In a fit of disgust recently I decided to start tinkering with 2e again and as I hadn't gotten into FR in 2e (hated the Realms, PLANESCAPE RULZ) I have no idea about what resources are CORE for the Realms. I have a set of Core rule books and that is about it. What resources, aside from the boxed set, would you say is essential to running a GOOD FR game in 2e? WHat I am looking for are:

Kits
Monsters
NPCs
Adventures
Supplements (general, non regional)

THanks in advance...

Oh and if I have FR Adventures do I NEED the Deities books?

do I NEED the Deities books?

I would say that the 2e deities books are a worthwhile addition to any game set in the forgotten realms, regardless of what edition one might use. These books contain a huge amount of background material.

I will 2nd that the Diety books are some of the best set of supplements ever created for FR. The others would be the Volo's Guide series and the 1E grey boxed set. With just those and your standard 2E core rule books, you can run many great games.

Wait til' Kuje31 sniffs out this thread.... :D

I recommend the FR boxed set (which I picked up a little while ago...yay me) and any of the "Volo's Guides" as well as whatever you can find on the Underdark, Menzo in particular if you wanna take it in that direction.

I have Menzo, City of Splendours, Drow of the Underdark and Code of the Harpers around here so I got that covered. I hate PDFs but thanks for the link!
