Hello,

Had a question about FR in 3.5: The campaign setting book was released during 3.0. The downloadable errata makes changes from the first printing to the second. Is the second printing considered 3.5? I believe it is still 3.0...I'm sure this question gets asked a lot, but what are the changes? Are there plans to release a third print in 3.5? Thanks for the help!

The FRCS will never be updated for 3.5 since the Player's Guide to Faerun does that, as does some of the other 3.5 generic books that updated some of the prestige classes. The monster's were updated in the Player's Guide web enhancement and in other FR 3.5 sourcebooks.

Thanks for the info...as a player and not a DM, do you still think I would need the campaign setting book? (I own the 2nd ed campaign setting box). Thanks again!

In a fantasy world without television and telephones, the 2E boxed set should do you just fine. Your DM should provide whatever rumors and current events your character would know.

Sounds good...I think I'll pick up the Players Guide to Faerun then...I'm actually currently in an Eberron campaign, but FR has always been my favorite, I just haven't played it since 2nd ed (too busywith Greyhawk and now Eberron)...and since I don't like to DM often, my campaign box wasn't that useful, so I'm weary of buying things I don't need. THough Waterdeep is my favorite place in FR and I can't wait for the Waterdeep Source book coming out later this year.

The complaint ranges in the poor use of the title ("Player's Guide is supposed to be a guide for the players!"), just a rules update not an update of the Realms, not enough rules have been updated, and too expensive.

Did I miss any other complaints? Oh, yeah. The PG still require the use of the FRCS.

Even as a player? I am weary of all the things WoTC REQUIRES nowadays when TSR only use to suggest it. WOuld the 2nd ed campaign substitute? Anyone out there have both? Thank for the help!

I still prefer my 1e and 2e material and I use it way more then my 3/3.5 material. But if you have the FRCS then you don't need any of the stuff that came after that, especially if you have the older lore. :)

Faiths & Pantheons, isn't as good if you have the old deity trilogy.

Magic of Faerun, could be useful but I never hardly touch it.

Monsters of Faerun, get's brought to every game session but usually sits in my bag.

Races of Faerun is one of the best for 3/3.5 because of the expanded info on humans.

Unapproachable East and Silver Marches, mostly rehash from the old lore and 2e's were better.

Shining South and Serpent Kingdoms, not bad books and liked Serpent Kingdoms better since Shining South is partly rehash of the old lore.

Player's Guide, let's just leave this book as it annoys me and as other's will tell you it's just to much mechanics for me. It should have been called something else because it's no way a player's guide. But yes the Player's Guide still requires the FRCS.

WOTC has dropped the policy of "We will never make any books that need other books besides the core three, which are the PHB, DMG, and MM." And I for one am glad. I want to know where and what monster's exist in FR when there is a new monster book out, etc.

You see. Someone is annoyed by the mistitling of the product, which is nothing more than a rules update.

OK so if the Player's guide isn't a player's guide...and it updates the campaign setting to 3.5...but it isn't a campaign setting?...What the heck is it?!?

To me, it's a DM's Guide more then a Player's Guide. :)

When the Player's Guide says you need the FRCS, it is assuming your Dungeon Master has that book.

I do not know if Wizards will release a 3.5 FRCS. I personally think they won't, since all of the crunchy rules have been updated in the Player's Guide or are available online for download.

Yes there's a lot of DM info in the Player's Guide, but it is still a very useful player resource --it catalogs numerous Realms feats, gives a near-complete Realms spell list, revises many Realms Prestige classes, etc... and so is in my opinion very much worth purchasing by a player.

I just recieved the 3.0e FRCS and the Player's guide to Faerun yesterday from Amazon.com. I'm glad that I finally bought those two books since I recently upgraded to 3.5e from 3.0e but have been using the 2nd edition FRCS (grey box) as my reference. I'm still going to keep the Grey Box in my collection 'cause it's still usefull IMO.

Anyway, you need to buy both books in order to be up to date on the Realms. The Player's guide has a misleading name, it's more for DMs I think. Still, even as a player, owning both the books and reading them should add to the mystique of the setting.
