| marcel_deathbringer04-13-07, 02:02 PM | where can I find info on a Spider Silk Shirt?? |
| Dielzen04-13-07, 02:15 PM | Underdark has web armor, not sure of any actual "spider silk" armors. |
| marcel_deathbringer04-13-07, 04:02 PM | Well I was just reading some info abot Drizzt and I read he wears a spider silk shirt for armour. I had never heard of it before and I was wondering about its origins, what it does, how difficult it is to come by, etc.......... |
| Diffan04-13-07, 09:25 PM | If your talking about the armor Drizzt took from the drow he decapitated, I don't think there are any official specs. on it. I have my own ideas about the armor and if I were to use Drizzt as an NPC his armor would be this: +3 mithral chain shirt of axe/spear blocking which would give him damage reduction 5/bludgeoning and a +3 to his armor AC. |
| TomCosta04-14-07, 08:48 AM | Underdark actually has "spidersilk" armor and it appears to be exactly what Drizzt is wearing, though is most likely highly enchanted, perhaps +5 with some fortitification. |
| Zanan04-14-07, 11:25 AM | Some other d20 products on the drow also feature similar armor, as does the ominous Dragon 298. BTW, do look into the Arms & Equipment Guide and Tessellated Armor (p. 95). I guess elven and drow clerics will love that one, though I would assume that prizes might have gone up in 3RE. |
| rolig04-14-07, 07:08 PM | Yup drizzt wears an enchanted spidersilk aurmor witch he aquiers in the novels about him after he somhow loses his studded leather aurmor... if you want more info about that im sure someone else can fill you in... And as said... stats in the underdark book... guess it will be stats for it in the new drow book to, but can't say |

As for it's possible stats, I've seen someone list it as a +5 Moderate Fortification Spidersilk Shirt, though I'm thinking that the Spearblock and/or Axeblock properties might fit in well instead of the Fortification. |
| Zanan04-16-07, 09:25 AM | A +8 item for the scimitar wielder? ... when did this actually happen? Last time I looked into the Heroes' Lorebook it was a +4 mithral chainmail ... |
| Pystian04-16-07, 04:42 PM | I think there might be standards for a "legendary" set of spidersilk armor in Expedition to the Demonweb Pits? |
| TomCosta04-16-07, 05:18 PM | Zanan, in the last Drizzt trilogy, Drizzt picked up some new armor made of spidersilk. |
| Karsus the Mad04-16-07, 07:57 PM | A +8 item for the scimitar wielder? ... when did this actually happen? Last time I looked into the Heroes' Lorebook it was a +4 mithral chainmail ... His iconic armor wash bashed all to the abyss and back in the last trilogy. He picked up the spidersilk armor from a drow he killed. |
| Zanan04-17-07, 04:30 AM | May I ask which novel and from whom? (For my NPC list et al) |
| theartistformerlyknownas04-17-07, 03:52 PM | As per the events of the latest Drizzt saga, The Hunter's Blade Trilogy, Drizzt is wearing +4 Mithral Chainmail as detailed in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting. Those stats are effective as of 1372 DR, which happens after the time of 1000 Orcs (DR 1368). As for the spidersilk shirt, I imagine he discarded it when he returned to Mithral Hall... |
| TomCosta04-17-07, 04:42 PM | That presumes that Salvatore is following what's in the FRCS and as much as I love his stuff and I don't want this to turn into a lets bash Salvatore for continuity inconsistencies or problems (because frankly its not a big enough deal to get worked up about), he's not always very good about continuity issues. The fact is that the novels were written after publication of the last trilogy, so while Drizzt and crew resembled the write ups in the FRCS prior to the novels, they do not necessarily do so at the end of the novels. Drizzt's new armor is just one case. The power of the orc leader is another (no way is he level 9 anymore or whatever he is in the FRCS). And I'd bet money he doesn't go back to the chain in the next set of books. Another is Artemis and Jarlaxle dealing with the epic or near epic leaders of Damara as equals, suggesting he's gone up a few levels since the FRCS. As for which novel in the trilogy he picked it up in, I can't recall, but he did get it off of one of the dead drow that were helping the orcs. |
| bondious04-17-07, 05:52 PM | He acquired the spidersilk shirt in "The Lone Drow" from a pair of drow who ambushed the elves that Drizzt had become allied with (though not friends quite yet). A +8 item for the scimitar wielder? ... when did this actually happen? Last time I looked into the Heroes' Lorebook it was a +4 mithral chainmail ... There's no OFFICIAL stats for this armor, only what people have come up with on their own. |

As for the armor, what's not official with the Heroes' Lorebook line listing it? A +4 mithral chainmail was not all that bad in AD&D, nor is it now. |

| King_Neckchopper04-18-07, 08:51 AM | Im pretty sure that I saw spidersilk in one of the 2nd edition books, Sorry that I cannot remember which one. I know that one of my 2nd ed. characters wore spidersilk. Unleash the fury!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!~ Tom Green: Road Trip |
| marcel_deathbringer04-18-07, 09:39 AM | I thank you all for the bits of info. you have given me. My search continues and I shall not rest until I find this armour. If I find anything I will post it. In the mean time, if you find something specific I would be greatly indebted to you if you would post it. Thanks! |
| Alurvelve04-18-07, 04:30 PM | If I remember right he got the Spidersilk shirt from the drow named Ad'non. |
| TomCosta04-18-07, 04:44 PM | I apologize. I was not clear. Spidersilk armor is officially defined in Underdark (where Salvatore presumably got the idea) and is official. (FYI, it sounds like we will see a different version of that armor based on the interview for the upcoming the non-FR specific Demonweb module to be released shortly.) I was responding more specifically to the suggestion from theartistformerlyknownas that Drizzt's stats in the FRCS are accurate through the end of the Hunter's Blade Trilogy, because the trilogy takes place prior to the dates of the FRCS. |
| Diffan04-18-07, 07:42 PM | Drizzt's stats in the FRCS are accurate through the end of the Hunter's Blade Trilogy, because the trilogy takes place prior to the dates of the FRCS. Though Drizzt's stats, feats, skills, etc... are all 3.0, which would lead me to believe that they might have changed due to the conversion. Espically his feat selection, there are at least half a dozen better feats released since FRCS came out that better illustrate his abilities and what-not. Not to mention the class substitutions for ranger in the PHB II and various source books. |
| Zanan04-19-07, 04:40 AM | The "official" stats for Drizzt's armor probably referred to this particular piece of armor rather than the official description of spidersilk. (Going by the stats, the old one was better ... and BTW, unless I am mistaken, he'd need a feat for wearing the spider silk armor, as it is exotic?) And one would doubt that the designers would hand one renegade drow chap ultra-excellent armor to be taken up by the scimitar wielder? As for levels, I'd exchange Drizzt's ranger level completely with the scout (CAdv) and would look for feats rather than the barbarian class. |
