Soon I'll be joining up with a new campaign in FR. I usually like to play very creative characters. I need help inventing a new one. Im thinking a half one race/half another race. And any other interesting info. I want this to be the most unique character that has ever been played. ANy SUGGESTIONS PLEASE.

A half-dragon/half-gnoll with a demon lord in his ancestry is a pretty weird character. that's not the best i got. I just need to think this some.

Half man, half dog ... a weredog! Er...

A dwarf/gnome, is that a gnarf or a dwome?

As long as it's not a half-ogre, half-elf with the strengths of both and none of the weaknesses of either, it should be fine.

Remember that given an interesting background and personality, even the mundane human can be quite unique.

Half man, half dog ... a weredog! Er... I would rather say half halfling, half giraffe... a waregiraffe - then the party will also have a scout.. ;)
perhaps even a weregiraffe/half-golddragon...

Remember that given an interesting background and personality, even the mundane human can be quite unique.
Returning to the serious side, I would say that this is here, the true part of uniqueness lie... Sine as unique, as an Astra Deva/half-fiend might be, it is not even sighty unique - with out a good background.
as for a unique background... how about something like you were sent back in time as an infant by you father, with a mission to find and slay you fathers father.. ?

Hmm...Half Ghast/Half Troglodyte Barb (not that's one smelly barbarian :D )

Or...Half Ettin/Half Kenku Fighter (Grapple monkey) - C'mon a marginally feathered, flightless, two slightly beak-headed, knuckle draggin' Grapple monkey brings to mind a rather ridiculously funny visual, does it not? ;) Besides it would be hilarious when he tries to "hatch" the eggs that his fellow adventurers were going to eat for breakfast (or that "Mama" black dragon planned to hatch herself)...

Or...(the serious suggestion) Half Vampire/Half Skulk Rogue (maybe Assassin later as well). That could be one helluva stealthy character.

Cheers,

In Shining South there is mention of a group of gnomish were-moles. You could probably do something with that.

Half dwarf/ half elf with class levels in the PrC bladesinger/battlerager.

can you see it? Stocky, but tall and angular. Flowing robes glittering with magic under stinky spiked armor. Singing your battle rager song in *ELVISH*?!?!

talk about not being accepted in either parent's home.

Here's another :

A quickling paladin with giant turtle as a bonded mount.

One more rather twisted thought...

Permanently reduced Half Gnome/Half Imp Illusionist...So he/she would either be tiny or diminutive, not sure if we are rounding down or up ;). You'd never want to melee and if you get grappled you're probably gonna die, but that's the price you'd have to pay for being a tremendously annoying prankster :D .

But think about its armor class and the money you will save on weapons and armor. If it costs double for large, wouldn't it be half for tiny and 1/4 for diminuitive. Behold My +5 Fortification, Heavy mithril chainshirt that i bought for 25000 gps.

How about just a plain old regular human fighter. Do we really see them any more?
maynardjkeenan

04-12-05, 07:01 AM
No. Human fighters are mere legends these days. Mystical creatures long lost in time. Actually, a guy in my group is a 4th level human fighter. My group isn't that "half-dragon, half-halfelf, half-birch, vampiric, demifart" kinda group though, so we acctually have people without prcs, they just roleplay... Shocking, I know..

I know what you mean Maynard, personally I have only played in one campaign that was "that peculiar"...and it was tame by comparison. It was an old school campaign and I ran an Ogre fighter (Complete Book of Humanoids), a female drow witch (class from an old Dragon mag), and an evil human ranger (hunstman). There was also a half-orc, a goblin (briefly), and a minotaur in the group. Plus my huntsman had a bunch of lackeys (sort of like a small mercenary company) that consisted primarily of humans (there might have been one half-elf). That's the strangest group I've ever played in, and one of the few evil campaigns that I played in for an extended period of time.
As a DM, I try to encourage the players to play groups that are primarily human, with perhaps 1 fairly normal non-human (like an elf, dwarf, halfling, half-orc, etc). and perhaps 1 more odd member (Anything w/ an LA). For example, the main group I currently DM for (but am taking a break atm) consists of 3 humans, 1 elf (though the player is thinking of changing characters any may play a human instead), and 1 orog. That's just my preference as I am running a Homebrew/FR campaign in which humans are certainly the most common race amongst the population as a whole.

