Ok.. Sort of a strange question... But has anybody ever tried to recreate an Iron Man-esque armor magically?

I have a character that currently has a suit of Mithril Full Plate Armor and he has slowly been upgrading it, adding odds and ends as he could.

I was reading an Iron Man comicbook and the idea popped into my head.. So.. I was wondering if anybody had ever tried this or if anybody has any idea as to how this could be accomplished???

Thanks

In the campaign I'm currently in, we're more or less trying to find ways to make the power armor we found (from the Barrier Peaks adventure, which was adapted to an encounter in the Storm Horns) actually useful, as it was rendered, y'know, effectively powerless (insert random ironic comment here) by Faerun's technological level limitations.

Not as much as upgrading like in your case, but finding magical ways to replace its normally tech-powered functions. There's a lot of trial and error involved, and it doesn't help that our wizard has no reference material to work on. Still, it's gotten to the point where she thinks she's figured out how everything works.

The suit is now more or less wearable now, with the power cells replaced with an elemental spirit (similar to what animates a nimblewright). If the spirit is otherwise released or disabled (like, oh, by a Disjunction), the suit goes inert though, as the joints lock in place.

The armor my character wears is actually based on the image of the Green Knight. The armor he wears was crafted by elves deep with the forests. The armor is mithril, with a green hue. The gree hue is enchanted and hanges with the seasons. Light green in the spring, dark green in summer, brown in fall and grey in winter... the cycle then returns as Spring approaches.
Since the armor represents a legacy of protecting the forrests of the Faerun, I wanted it to be something that was continually modified and changed by the wearer.

Well... I can see where you sit/stand on this matter.

I had a GM that was .... well lets just say that if it was not written in a sourcebook, it did not or could not happen.

I cannot be the first to think of enchanting armor so that it made them a better fighter. It is akin to the fighter stapping on a Girdle of Giant Strength, Gauntlets of Ogre Power etc etc etc .... My idea simply focuses all those elements in one place. Also... it would cost small fortune to get it done.. but it is something to quest for...

What you want would essentially be an artifact: a suit of armor with a high enough armor class (possibly even damage resistance) that enhances one's physical attributes (at least Strength) and speed, and allows for flight at will... likely at movement rates superior to that of a normal Fly spell. And we haven't even gotten to wand-equivalent "ray" attacks.

I would say this would cost more than a "small" fortune. :)

Within limits you could probably get the equivalent. check out the rules for enhancing armour and for multiple powers in a single item. I haven't actually read an ironman comic in atleast 10 years but as I remember it he had the equivalent of lowlight and dark vision (maybe even blindsense), enhanced strength, speed, flight, the repulsor rays (force blasts), a blinding light (sunblast), and a few other powers. His armour was sectional so you would effectively have the following items to work with:
Helmet (head)
Vambrances (arms)
Gauntlets (hands)
Boots (feet)
Gorget (Neck)
Belt (waist)
and potentially:
rings (2)
Cloak (1)
Shield (1)
to work with. Assuming you used al 10 enhancement slots between basic enhancement bonuses and special powers that would give youl
60 to 100+ enhancements (I've counted the rings as 10 enhancement levels but a better way might be to think about the power stored in them as spell levels - about the most powerful rings are rings of 3 wishes giving you about 27 spell levels maximum in a ring to play with. That would mean basically 80 enhancement leves and 54 spell levels in a full set of "ironman armour" - a very very powerful set and one probably costing millions of gold pieces and thousands of experience points even to create. still it could be done technically under the rules - and none of it would be epic technically.
Take a look at the new Compendium of magic items for many updated magic items and a good scheme for determining power and effectivelevel of the item then go have fun dreaming and creating. :D :D :D

Mechanus Armor from the Planer Handbook looks pretty much like Ironman armor, it has no dex bonus and a +10 armor bonus. Beyong that, just think about the Big Metal Unit and Big Metal Rod from Baldur's Gate 2

i like the big metal unit you just have to push them over and you win

Maybe find an Lantanese artificer to help. I've never read an iron man comic book before, but I'd take a gander that at least some, if not most, of the powers could be relatively duplicated using an artificer device suit of armor. It'd even be technological rather than magical.

I actually created EXACTLY that for my anti-paladin waaaaaay back in the day. He was already carrying Stormbringer, and had found Elric's Ring of Kings, which turned out to be just a piece to a much more ancient artifact - The ARMOR of Kings!

I had each piece based on existing magic items (boots of flying, gloves with built-in force beams, girdle of Titan Strength, etc...), and I dragged my party around for a year collecting all the pieces.

Once I completed it there wasn't much sense playing anymore, ya' know, given the sword and everything...

Not to mention I was a level 23 Anti-Paladin, level 15 Dark Priest, level 9 evil Ranger....

I think I might have had a few levels of Assassin in there as well...

If I come across the write-up for it I will post it... just for laughs.

It was for awhile, but it got boring. The DM was a good friend of mine, but he really should have controlled us a little better. In his defense, he was a very creative DM and ran the game smoothly. We just needed some 'tough love'. ;)

After playing that character one or two more times, I voluntarily retired him - he started his own small kingdom somewhere in the north and became an NPC, at first for my DM and later in my own campaigns, where he became the 'behind-the-scenes' arch-foe.

He worked out even better that way - a fully fleshed out NPC with his own agenda. :D

http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/cw/20070212a Try this, mechanical heavy armour tat could serve as a great base for 'Iron man' armour.

Try GOLEM ARMOR (http://www.enworld.org/showpost.php?p=1928923&postcount=5) from Bastion Press Arms & Armor. it is not quite Iron Man Armor but it is close

with all the armor creation options out there, you can make a pretty badass suit. With the standard enhancements that add a "virtual +", to gp value enchantments, to the new crystal fittings from Magic Item Comp., the sky is the limit, a mid level PC with enough gold can become iron man without much trouble.
My dwarven fighter is in the process of creating a suit of adamantine dwarvencraft battle plate with ALL the fixings... I ran out of gold, but its still amazing as it is... the 200,000gp limit gives you plenty of leg room.

It's actually mind-numbingly easy.

Get yourself some gauntlets with wand chambers (Dungeonscape) in them. Get yourself a +1 mithral full plate, some boots of flying, and build a belt of giant strength and an iridescent spindle ioun stone into the armor.

Paint it red and gold, and you're done.

IIRC there's a gnome in Tethyr who can make an Ironman-esq suit if you bring him Golden, Silver, and Bronze Pants he can forge them into a suit of armor similar to what you're talking about.

Check this link, I think this is what you are looking fore, I now its not traditional D&D, much less Forgotten, but it might work fore you

You’ll have to enchant it even more to ad the energy blasts and flying, but that’s up to you and your DM

Otherwise think about being a Warforge

good luck
