3.5 Frcs [Archive] - Wizards Community

07-22-04, 07:37 AM I've decided to upgrade to the 3.5 books and I was wondering if there are any plans to update the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting to 3.5? I assume the books are still being printed, since it’s such a popular setting, and I’m curious if the newer editions are unchanged or not in regards to 3.0/3.5. I know of the Player’s Guide to Faerun but I’m not sure if this book does the job or not since I haven’t had an opportunity to browse it.

The Realms books I have are the FRCS, Races of Faerun, and the Silver Marches. I believe that the Races book is considered a 3.5 product, I’m just wondering what would be the easiest way to keep my other two books up to date as far as the rules go. Right now I’m really just a player, but I don’t want to have outdated player options if they’ve now changed things I’m not aware of.

07-22-04, 09:25 AM Races of Faerūn is "almost" 3.5, while Silver Marches is mostly background information and as such it's not specifically addressed in PGtF; the monsters are converted in PGtF Web Enhancement if I recall, but for the time being you need to convert the SM prestige classes and such on your own.

Regardless, practically all the rule material in FRCS gets an update in Player's Guide, making it a must buy if it's 3.5 Realms you're after. I can't guarantee you'll be satisfied with it, but for a conversion it's essential (and in the near future the only official option).

07-22-04, 12:56 PM I didn't find the Player's Guide to Faerun that helpful. All of the basic information stayed the same about each region and the races. The only things that were really updates is basic stat information for monsters, PrCs, NPCs and a bit of spell tweaking. If you need the FRCS for more than just regional information, you might check it out, but its not a must-have.

07-22-04, 02:18 PM Player’s Guide to Faerun is your friend, if what you seek is an update. I think it actually does an excellent job of updating the rules; the other stuff is already what's contained in the books you have.

07-22-04, 02:49 PM Changes to D&D and the Forgotten Realms in 3.5 are not changes to the campaign setting, they are simply changes in the game rules.

The vast majority of text in the Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting deals with the campaign world, and alot of background information. Likewise many regional sourcebooks, while they may not always be statistically on par with 3.5, the primary purpose of those books (at least when I use them) is background information.

Thus most Sourcebooks will not be updated to 3.5, given the fact that not much other than statistics has changed in the D&D revision.

07-29-04, 03:02 PM the players guild ot f was ok. If you by any chance found a update for monsters of faerun I would love to know where you got it. I was a bit disappointed with the update as I was with some of the other updates. Book of vile darkness made some pres classes very poor.
