc. There could've been articles on Incarnum, Tome of Magic, Tome of Battle but no luck now. It's silly to see them go this route just because the few "crunch" material they could be putting out monthly will give them a few more cents in their paychecks if they published it instead. The funny thing is, they DON'T publish the very same material they took away! I don't see any more epic material, I rarely see psionic material, and I sure as hell don't see that much Incarnum material or anything else but Warlock material for that matter. |
| NemesisDragon04-12-07, 11:25 PM | Just wanted to pop in and say.................... I'm still waiting lol. Anytime soon hopefully. I would like to know if a decision is being made one way or the other. That's about it.:D |
| EytanBernstein04-13-07, 06:09 AM | If something like this were to be published, and I am not saying it will be, it would be many months before you saw any word of it. |
| NemesisDragon04-14-07, 02:19 AM | Alright fair enough. I'm not trying to be pessimistic but I'm out of options. I understand what your saying but I suppose what I would really like to know is would their be a very good chance of this being done a few months from now, or is it unlikely to happen. I am not trying to anger or aggitate anybody but you are not really answering the question. So, if you don't mind me prying once again for the trillionth time, is it going to be VERY likely, even if it takes months, or is this a subject you do not care about enough to fulfill (Not saying you do not care about the subject, I really mean you may have other works to finish). That is all I'm saying and sorry but I must be blunt. Once again not trying to step on any fingers or toes, but I must know. Thank you very much for your time :D |
| EytanBernstein04-14-07, 02:43 PM | If you're asking whether or not such a thing will be published in the next few months, the answer is no. There is definitely interest among the designers I've talked to to do this sort of thing, but most of us are currently busy with several other projects. |
| Razz04-15-07, 10:01 AM | Alright fair enough. I'm not trying to be pessimistic but I'm out of options. I really would like to know because if you have better projects to work on, I would gladly work on this project myself. That is all I'm saying and sorry but I must be blunt. Once again not trying to step on any fingers or toes, but I must know. Thank you very much for your time :D Yeah, dude, give them some time. They already have their books planned halfway through 2008 I believe, if not all of 2008. If anything, you might see something by 2009 |
| NemesisDragon04-15-07, 12:50 PM | Oh ok, I'm going to wait a year for something that should take a proficient master an hour to do. Don't seem very plausable to me Razz. That's one thing I will not agree with you on. Obviously I don't know how it is to work in the industry, even though I would love to, but that is how things are. |
| GothicDan04-15-07, 06:30 PM | Wow. Nemesis, for someone who was given positive feedback for a request you made of an official employee of WotC (or freelancer), who usually gets PAID to do what he does, you sure are greatful. |
| NemesisDragon04-15-07, 10:47 PM | Har har har :D |
| Razz04-15-07, 10:54 PM | Wow. Nemesis, for someone who was given positive feedback for a request you made of an official employee of WotC (or freelancer), who usually gets PAID to do what he does, you sure are greatful. Yeah, I can see where he is coming from, but that is not the right way at all to go about that. He should be happy that Eytan even bothered reading a thread with such a title and continuing to read through this thread and actually assisting him (along with some of us that threw in some suggestions) in taking this to the "big wigs" at WotC. Even if he doesn't appreciate it, Eytan, the rest of us do. :D |
| NemesisDragon04-16-07, 12:51 AM | Oh trust me, I appreciate it. Razz, my whole point is this. Nobody has said for sure one way or another that any of OUR suggestions would be done for sure. I myself really do not want to sit around for a year twiddling my thumbs hoping this material comes out one way or another, be it web enhancement or part of a sourcebook, and be disappointed when we do not see anything produced on it at all. I really do not see what you guys are getting so uptight about. I really doubt Mr. Bernstein is reading this and getting angry about the whole thing, so why are you? Don't make it into an issue. |
