| Herr Doktor12-16-03, 12:12 PM | These regional feats are hip! Too bad they seem to be implementing some sort of only one regional feat per character rule. I wonder if the big list o' regions will include the regions from the Underdark accessory. |
| Finglas Leaflock12-16-03, 04:21 PM | Well, I don't mind the restriction as much as I expected since the feats seem to be good ones so far. I've been looking forward to seeing the Harper Agent class since it was announced--looks great, but one question: What kind of saves do they get? Still good reflex and will, bad fort? |

Rich Baker mentions on the "Ask Rich Baker"-thread (page 8) that it would get good will, but bad reflex and fort. The Harper Agent looks cool, although as a player who plays one there are a couple of things I don't like: * Lose good reflex save : I think it made sense with good will and reflex (and it synergized wonderfully with my ranger/rogue/harper scout :P) * Lose favored enemy : Again, fitted well with the concept of do-gooders that fight against evil folk, like the Zhentarim and the Red Wizards of Thay On the other hand, more skill points are nice. Spellcasting that stacks with a previous class (often bard, but in my case ranger) is a so-so in my opinion. I kinda like having a few ranger spells, but also some arcane magic up my sleave :) Overall, it looses some, but gains some, thus staying mechanically at the same "powerlevel". With regards to the regional feats : They look good, but the restriction on only one per character doesn't ring well with me. In my opinion, regional feats are great flavor feats. "Luck of Heroes", "Blooded", and "Strong Soul" might not be the most powerful feats, mechanical wise, but they sure make me feel like a Dalelander :) |
| Finglas Leaflock12-16-03, 09:35 PM | Thanks, Arthedain, for the save info, I should've known that, been following the Rich Baker threads for awhile now. I pretty much agree with your review of the class, and I can understand why some abilities had to go in order to maintain balance. And the three feats you mentioned are some of my favorites, for flavor reasons in part, but I think those particular feats are pretty good mechanically, too. Improving saves, initiative, and spot checks are all very good things. :-) |

Not to de-rail the entire thread, but... With regards to the regional feats. I was perhaps a *bit* negative towards their powerlevel, and as you point out, they improve saves, initiative and spot checks, which are all very essential in most games. But, to illustrate my point better : Blooded : Probably the "best" of the three, in my opintion, but how many players have you encounter who prefer Blooded to, say, Improved Initiative? In my experience, none. Luck of Heroes : One of my players once gave me (I usually DM) a rough sketch of a character because he himself didn't have the books/knowledge at that time. I created the character, and, having one free feet, I choose Luck of Heroes. Now, in every session we have (unfortunately only 2-3 times a year) he comes with a comment on him having "Luck of Heroes". Half-jokingly, half-seriously. On another note, why does the feat give a *named* bonus. I noticed that there are several spells (Prayer comes to mind) that give luck-bonuses to saves. This kinda makes it a "weak" feat to choose, as I see it. Strong Soul : Except for one paladin, I've never had anyone take this feat. It served him well in a tight spot, so I don't think he regrets it, but for pure "power" I'm sure most players select something else. Which is kinda sad... <sigh> I guess I'll just have to use the regional feats for all they're worth on my NPC's :) |
| rob412-19-03, 12:39 PM | I may be wrong, but it looks to me like the "1 regional feat only" is a condition only of the feats listed, just like some feats you can only take at 1st level. |
