| Lord Kellnor11-29-04, 12:13 PM | Hello Everybody I'm going to be the DM of an single-adventure for our epic rouge, lvl 23. I was wondering if you guys and/or girls here on these boards have any ideas of how to make a fitting challenge for such a character!? I had this off-shot thought of sending the rouge off to some other world, where the mood/geography/setting would be somewhat similar to the Darksun campaign setting. The reason for this would be to put the rouge in a very non-familiar environment - which should add to the challenge. Now, to make a long story short - any input/ideas/plots/plans you have would be very appreciated, ALSO if it doesn't incorporate my preliminary thoughts on setting! - Lord Kellnor |
| Draco Strang11-29-04, 12:19 PM | Send his ass plane hopping. Or, have him face off against other high level rogues in a chase for a treasure, ala "Ratrace". |
| Cunning Linguist11-29-04, 12:34 PM | For epic games, Underdark is a perfect place. If you want something darksun'ish perhaps you should put him in some far away desert? For a epic rouge challange: The Garrote have just lost a few of there best assassins, and are seeking out a few new members. This information has been spreed among the guilds across faerun, and several of the "best" rogue of Aber Toril has come to try out. There will be several tests, and a score chart. Who can sneek into and out of a room of beholders with a suite of bells? Who can open DC 50 lock? Monster hunting and so on. All held in some wast underdark cave. The head honcos will be there, perhaps they even show of some of there skill and put the rest of the group in awe over what they can do. To spice it all up, there might be a murder... or perhaps something goes wrong? Sabotage? Perhaps the some of the greater gods decide to take out the entire garroth once and for all, and send some vile creatures to the testing ground? |
| Lord Kellnor11-29-04, 12:41 PM | The reason for sending the rouge to another world is to prevent that she teleports to safety via magic items or scrolls. I would like to challenge the rouge by putting her in an environment where she cannot easily draw upon her allies, other party members, go to a safe house and so on. Thanks for the ideas - keep em' coming everybody. The more the merrier! :D - Lord Kellnor |
| CzarGarrett11-29-04, 12:56 PM | Here's a challenge- learn how to spell the damned class name properly. ROGUE its not that difficult. |
| Lord Kellnor11-29-04, 01:17 PM | No....no, I'm sorry, thats not a good idea CzarGarrett - i don't think that'll work. Try harder please! - Lord Kellnor |
| EmeraldFox11-29-04, 04:13 PM | Here's a challenge- learn how to spell the damned class name properly. ROGUE its not that difficult. The most annoying part is when they pronounce it wrong, and admonish you when you try and correct them. Anyways... I don't know what kind of rogue you are, so maybe you can tell us that. If you're a theif kind of rogue, a good place is probably Sigil. It's on another plane, and an epic rogue could do a lot of damage there, not literally of course. |
| WizO_BigSister11-29-04, 06:54 PM | Hey guys ... you aren't allowed to harass other posters even if they do spell some words wrong. |
| Erianys Coldrage11-29-04, 08:08 PM | i guess if you want to challenge your rogue an epic rogue//mage maybe good or take the epic level handbook. or if you want to kill him i think an undead can do that hes immun to most thing to rogue can do, a char with a heavy fortification armor can do it too, if the rogue tend to use sneak attack as his primary attack. here a challenge page: 227 of epic level handbook; winterwight undead CR 23. it should be a great challenge for a rogue not impossible(well maybe) well most of the time a level 23 char should do it |
| Lord Kellnor11-30-04, 09:46 AM | The rogue in our party (See, I got it right this time :D :-) is very all-round, although she probably specializes in scouting. She's CG in alignment and is pretty nicely equiped with magic items. The undead part is no go, 'cause she can use her sneakattack vs. undead following a semi-divine wish. I can easily come up with a villain of some sort that will challenge her, but what I am more interested in is your plot-ideas (they are allowed to be wickedly evil of course :-) Keep the replies coming! - Lord Kellnor |
| Cunning Linguist11-30-04, 11:21 AM | During a night off, the party learns about a Island of Mecha. A old Netheril Wizard once buildt the Island for his work with golems and constructs, but now he is dead and all his creations still walk the island. To prevent the golems from talking over the island, he created 3 distinct races of golems, each of them going to war with each other all the time. The golems where designed to grow with each fight and become better fighters.. 1700 years later, the fighting is still going on, and now the golems are purebreed killingmachines. Why would the PC's go here? It is said that the golem master made a storage of weapons that he could use against his constructions if they where ever to turn on him. A whole armory of golem destroying weapons worth a kings ransom. |
| Lord Kellnor12-01-04, 04:09 AM | That's a really cool idea Cunning Linguist! And it's adaptable to another world/plane/existence or whatever I come up with. But it's only the rogue that will be going on this adventure. Any ideas on how to challenge the golems - cause in an up-front fight, her capabilities against a golem is somewhat reduced. What CR should a golem have to be adequate (sp?) for a 24. level rogue!? - Lord Kellnor |
| Cunning Linguist12-01-04, 10:27 AM | Well, sneeking would be alfa-omega for this person if she left alone. It could be a stand alone adventure if you angle it into a mission for someone, and it's on a "need-to-know" basis for doing it. Let's say a Solar comes along and says he needs the Hammer of Gildamar, since a sentient colossus adamantine golem was about to attack some holy base. But the island is guarded against outsiders, so he can't get in. But he also can't telle anyone else, or the people who own the colossus adamantine golem could try to get it, and if they did, all hope is lost. So she needs to do this alone. CR/XP vise I think i'd give a 25% boost for each golem taken down alone. I'd also try to keep it at about CR 15-20, since these golems can take alot of beating. |
| Lord Kellnor12-01-04, 10:37 AM | Now since your obviously in a very creative mood today Cunning Linguist ( :D ), could you perhaps envision a way of fitting your cool plot idea into my rant about a acrid-desert otherworldly scheme? It's mostly to prevent her (the rogue) from just teleporting out when it gets a little tough. And because I have a really nice idea of the setting.... So, if you would lend me a little of your imagination, I shall be in your debt! - Lord Kellnor |
| Cunning Linguist12-01-04, 11:52 AM | You could place it in the underdark. Faerzress would prevent any teleporting. If you want it to be acrid-deserty for the looks.. well.. under a desert there could be a wast cavern where there has been draining sand into. Perhaps the golem maker made a artifical sun of some kind. If Faerzress does not cut it, perhaps putting in some major wardings around the "island" and locking it up after she enters? |
| Iegan12-01-04, 05:35 PM | What if Beige and Magenta flank him and get sneak attacks? :rimshot: |