| Dark Wizard04-16-07, 01:10 AM | I don't believe any designer has every held back a fan of the game from creating their own material or updating older material their own way. Yet when you said you were going to do it yourself, there was a bit of uncalled for showmanship and arrogance in your wording; as if they were holding you back and you were self-righteously breaking free from that. Though that might not be your meaning, you did come off rather cocky in your posts. Your wording sounded dismissive of the work that the designers do. I think that is what people are reacting towards. Then you escalated it. Just be more aware of how you say things. |
| EytanBernstein04-16-07, 08:14 AM | Don't forget about NDAs. Regardless of what we are or aren't doing, we can't talk about publications until we have permission. |
| NemesisDragon04-16-07, 09:27 PM | Dark Wizard, Understood. I may enthrall some, and enrage others. Everybody has their own writing style and perhaps mine is a little more misunderstood than others. I find myself re-explaining things very often on this thread lol. I can assure you once again I'm not trying to dismiss the current publishers, or discredit their work. I was simply trying to delve into this topic, to see if any material of this sort is upcoming, relatively soon or not. Mr. Bernstein and others are busy with many things, perhaps if that aspect was knocked out of the way for them, it would be one less shard of work to finish for them. I hope you understand what I am saying this time, otherwise I really do not know how to say it. I do not think I am being self-righeous, arrogant or cocky, but you know what they say, opinions are like, well you know. I will say once again that I appreciate every one of the publishers with the upmost respect, it is just the simple fact that I do not agree with every aspect of how some material is handled, but is it any one persons fault? Nope. Not to mention that these little criticisms are so minor they really do not matter. In fact, it is probally good to give some to the publishers occasionally so that they can broaden their horizons for a wider audience. Can any one of you honestly sit their and say you absolutely love every aspect of every book you have picked up? Probably not. And that is not to say you do not love the book, because it is still great material anyways, or I would think most would say. I really do not think my one meager complaint is going to override the hundreds, if not thousands of praises I have sent the company, and to individual publishers already. Lets face it, truth be told they all have a very hard job. Every person who plays the game have opinions on what would be great material to publish and what they would like to see. To pick and choose amongst these would be very tedious work period. But unfortunately, and thank Razz for his comments, it is more or less about the money, as it is for probably any business in the world. I would just like to see information filled into the vacancies we have seen left open with many of the material, and I can guarantee the majority would also. I am simply trying to help. If you guys cannot see that, then so be it, I honestly do not know what to say to that. Later all :D |
| RavinRay04-27-07, 08:03 AM | I only saw this thread lately but I still want to weigh in... To tell you the truth, I think the jury is still out on the yellow dragon. I would like to see the Faerūnian yellow dragon updated too. Now as to how to handle the situation of two dragon species with the same name... I'm participating at this Converting True Dragons (http://www.enworld.org/showthread.php?t=181191) thread at EN World where we're speculating about renaming dragons or adding place names where needed. It looks like the yellow dragon from the "missing chromatics" subcategory has priority, if it appeared earlier in terms of publication; but I don't know of any campaign setting that actually made use of it; whereas the desert-loving yellow dragon, however subordinate a role it played in Faerūn compared to the other dragons, at least has a history. It may have to be renamed; but in 2e sources it is referred to as a chromatic species like the brown, so giving it a name not based on a color is sure to cause issues for some. (Then again, the steel dragon in Faerūn is called the Greyhawk dragon in Oerth and in the former world it is considered a metallic dragon along with the mercury; I don't know whether it is likewise considered a metallic dragon in Oerth despite having a non-metallic name.) Sorry that took me longer to reply to that question Mr. :D Electrum dragon for me as well. IIRC, there are two varieties in 2e: one has electricity-based abilities, the other has scholarly tendencies and is rumored to be a new species bred from the hybridization of gold and silver dragons (which, in