Can anyone point me to a thread that discusses reducing the number of dice you roll? Right now my players are level 15+ and are routinely rolling 15d6 for damage spells etc. I know there are some excellent suggestions for converting for instance 15d6 to 3d6+42, but I can't find them anymore.

The best way is just to do "average" damage. You'll never see extraordinarily high or low results (obviously), but that balances out over time. (There's nothing quite like looking down at the bucketload of dice you just rolled and seeing a stack of 6s. ;) )

If you use a laptop or play by a PC yo ucould download a random number generator or dice rolling program. Type in the dice or nunber range you want and no more bucketfulls of dice. Although I have to agree with Zand, there is something special about staring down at 15d6 waiting to be rolled ;)
