I'm not sure that much of this fourth edition stuff really is for you, or me, or LK, or Rhee, so I think it may be time to put your mapmaking skills to work in some fashion. |

I've decided to make the switch! :eek: No, don't panic... the worlds not about to be taken over by pod-people. :P Its just that... aside from the stuff in the GHotR... I really don't see the changes as being nearly as dramatic as we feared. I was more concerned with the geography and nations, and thats not really changing all that much. It still looks like Faerūn to me. :bored: In fact, I think they generated all this hype on purpose, because they really couldn't think of anything 'new' or creative to add, so they pasted in some Draconians and destroyed a couple of places - big whoop. The Cosmological issues are a BIG DEAL, but we can just ignore that, or work within it. Anyhow, I hope none of you feel betrayed, but look at it this way - I'm not siding with THEM; I've just realized that they aren't creative enough to actual ADD anything new. All they did was 'mess it up' a bit -- so now we have some house-cleaning to do. I've been doing that to campaign worlds for years. :rolleyes: So I hope I can still come... if you'll have me. :( |

You and I might both know it took place everywhere, on many fronts, but a lot of people didn't get that. By 'de-centralizing' the Bloodwar, they've actually embraced its true purpose. I have plenty of planescape material, don't you worry: I just think newer DMs - and even older, less savy ones - will now realize that a person doesn't NEED to travel to experience the Bloodwar; its taking place in his own backyard, ALL the time. For all we know, 'Gehenna' could just be the name of some poor Prime World that made the mistake of 'porting in' too many fiends to fight a mortal war, and now it is a dead husk of a planet, where mortals are prey and the Fiends continue the conflict without them. I find that cutting the fiends down to just two groups a bit annoying, but hopefully those 'other fiends' will still retain their original flavor, for the most part. Anyway, like I said, I think 4e is all 'smoke and mirrors' at this point - they really couldn't come up with anything great, so they just snowballed us into thinking everything was going to be different. My campaign date is only five years away from the 3e one, and 89 years away from the 4e one. By squeezing the Spellplague into five years, I get to use the new rules in the old setting, with minimal fuss. I just have to 'patch' areas where NPCs conflict - like my example above, concerning who rules Cormyr. I get to choose beteen both versions now, and use whatever I like, or come up with my own stuff. Its really not at all different from what I've been doing for years anyway. So technically, I'll be running 3.75e. ;) |

If your going to be a victim, it can happen anywhere, anytime... worrying about isn't going to prevent it. And I've also traveled through Newark a couple of times - had to take Greyhound south - and it was an 'experience', but it wasn't as bad as people say. I did have to buy that one guy a bottle, but after that I had lots of friends. ;) |

I have never seen or heard of anybody get in trouble for pumping their own gas. I have asked cops, D.A.s, lawyers, even a judge, etc and they never heard of anyone get into trouble for it. They couldn't even answear the question of who is breaking the law, the station or the customer. Your problem is not unfamilar to me...I have seen it alot. It could be a small hole in your gas system that is causing problems w/ the pressure...or it just could be the style of nozzel. It is a very annoying problem...(especialy considering that yours is most likely not the only car at the station) It was my policy if somebody wanted to pump their own gas let them. I think you'll find most places wouldn't have issues. I could probably bore everyone to tears on how to deal with it. |

The more people using the pumps, the slower the gas flows, and it doesn't trigger the shut-off response so much. I've discovered that, in order to alleviate the problem, I need to shove the nozzle in there, and then pump it slow for about a gallon or so. Then, I squeeze the trigger all the way, and it's all good. | Finglas01-30-08, 02:58 PM | Hey, Jersey ain't that bad, once you get past the refineries and stuff that Rockefeller and the other NYers foisted on us. ;) As for Newark, it's kind of nice to see people defending the place. I've worked in Newark for the past 9 years and 11 of the past 13, so my warning was half tongue-in-cheek. It has plenty to offer in terms of good food (most of it at reasonable prices), museums (well, at least one good one that I know of), and there are plenty of other things to do. And to anyone who follows hockey, Barry Melrose was out of line to say what he said without ever even being here--the area around the arena is actually fine on a game night. There are plenty of cops and lots of other people around, so I wouldn't worry too much about walking around, stopping for dinner, and catching a game. And I agree with what Rinonalyrna and Markus said, bad things can happen anywhere, not just in inner cities. However (and who didn't see a but coming :) ), you do really have to be careful, especially at night after rush hour is over. Certain areas are pretty safe, but like in many cities, if you're unfamiliar or only somewhat familiar with the area, it's hard to know which areas those might be. And while the new hockey arena, the performing arts center, etc. are good for the place, murders and gang violence are pretty rampant and getting worse. In terms of the city's future, things could really break either way, and I'm really, really hoping it gets better. But it is very different, IMO, than it was 7 or 8 years ago when the economy was booming. Anyway, enough out of me, especially about serious RL matters. And our get-together is in Florham Park, not Brick City, so the point is moot. Hope everyone can make it on Saturday! Should be interesting to see what kind of stuff everyone brings (and if anyone does bring candy or other sweets, I will gladly pitch in--nobody should have to eat alone ;) ). |
