This is just something I did in one RP and built it. It took alot of work, but I eventually got it done. First we took a sailing ship and stripped it of all it's insides. Gutted the thing.

Then we rerigged the sailts to allow room for a vent. Then we rebuilt the decks inside to allow for an extra large room below. After this we built a gun deck and bought cannons (Expensive things) building them on the edge for broadside capabilities.

Then we sheaved it in iron, effectivly making the thing an ironclad like the dwarven ship from Arms and Equipment. After this we bought 15 Clockwork Steeds. We also bought four propellers used in gnome zepplins (Yes also in Arms and Equipment) and attatched them to shafts that we connected to the clockwork horses that wre gutted to power an engine. Using this we vented the steam out of their nostrils to the vent, and used them to power the ship. Also everburning torches didn't hurt either. Speed was chosen by a "rider" who controlled the steeds from a saddle that connected to them all and he desiphered speed that way.

It wasn't the fastest ship, but that thing could batter the hell out of any other fleet in the sea. I loved that ship. She was... *Sniffs* beautiful.

Why not put it on retractable wheels for some landship action. Great for those treks through enemy territory or dangerous landways.

At that point, you may as well add a compartment you can stow a giant balloon and a little cabin to stow equipment to generate "ethereal gas" to fill it with, maybe some attachable or retractible wings, to make the thing a sea/air ship....

OOH that actually sounds like a neat idea with the airship. And I didn't do the legs because that would overcomplicate it as well as the weight of this thing is way too heavy for any reasonable legs.

I'll write down that airship idea though. That sounds like a viable idea.

Don't forget to attach a smaller flying vehicle under the airship, so Harrison Ford can get on the thing and fly away with Connery.

I tweaked out my airships sides to react to the element it was being attacked with, changing to give it DR 10 against that element. anything else met cold, hard mithral. Threw some cannons on it, added bomb holes, a small alchemist lab, and a Halruaan Civil War, and you have one helluva time... oh, plus the small after burners. that was a nice piece of enginuity there...

Wait. You want to make a galley fitted with 15 clockwork horses go airborne with a simple gasballoon propulsion? Ain't gonna work (unless you want to fit on gargantuan balloons filled with humoungous amounts of gas; can you say sitting explosive duck?).

Maybe superconcentrated gas from the elemental plane of air could pull it off. Or just go with the ebberonian solution and bind air elementals in the balloons.

Harvest beholders for their gas bladders or figure out a way to synthesize it alchemically... isn't explosive or flammable that I know of, and certainly seems quite capable of supporting a relatively large weight with a smallish amount. Was an idea my wife came up with, which was amusing since the character was a Nocker for Changeling: The Dreaming who liked pillaging D&D for inspiration. :D

If you want to make it fly, add a spelljammer helm.
I've seen 3rd edition rules posted somewhere online but all the pritnted stuff is 2nd edition, just a matter of converting it
