I am designing a complex that includes many things Dwarven. Long ago I either played though or read about a substance located in deep earth that is extremely rare; it was either stone or perhaps a metal that prevented magic from working. I was wondering if it had a name or perhaps if someone might point me backwards in time to where ever it was I encountered it.

I'm pretty sure there's a connection between magic resistance, and the metal having magnetic abilities. But that's just off the top of my head, and I can't recall where I found that info.

I'm pretty sure you're referring to Hizagkuur, which can be found in the 2e Volo's Guide to All Things Magical, available free off the WotC site. Having said that, it was seriously gimped in its 3e incarnation comparatively, which I think was written up in Magic of Faerun.

Lead also prevents magic from working anything encased in it, behind it, or through it.....and is more common