the real world, makes sense because electrum is naturally-occurring alloy of Au and Ag). Shade over at EN World already converted the electrum dragon (presumably the one associated with Myth Drannor), and will post it in the future. If the storm drake in Draconomicon is not in fact the true cloud dragon, can we the drop the latter name as a nickname for it and come up with that mist dragon relative? I would love for a second Draconomicon to come out with more dragons like the Mercury, Quicksilver, Platinum, and all other previous ones not in the first. Since the game stats of the mercury dragon are in Dragons of Faerūn, what could be put there is an expanded write-up like for the 10 classic dragons. Quicksilver, while a synonym for mercury, might yet be used for another species altogether. Actually, I made one such dragon myself, one of nine new species that are members of fully aquatic subfamilies of the chromatic, metallic, and gem dragon families. It's a proposal I sent to Dragon magazine which was turned down, but they're still available. But first of all, I want to see gem dragons given those extensive write-ups; even though they play a secondary role in the Realms to their chromatic and metallic cousins they still have a history. And they seriously need to fully comply to the 3.5 psionic rules. (Disclosure: I have an unofficial update to gem dragon psionics at my Geocities website, with a link in my sig.) What would make for a far better Web Enhancement is information on the Draconic Pantheon. A summary of all the dragon deities in the pantheon and what are their roles and places in Faerun back in the past and what are their roles today in Faerun? I'm doing in-house work there too, but in the default D&D setting. Example, Garyx in his realm in Pandemonium. His lair has a portal to the Elemental Plane of Fire where he commands a following among salamanders, blazewyrms and other evil natives. Not satisfied with merely competing with Tiamat for rulership over red dragons, he's also trying to woo fire drakes, obsidian dragons (from the Legend of Sardior articles), and has a contingent of fire demons and ash demons (Dragon Compendium) that migrated from the Abyss. |
| NemesisDragon05-08-07, 02:29 PM | :D Agreed RavinRay. I just wanted to add in one more tidbit and I'm surprised I didn't noticed this earlier before, and I suppose this should have been in the core D&D section but I did not want to waste space. I was just looking through the good ol Draconomicon and they listed the Hellfire Wyrm as the Planar Dragon of Baator (Nine Hells). I was wondering were the Baator Dragon was and that is cool, but being a supposed True Dragon I would say he got jipped on his stats and where are his age categories. And of course I read the Storm Drake entry and I really and truly hope that is not supposed to be the real Cloud Dragon, but judging from the entry I would say it was meant to. And I know Ravin will disagree here but I think the Linnorms (Except Corpse Tearer and Midgard if he ever gets stated up, and not worried about the Dread) Need the age categories. I understand they are primordial Dragons, but maybe they don't need the true 12 level progression, perhaps a 6 or 8 would work, heck i don't know. Actually i just don't care, i just want to see the rest of them lol. So just to say once more if anybody is still looking, my request once again Re-stat the Hellfire Wyrm and Storm Drake (what I mean here is make the actual Cloud Dragon pleez) And of course, Yellow Dragon, Electrum Dragon and the rest of the Linnorms no matter the incarnation. :P |
| Razz05-08-07, 08:15 PM | :D Agreed RavinRay. As for the Storm Drake, yeah, it's the old cloud dragon but minus the age categories. They did that with the Linnorms, but I can see the reasoning. |
| RavinRay05-08-07, 08:39 PM | I've been agitating on that hellfire wyrm for some time now. The 3.0 phaerimm (Monsters of Faerūn) had no age categories, but the 3.5 phaerimm (Player's Guide to Faerūn web enhancement and Lost Empires of Faerūn) did (7), so it can be done. Todd Lockwood did the hellfire dragon cover for Dragon Magazine #302 (http://paizo.com/dragon/products/issues/2002/302) which came out merely two issues after the fiendish dragons' 3.0 stats in Dragon Magazine #300 (http://paizo.com/dragon/products/issues/2002/300). And what do we do with the Faerūnian yellow dragon, rename it? |
