6th lvl Druid trying to awaken his companion [Archive] - Wizards Community

I have a druid called Norogrom living in the Forgotten Realms.
Our party is at Lyrabar at the moment. For roleplaying matters, our DM
has set there a great mage academy with high level people and such.
I have a snake as an animal companion (boa constrictor 6 HD) and
I always wanted to awaken him. Unfortunately I'm just about 6th level
and "Awaken" is nothing less of a 5th level druidic spell.
A scroll of awakening would cost about
1650 (5th level divine) + 1250 (PX * 5) MO = 2900 MO
and i have 2000 MO + 1000 MO in magical items
But there is no druid able to cast "such high level spell" at Lyrabar,
the only renown one is the opposite way in the forests of the East,
while we are travelling to WestGate.

My question is:
can you suggest alternative ways to have my companion awaken?

Is it reasonable to:
1) pay a mage to summon a demon/celestial/whatever and trading
the awakening for something? (Magic items, gold, favor)
BTW is there any superior being actually able to cast druidic spells?
2) pay a mage to summon a druid who can handle the job?

whenever he can? (and viceversa of course)
After all I've been his lord for such a long time.
And now I give him freedom. Well, yes, to give freedom to a 6 HD concious
boa constrictor inside a small city may be a non-lawful act, but as I'm
neutral I think he can give himself rules if he wants to.
I've always been right to him, and if he wants to leave me then he is
free to do it.

Norogrom is an Apep worshipper, the Serpent of Chaos in the Aegyptian
mythology. Wouldn't sound strange to me if Norogrom wants his boa
Shoma to become a concious being.

The Awakened animal will be a NPC under the DM's control.
I might require you to take the Leadership feat and take the snake as a cohort.

As a player, I'd forget about the mages. Summon Druid is not on a wizards spell list.

Seek out a Druid or druid circle for yourself.
Like the Emerald Enclave on the Eyes of Silvanus, Vilhon Reach area.
