ok, here is the skinny of it. several friends of mine and i have been playing D&D for quite some time now. things have gotten a little bit boring. SO! i told them that we would be taking a large break for now and that within this break i was going to devise an amazing story line. so i really steped up to the plate with this one but i am having a little bit of trouble and could use some really good ideas.

so far what i have is all the character will be starting off in priador. one of the civil govenors of the thayan empire will be running a major slavery trade out of this town. i will have the characthers somehow find this out. in the process i will try to recruit them into an extremely large resistance that plans on stoping all slave trade and any other meens of income for thay. this resistance will attempt to over-run and crush the thayan empire.

Because this kinda classic adventures bore pcs. I had an epic campaign which I always wanted to DM, but couldn't find anyone to DM, so I share my idea with you:

Story begins within the Anauroch, the big desert. the pcs meet an arcanist (LN unknown gender unknown race Arcanist 30 / Archmage 5) called Terraseer. He is a mystery guy and the pcs can't even see his face. He tells that he is assigned by mystra herself (we don't know if he's a choosen) to tell pcs about the quest. He tells that they've choosen on this job which is very difficult. They'll be sent back to netheril and stop karsus from casting the spell "karsus's avatar" ( you can find it in http://boards1.wizards.com/showthre...3094#post903094) They are going back to 3185 NY. Since, karsus's CR is 41 (bigger then el ) this is an epic game. But in 3185 NY, karsus is 22 years old and his CR is 23. When they kill karsus, they come back to anauroch, and see that karsus reincarnated himself and become a demilich. The sword coast north, northeren hearthlands, hearthlands, waterdeep, dales, sword coast is ruled by Netheril. Choosen's of the good gods are always fighting, (to make it tragic, you can kill elminster) There is a little to do. Karsus wants a revange, and they meet again . . . ( I got the story from Command and Conquer, red alert)

This is a tough one, but fun to both play and DM. For purposes of RPing marching hordes' wars, check the DMG.

You can make Karsus CE Male Demilich (human) Arcanist36/ Archmage 5

Hehe! My current story arc involves workink with Thay to liberate Unther, crush Mulhorand and set them up as puppet states of Thay with the pcs in High positions of Power. :D

As I develop my arc I will throw any stuff that might help your way. So far I have some Thayan Mercenary Companies (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=172439), anti slavery Privateers (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=169768) , and Mulhorandi Adventurers (http://boards1.wizards.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=169764) .

The best advice I can give you about your great campaign is to keep your villans smart and your info scarce.

A villan isn't a moron. If he was, he wouldn't have gotten himself to where he is now. Play him smartly. Have him use servants, escape routs, bribery, assassins, and most importantly is false info.

Never forget the saying, 'Just because you heard it, doesnt mean it's true.'

Throw a scrap of truth into a mountain of lies. Especially with a Thayan slavery ring, he will have paid well to keep the town guards lips sealed. He will have sown lies and deciet to keep his activities hidden. Rumors can work wonders for a DM, and keep the party on their toes.

thank you for your information, some of it will be a little bit of use. but what i am really looking for is a very broad topic to trow into the mix of things. i have slavery, rebelion, betrayal, confustion, etc. i have been planning this campaign for about 4 and a half months now. i have written out 13 pages of just general information about all of my plots. i have to do a lot of generalizing because the group that i am with will not take to likely to great detail if it is written down so i have to wing the minor details. but i need something for the end. i have the villan connected to the thayan empire so once they take him out i will have them go from city to city, contry to contry taking out other thayan cells. then once all of that is done it will be an all out war between the resistance and thayan empire. im about half way done building the thayan army and completed the risistance. but i need some ideas on how to end the battle. there are so many ideas.

ok-if you were in my game and you were in an epic battle, what type of things would you like to see go down?

"dam im glad i have alot of free time :D "

The best thing in the world is a good foil. A villian who is smart, opportunistic, and doesn't mind retreating to fight another day. Make it someone the PC's really hate. One of my favorite villians was an NPC who the PC's hired. He betrayed them and stole some valuables that they had looted from a tomb. He used those items to make himself more powerful and harrassed the PC's. They really hated him--when they finally killed him they didn't care about his loot, or if they leveled, just that he was dead.

Whatever you do, let the PC's determine the scope and scale of the campaign. If they want to be military leaders in battles of epic scale or if they want to fight the solitary dragon by the end of the campaign, that's their decision--you just try to make it happen so it makes sense.