| NemesisDragon05-09-07, 03:30 AM | And what do we do with the Faerūnian yellow dragon, rename it? I suppose that is what will have to be done even though personally to me, just having the same same would not bother me, especially if it was a FR setting release, it would be pretty much understood that it is a different dragon. But for others whom are not familar, it will have to be. Funny though, I can't really think of another decent name for it that doesn't sound bland. I think I remember reading somewhere that it obviously likes extremely hot temps, maybe something regarding hotness??? Solar Dragon may not be bad lol, heck i don't know. Arid Dragon, Scorch Dragon, just trying to think temperature and/or climate terms, maybe those will work. I'm all ears for suggestions, but like i said, i wouldn't mind what it is called, i just want to see it hehe :D All I can say is that hopefully the new online material will be able to hook us up on the issue amongst others. Still don't know what to think of that but i'll take it with a grain of salt until it gets here. Bout all I have to say for now, later gents. :P |

The brown dragon, also a Faerun speciality, made it into a (rather weak I thought) Monsters of Faerun supplement, but the yellow did not. Also I agree, the Greyhawk Dragon = the Steel dragon. If the storm drake in Draconomicon is not in fact the true cloud dragon, can we the drop the latter name as a nickname for it and come up with that mist dragon relative? ***From what I can tell from another thread, one discussing a steampunk campaign setting, the cloud dragon that first appeared in 1E MM2 is most definitely a different dragon than what appeared in 3E Draconomicon. The pictures have some similiarty but are not that close. A shame. I used the cloud dragon and continue to use it (and have but not used yet the mist dragon). To me these are elemental dragons, another category alongside chromatic, metallic, gem, and planar dragons. Since the game stats of the mercury dragon are in Dragons of Faerūn, what could be put there is an expanded write-up like for the 10 classic dragons. My website has rock dragons like the marble and sandstone dragons. 2E though. |
| NemesisDragon05-12-07, 12:34 AM | I just wanted to chime in quickly since my brain clicked when I seen Mazaron's post. If any of the devolopers are once again checking this out, and if the product is not finialized, perhaps a good introduction for the Faerun Yellow (name change or not) would be the Anauroch Adventure book coming out in a few months. Just a thought. Don't know as far as the others but yeah, makes sense to me. That's about it lol. I would be interested in checking out your guys homebrew's if you have links, they sound very cool. If you see this could you help with that?? :P Laterz |
| AffableDoomwalker05-12-07, 06:35 AM | Whilst we're at it, where, aside from Dragon Magazine, can I find info on a Purple Dragon? |
| RavinRay05-12-07, 09:59 AM | The yellow dragon to me is one of the most interesting features of Anauroch and I was disappointed to see it only in one source, the 2E Draconomicon. Since Dragons of Faerūn mentioned the sand dragon from Sandstorm as a Faerūnian dragon, I'm beginning to feel that converting yet another desert-dwelling dragon (blues, brasses, browns, and rattelyrs already) is not a priority. :( Tell me about the rejections! My website has rock dragons like the marble and sandstone dragons. 2E though. You wrote those? I remember seeing them years ago! :) |

If you see this could you help with that?? :P Laterz I didn't know they were doing an Anauroch book. When it is coming out? I used Anauroch (and still use it) quite a bit IMCs, though mine had no Bedine or Phaerim, but did have yellow, brass, copper, and blue dragons as well as gnolls and goblin cities. I can easily imagine the powers that be having forgotten the 2E yellow dragon, but here's hoping. The stone dragons (and some drakes of mine) can be found by Googling Mazaron's Castle. It should come up pretty easily, they are in the bestiary section. Remember they are second edition! I always liked the stone dragons and made use of the granite dragon as a continuing NPC. I also created but have not posted some protodragons (the kelp, canyon, and jungle protodragons) for Maztica and had in my campaign a subspecies of blue dragon living in the Inner Sea called the Azure Dragon. |
| Mazaron05-13-07, 02:39 PM | Since Dragons of Faerūn mentioned the sand dragon from Sandstorm as a Faerūnian dragon, I'm beginning to feel that converting yet another desert-dwelling dragon (blues, brasses, browns, and rattelyrs already) is not a priority. :( You wrote those? I remember seeing them years ago! :) You make a great point about the desert dragons but I would imagine that an Anauroch sourcebook would need some filler (not that yellow dragons are filler!) and that would be their best opporunity to do a 3.5E one if they were going to do one. They did the brown, why not the yellow? Plus, the yellow dragon does have seniority over the rattelyr, which is a newcomer. As for the stone dragons, no I didn't do them. A person by the name of Kelly Pederson did, he allowed me to post them on my website a few years back. I did do all the other monsters though at Mazaron's Castle, including a few drakes like the sale drake and pine drake. |
