Alright, so....being the elf that i am, i have made many a bad-ass elven arcmage that has been searching Faerun over for the location of 2 artifacts...always to no avail...i was wondering if anyone knows the location of either the Highfire Crown, or the Arcstaff of Khovaerm?

I asked about the Arcstaff a little while ago, and the answer is basically "nobody knows". About the most one could say is that its last known location was within the Irythil vaults in Myth Drannor, and that wherever it is now (it may still be there, or it may be elsewhere), it is sealed within some form of stasis field.

In terms of what I've done with it, one of the characters in my campaign currently possesses the Arcstaff.

Highfire Crown appeared in Blackstaff

it can be anywhere in FR

also, I asked Schend about Ualair's selu'kirrra:

Honestly, I'd forgotten to do anything with Ualair's selu'kiira. Thus, there's a number of things that can be done. Until Wotc addresses it, it's up in the air as to what's canonical or not.

A) It (and he, as the former Grand Mage of Cormanthyr) has joined with the Highfire Crown and it is now composed of 14 individual gems/personages that lurk about the Realms and come together when called or desired to do so. [This is the most likely happening.]

B) Someone of elvish descent in the ritual has gained Ualair's selu'kiira and is using it. [This makes it perfect for introduction into a campaign if an NPC your players interact with suddenly starts having insights and more knowledge about things...]

C) ELminster or one of the Chosen (not Laeral, though) has received the kiira and holds it for safe-keeping. [This is the 2nd most likely thing to happen, and then said Chosen can bequeath it to a deserving person.]

D) The gem blips around the Realms, temporarily attaching itself to items and leading people it deems worthy into Rhymanthiin.

I thought the Arcstaff was in the the hoard of the green dracolich Venominhandar in the Cormanthyr Woods ... it's mentioned in the "Cult of the Dragon" sourcebook IIRC.

I'm poking through that book now, and can't see the reference. Where exactly would it be?

Wasn't the staff that that dracolich had was the diamond lorestaff of Chomylla? [Spelling?]

It is probably one of the three long-lost lorestaffs of Uvarean, along with the diamond staff of Chomylla, mentioned above.

 Opps, my mistake. It is indeed the Diamond Staff of Chomylla. Looks like that senility thing is kicking in ...

WOW! *awestruck moment of silence* did I actually beat Krash and Marcus to a lore tidbit?

I game on the next weeks Friday Krash and Marcus, the pizza and beer are on me!!! :D :cloud9: :w00t:

No one's infallible, but Krash's knowledge of the Realms far exceeds my own (as does Old Sage's and several other regulars).

You should read a certain thread over at CK, where Krash pointed out a piece of Realmslore to Steven schend... lore HE HIMSELF wrote! :D

I think even Ed has troubling remembering everything he ever wrote about the Realms, and the man's a walking encyclopedia. :P

How do you like your pizza? I am firing up the next pathfinder campaign arc on next Friday if you and Krash want to play.:D

Let's see, the last time I played D&D we still had THACOs and Saves v. rod/staff/wand and all of the Seven Sisters hadn't been revealed.:)

So I guess I'll have to pass. Thanks for the invite though.:D

Gotta love the amount of reading one has to do to contribute on the GHotR, which, as a side note, is possibly the greatest accessory in FR Canon history. Someone get this guy an entry in the Chamber of Sages over at Candlekeep already so we can start pestering him for more lore! :D

Now, back on topic, the notes I remember about the Highfire crown's location involved these clues:

"Sighted only briefly after the establishment of the mythal over Elven Court, the Highfire Crown was a mysterious portent for the surviving elves after the Fall of Myth Drannor."

-and-

"The soon-to-be-legendary Highfire Crown hovered at the peak of the new mythal for the first night of its life, then merged with the next day's dawn, like Eltargrim's Passing. "

Based on novels, etc, the likely possesser of the Highfire crown, imho, is the Srinshee. As to the Arcstaff, I know of no canon entry even touching upon it's current owner, but in your campaign, you can go with whatever RP dictates :)

This question has become part of a contest, so it seems - read question #10 here -

The Sage Contest (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/4mst/ask)

I have found the third lorestaff of Uvarean - it would be the Lord's staff used by Azoun to slay the devil-dragon Nalavara, so at least we have names for all three.

Arcstaff
Diamond Staff
Lord's Staff

Where the two items in the OP's question are is anyone's guess - I think a DM is supposed to place them himself. This game does require a little ingenuity to run, after all. ;)

I declined a "listing" in the Chamber of Sages a while ago. I didn't and don't think I warrant it. Three Dragon articles and 3000 words and a bunch of tables on kings and queens in GHotR is hardly a resume requiring that kind of recognition.

Everyone knows that I'm only an e-mail away if they want to pester me about realmslore.

Can I borrow this thread for a moment? Thanks.

On the subject of missing artifacts, I don't have many novels and most of my 2e stuff is missing. Does anyone know the location or fate of the Sword of Tethyr? (I think I identified it right. It's the sword that elf used to kill those two dragons. Egad, I sound like such a noob...:embarrass :) ) I ask because one of my PCs recently laid his hands on a magical sword, and he might not be powerful enough to merit such an artifact, so any information on it would be a great help. He hasn't identified the sword yet, so he'll never know I was even considering it.

You might be better off asking that in Steven Schend's scroll over at CK - if anyone knows where something in the Lands of Intrigue is, it would be the man who pretty much created them.

I would be inclined to believe the crown resides there, given that the wards of the city prevent "those with malice in their hearts" from finding a path to it, and as such it would be a good place to sequester it for the time being.
