Hi people!
During our gaming sessions drinking alcohol (well, not us in the real world, but the PC's :) ) is quite normal. The adventurers come to an inn and want to kick back and enjoy themselves, and have quite a few beverages containing alcohol.
So my request goes for some good house rules for being drunk (in various degrees) and how it would affect attack rolls, spell failure (the wizard is mumbling etc.) skills checks and so on.
If anyone out there has some good rules (I can't seem to find any in the books) I would like to hear them.
Thanks

Well, while the rules are fine for describing what penalties you get for being drunk, I still miss something for penalizing a wizard. You only get dex and wis damage with the Arms & Eq. Guide's rules. While these two definitly can incapacitate most classes, the wizard remains unscathed (i.e. he has no real use for dex and wis).

What about 5% spell failure for each time he failed a Saving Throw? Or maybe more?

When this happened in one of our games, Tifus had the spellcaster make a concentration check. He raised the DC depending on how much they had drank, and what they had drank. Made for a very funny moment, when the wizard went to cast his spell, failed the concentration check, and was told he lost it due to a massive hiccup in the middle of his incantation. :D

I dunno, those work fine for me for all classes because usually when you are drunk your dexterity goes down. I.E you have trouble walking and moving. And your wisdom goes down. I.E speech impairments, etc.

Pretty much so. It's not like one gets any dumber when drunk, it's just the brain starting to have difficulty connecting.

Something of note is that while a wizard might retain the ability to cast fireball, there's no telling -where- he's going to cast it when his Wisdom is at 2...

I beleive there was also an issue of Dragon Magazine that dealt with alcohol and its effects.

Don't recall which one though

dragon 334. Dealt with the history of alcohol, then provided with the mechanics for several different drinks with special abilities.