| NemesisDragon05-13-07, 07:10 PM | We can never have enough Dragons or creatures in general, just wanted to add that also lol. Anyways Mazaron, it's going to be an adventure book I suppose but I will supply a link below. It is set to release this November so I'm hoping if the Yellow isn't in it yet, maybe we have enough time to try and boost him in there. http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/fracc/978078694 Like I said before though it's not a sourcebook so I can only hope they have a small bestiary like a lot of the other large adventure books such as Expedition to the Demonweb Pits (I thought that was a great job well done!) and a few of the others. My fingers are crossed. Thanks also Mazaron for the info on your page, 2e or not, always nice to take a gander at some of the information available. Alrighty gentelmen, take it easy and hope that info helps :D |
| NemesisDragon06-05-07, 08:31 PM | Just wanted to add a little tidbit since we have talked about a few dragons. A nice Cloud Dragon entry is included in the tome of horrors and since the tome is a sort of official book, I suppose that in itself will solve the problem with the cloud dragon (Some monsters from the tome have been and I assume maybe will be converted by WOTC, But like I said I seen somewhere that the tome of horrors was some sort of licensed material). Also it is updated to 3.5 in the update to the tome. LoL. I can't believe I overlooked that earlier but it happens. Just for anybody who may have wanted to know. :P |
| NemesisDragon06-18-07, 04:59 AM | Also wanted to add this little bit of Realmslore since some people claim their is not enough to support the dragons: Electrum Dragons (Draco Magus Electrum) Electrum dragons are peaceful and philosophical in nature, but become deadly, alert, and deliberate fighters when aroused. They dwell alone in lairs of stone (abondoned buildings, mountains, caverns), far from civilization but they often welcome visitors because they enjoy trading, bargaining, and philosophical debate. They hoard things of beauty rather than monetary wealth (which is not to say these items are not priceless). Common hoard items include statues, musical instruments, tapestries, gems and jewlry (coinage is extremely rare). In battle, electrum dragons prefer to use their spells and breath weapon from a distance. Tbey are wise generals, anticipating the strategies of foes. However, if they are forced into melee or their spells and breath weapons do not work, they prove to be deadly warriors. The breath weapon of an electrum dragon is an unstable gas which causes enfeeblement and/or confusion. Electrum Dragons are also great spell casters, some innate some not. They often research magic to add to their already mighty arsenal of magic and are formidible in the arts of the arcane. Electrum dragons spend much time in tought, often perched on mountain peaks, as immobile as statues. They are curious and like to watch unnoticed the activities of creatures that dwell around them. Much of their time is spent seeking out things of beauty or practicing magic (for they find beauty in the use of magic itself). Electrum dragons will mate approximately once every century. Electrum dragons eat lichens, scrub bushes, and graze treetops for tender young leaves. They also eat all manner of fish, fowl, and meat, especially enjoying the flesh of wyverns and griffons. Some electrums have invented new spells and have sold or given them to humans and elves. In some places, electrum dragons are worshiped by primitive tribes or respected as sages. *Between the years of 709-711, during the fall of Myth Drannor, 8 gold dragons and 8 silver dragons were merged during a wild magic surge, creating 8 unique Electrum dragons which were not the same as the current electrum dragons. Some sages say that these were the progenitors of the Electrum Dragons. Yellow Dragon Although the existence of yellow dragons has long been predicted by sages (based on theories of primary colors), the first species was spotted only five years ago (placing the timeline 1345-1355 approximately, at the approximate time of the writing of the book of dragons). However, information from the cult of dragon indicates that the yellows have been around for quite a