On the other hand, if it makes sense for the campaign (like having all the PCs play drow, duergar, or svirneblin in an underdark campaign) then I would say go for it.

I agree. you want a UNIQUE char? then do up a normal charcter with an intresting story, doin't just create some special race'd char. 99% of the time this results in someone who is using that as a crutch for an inability to roleplay I've found

I'm not big on half-this half-that, because I believe plot mostly defines how unique a character is, but I can give you a few ideas based on PCs or NPCs I've known in the past:

An ancient half-celestial half-sarruhk who fought to free the people that his own race enslaved.

An elf-hating human elitist who is slain by elves, later to be brought back via a reincarnate spell as an elf.

An aasimar psion, decendant of a psionic couatl, whose iridescent scales and psychic powers make him an oddity in public.

An orphaned sun elf barbarian who was abandoned in the wild as a child, later to rediscover her sophisticated kin.

A cleric of a presently dead deity, freed from an imprisonment spell recently, in which he/she had remained for hundreds of years.

A half-dragon ranger, determined to slay her green dragon parent.

A half-illithid half-drow, whose brilliant cunning leads to the deaths of his mind flayer masters.

That's all I could come up with right now. Hope they help to inspire. ;)

A cleric of a presently dead deity, freed from an imprisonment spell recently, in which he/she had remained for hundreds of years.another good one... it would be interesting dealing with spellcasting issues. It doesn't even have to be an imprisonment spell. It could be a cleric who was turned to stone by a Basalisk deep in a cave... hundreds of years later, some adventurers discover the cave, and cast "stone to flesh"

I played Theronius Elf Friend, a half-orc cleric of Corellion. I could not cast spells, but I would spend my money on wands and scrolls to "Cast" spells. I finally died at 7th level and was brought back as an elf by my wood elf druid friend.

An orphaned sun elf barbarian who was abandoned in the wild as a child, later to rediscover her sophisticated kin.

Found by a female moon elf during an archeological dig in the Chondlewood.
This moon elf female, Jane (or Ursula), talks this barbarian to return back to Evermeet. :D

I played Theronius Elf Friend, a half-orc cleric of Corellion. I could not cast spells, ....

By the RAW, Corellion does not have a restriction on the race of his clerics in the Realms, so (I repeat by the RAW even if fluff seams unlikely) your half orc cleric would receive spells.

In truth, I like the idea, and credit you as a role player for choosing to play character so handicapped.

Right after savage species was released, I played in a group consisting of an Incubus (male sucubus), a genie, a pixie, a medusa and a flesh golem.

We were bound creatures to a wizard who lived in the middle of the desert, and the game started with him being killed and finding ourselves free.

Game didnt last long enough to get into actual class levels, some random loot made us all decide to retire.

We found a decanter of endless water, and a scroll of plant growth.
(which at the beginning really torqued us off, till we realized what it was worth)

Set up shop on a caravan route, and we were made. Bring in some earth and seeds and you have an instant oasis. What kind of bandits are going to mess with a group like that?

The next game we started was just as fun, 3 human barbarians and 1 human druid......

An interesting character thought.... claustrophobic dwarf..... may seem like a cheesy back story as a reason to become an adventurer, until the party hits its first dungeon and the dwarf refuses to enter... :D :D

Or an elf thats afraid of magic, and is paranoid every time the wizard/cleric casts a spell its gonna turn him into a dwarf....

I think what makes a character intresting/unique is the character development, not the race/class combo.

Half-troll/half-green dragon/half-iron golem. It can be done. Born half-dragon troll and later had the half-golem template applied. Immune to acid, absorbs fire, and takes no other damage, because to a creature with regeneration, most damage is nonlethal, which constructs are immune to. Sure you wouldn't have much of an Int (if any...), but it would be interesting to see how many druids suddenly appeared with Rusting Grasp prepared for the day. :P
Yokinobu

04-15-05, 01:36 AM
Thats great and everything, but technically it's impossible, since the half-golem template can't be applied to dragon types, which the half-dragon half-troll would be because of the inherited template.
