I'm using a name from 3.0E because it fits & sounds decent.

Halfspear: This light spear is about 3' to 3 1/2' long and is used only with one hand. Unlike other spears, the halfspear is too short to be set against a charge. The halfspear can be thrown, and can be used with the weapon finesse feat.

Type: Simple Melee
Size: Light
Cost: 1gp
Dmg(S): 1d3
Dmg(M): 1d4
Critical: x2
Range Increment: 20 ft.
Weight: 2 lb.
Type: Piercing

Does this seem balance to you? (It's inteneded to be used by primitive skirmishers.)

I see no reason for this weapon to be deemed unbalanced, becuase it is in essence a dart that allows melee use.

And I say its damage is too weak for its weight. The damage is same as that of a dart! (Crit stat is same too)

The real question would be if the Mini-Spear or "Whippet" is Balanced for throwing?....lol.

In cultures lacking enough metal to make metal daggers but enough to make spear heads the "Whippet" is a close combat weapon that is usually intentionally made but sometimes is improvised when a spear is broken in battle.

Whippets intentionally made usually have "tails" of string and a specially balanced head and body to allow throwing (Thus mistaken for "really large darts") while an improvised Whippet may not be throwable because the head and what is left of the broken speak may not be proporly balanced

Whippet Heads vary in size and design so 1d3 is fair though the bigger nastier jagged ones can do 1d6 damage, a throwing mechanism can add add up to double damage (throwing only, its a special type of sling a whippet can be launched from) and with a rocket attached to it (Your "invention" is actually a unpowered Chinese Missle) it can hit for additional damage of it's die on every maximum (1d3 with 1d3 on every 3, plus chance of knock down, plus possible system shock)