bit longer than that, and that the cult has enjoyed using them for various purposes. The creatures are solitary and secretive, preferring to lay in wait for prey to stumble into carefully prepared traps instead of hunting actively (A yellow dragon will actively lair in the lowest regions available with the thought that fatigued and tired "prey" will go to the lowest point, consciously or sub-consciously.) At birth, yellow dragons have soft, tan scales. As they grow their scales lighten up eventually reaching the grayish yellow of desert sands, and they always have a dusty texture to them, giving them a finish that does not reflect light that well. No part of a yellow dragon will glint in the sunlight and give away their position. Yellows prefer guile to combat and ambush to attack, but are fierce and cunning fighters. Even if they are forced into direct combat, they'll still use their spells and innate abilities so as to mislead, misdirect, and distract their opponents. A favorite tactic of the yellow is to dig a steep-walled, cone shaped depression in the sand, and then bury itself at the bottom of the crater with just its eyes and nostrils showing. When a creature stumbles into the depression, the dragon moves its wings in the sand, causing the steep walls of the cone to collapse and drawing the prety straight into the dragon's mouth. A yellow dragons breath weapon is a high-velocity blast of cone-shaped scorching air mixed with sand. On top of the heat to worry about, the grit in the eyes can cause blindness. Yellow dragons love deserts, preferring areas of sandy, windswept desolation. They are most comfortable in daytime temperatures of 105 degress and up, although they can easily survive subfreezing temperatures at night (The first 'official' specimen of a yellow dragon was collected in an area of Anauroch called the Anvil of the Gods, where the average daytime temperature is 115 degrees.). They share much of the same territory as brasses thus the species occasionally come into conflict. Yellows are solitary, selfish creatures that form no close bonds with any other creature, including other yellows. They are high territorial; the only time they'll let another yellow into their territory is to mate, which is actually quite rare. Immediately afterward, the dragons seperate. The mother raises the offspring, but won't go out of her way to protect them from attackers. Although able to eat anything, yellows favor fresh meat. (Demi)Humans are considered a delicacy, as are the unhatched eggs of brass dragons. (Yellows rarely get to enjoy this latter feast :D) Recent Years/Rage of Dragons I actually do not feel at liberty to describe these events lol. I do not feel as if I am a sage, a scribe etc. The best I can say is that the Yellows probably scoured Anauroch and most northern lands and I wouldn't be sure with the Electrums. I would say the electrums would have perhaps found a way magically to get past the rage in a peaceful way (a method similar to Nexus's slumber, perhaps plane jumping like the gems) I couldn't really say. Anyways, Here is to hoping they will convert these too dragons (keeps fingers crossed just like the past few years). Also I did not find any good fan conversions yet for the Electrum. Boz from enworld had one but it is a bit overpowered and unfortunately I cannot find the link anymore. The enworld creature catalog (I think the Creature Catalog is a good source for some hard to find unconverted creatures in general) has a good conversion of the Yellow Dragon however. Also, the sand dragon from the sourcebook Sandstorm can be used for the Yellow (I do not like to do that however) and also the Tome and Hex Dragon from Dragon 343 could be used for the Electrum (still insist that we need the actual Electrum). I think that's about all the information I have folks. I compiled these from the following sources. Electrum Dragon: Dragon #74, Fall of Myth Drannor, Ruins of Myth Drannor, Monstrous Compendium Annual #1 Yelllow Dragon: Draconomicon, Monstrous Manual, Cult of the Dragon (All sourcebooks for both dragons are the AD&D 2nd edition, with the exception of Dragon #74 I believe) So yes, I believe their is quite a bit to support to two. I can't help it, I think they both rock lol. Anyways, hope this helps as well, laterz :P |
| NemesisDragon08-20-07, 04:04 AM | Well, I suppose that says it all. So that's why nobody wanted to do anything on a conversion, understood. I guess that would make for one hell of a NDA agreement lol. 4th edition Here is to hoping these wonderful dragons get their place in the new edition, for I don't see it happening for 3rd now. Thanks anyways I suppose :P |
