| Jonman9912-18-04, 11:31 AM | I'm currently searching for a location to start my FR campaign in. I'm specifically looking for a small village with something interesting about it. Something unique. I'd prefer that it was documented in the FR Book Any ideas? I need an area...once I get one..the creative juices start flowing for the plot and such. Any ideas guys? |

| Lashan12-20-04, 06:55 AM | I believe that the Dalelands are the best starting area, in my humble opinion. |
| warlockco12-20-04, 06:58 AM | If you have access to 1E or 2E material, Daggerford (The North boxed set 2E or N5 Under Illefarn module 1E) is a small town just south of Waterdeep, that is fairly well detailed in either of those two sources. Also, what part of the Realms do you want to base your Campaign out of? |
| Faraer12-20-04, 11:35 AM | You have one right in the FRCS: Ashabenford in Mistledale. The Dales are the heart of the Realms, and I'd choose no other region for a first campaign. |
| Petrankov12-20-04, 11:38 AM | How about Tantras or Raven's Bluff? Big cities no one ever seems to talk about. |

I'm going through the same thing right now, trying to select a good location for kicking off a new FR campaign. However my knowledge of the realms is quite limited, so I wanted to chose a place that was not too detailed in the source material to avoid "mistakes" and give me a chance to develop the area. I also wanted a place near forest, mountains, and water to have the most options for adventures. And, I don't want a bunch of uber-NPCs around to overshadow the characters. The PCs will become the heroes. I think I've settled on the Aglarond region. It only has a couple of pages detailed in the FRCS; really one page if you remove the entry for The Simbul. There is an interesting little spot between the Yuirwood and the Tannath mountains, just south of Emmech, which would be the perfect spot for a small mining village or hamlet to base the campaign from. It has all the locations I mentioned above for adventuring. And the Red Wizards are just to the east, and will be causing a lot of trouble for the characters. :) Does anyone know the name of the river that terminates at Emmech? It's not shown on the map. Cheers, Steven |
| The Black Note12-22-04, 01:32 PM | In the Silver Marches, a cold and and rare place near Silverymoon is the village os DEADSNOWS. This place is the perfect one, its one of the targets os the orc army of the King Obuld Many Arrows, also the demand osf gold makes this place a pefect spot for adeventurers and heroes. The snows, the orcs armies and one of the entences to the Underdark (and exit from Menxoberranzan takes place near this place) makes this place full of adventure. |
| AvengedMutablegenus12-22-04, 11:15 PM | The dales are nice, but i find that it doesn't truly give you enough crawlspace to develop a beleivable story on how the party came to be, I love Waterdeep, so you could do it there, it's nice :-D |
| Anias SoulStealer12-23-04, 09:25 PM | It all really depends on what you want to do with your campaign. There are dozens of small villages that may suit your intrest but it is really what is going to be the main basis for your campaign. If you would post this then I would be able to offer more help. |
| Jonman9912-23-04, 10:37 PM | I have only a few ideas on the campaign's plot but I know a few rough details. The land that the pcs are in is currently expeirencing a war with hordes of humanoids attacking. The king has fled to the west or wheerever, where the real battle is leading his troops. The first adventure which I am working on, involes a few enemy survivors of a battle, taking over parts of a small village and barricading themselves in. |
| GothicDan12-23-04, 10:51 PM | Aglarond is actually pretty well detailed, and it's home to one of the most powerful spellcasters in the Realms: The Simbul. And Aglarond is explained in the Unapproachable East (3E) and Spellbound (2E). I'm sure other more knowledgeable sages here can give other sources in which it's been detailed, but, in truth, compared to other FR regions, it's been pretty thoroughly explored. |

| Lashan12-24-04, 09:17 AM | If you are wanting to play in the middle of a war vs a bunch of humanoids, then I suggest Cormyr during the recent conflict. King Azoun even dies. Look for Volo's Guide of Cormyr on that free download page. |
| Drow Will Rule The World12-24-04, 11:01 AM | I still think the most options for a new campaign is in the North (Silver Marches). There are tons of frontier towns, plus several large cities, plus a constant source of 'bad guys'. Orcs, goblins, giants, evil humans (including a recent settlement of people from Zhentil Keep), trolls, dragons, etc - and a ton of great venues (High Forest, Trollmoors, Spine of the World Mountains, Cold Forest, etc.). I really like starting here! |
