Did the Starym Moonblade receive a 3e. update? I have Cloak and Dagger from 2e, but I don't have Volo's guide to all things Magical. Any new info would be helpful. Did the Starym Moonblade appear in any novels?

Thanks:)

VGTatM can be downloaded free at the WotC older editions site I think... don't think I recall any 3.x updates for it though. Possibly in the Magic of Faerun book, but I kinda doubt it.

Thanks Stig,

Some how I didn't think about downloading the Volo's guide. :embarrass I have Magic of Faerun and I have read it so many times that I got a second copy. The binding on my first copy is coming undone. I am pretty sure it is not in there.:)

Didn't really think it was, but it was the only place I could think it might have been... thought there might have been at least a reference to it though, as I seem to recall moonblades being mentioned in it for some reason. That could be me hallucinating again though. :D

slashing
Description: This odd weapon is a curved blade that almost makes a complete circle about 2-1/2 feet in diameter.

Er... most Moonblades were longswords (possibly Elven Thinblades if you use them, which I prefer to), a type of magical weapon used for choosing elven monarchs (simplified version, I know :P ), not a specific sort of melee weapon design, at least as they pertain to the Realms.

I do seem to recall that they were originally broadswords...:)

way back in the 1ED/2ED when the author originally wrote them up in her stories...

Keeping them as she wrote them and not changing them at a whim to "reimagine" them for each new addition not only shows the author a little deserved respect... :cheer:

but keeps players from coveting them as the new must have thing for elven wannabees. :evillaugh

I heard that she is really getting down after hearing and reading about how EVERY pc with an elf has a moonblade. :weep:

Were they broadswords? Can't say I ever used them in a campaign, so just thought they were longswords, going along with that 'to hit' bonus elves got for using them. Seem to recall the 2e illustrations showing them as longswords as well, but I can't honestly say I ever saw much 1e Realms stuff, so I'll take your word for it Selunatic. :)

This moonblade will not be any thing that the PCs want. ;) It was corrupted by the power of Moander. The members of Eldreth Veluuthra see the Starym Moonblade as the embodiment of the Victorious Blade of the People. It was lost to them many years ago and they want it back. The moonblade seeks to dominate its owner and wants to return to Eldreth Veluuthra. As the DM I will have fun with this sword.:plotting: :evillaugh :schemes:

P.S. I thought I was the bomb because I ran the same campaign for 12 years. You have been running a campaign since 1980! I was two years old when your game started. :bow::bow:  :bravo:

I do, but last time I posted stats for something out of an official publication a WizO snipped it, so I'm a bit hesitant to bother writing it. On the upside though, you can go over to the WotC free older edition download section and dl Volo's Guide To All Things Magical, it should be in the artifact section in the back of the book.
