Well anyways, I picked up d20 Modern (for weeks where I get writer's block when planning FR sessions) as an impulse buy the other day and was talking to one of my players about it and the question of how Faerūn would be a couple centuries later, like say in the 1900s DR? One of the funnier comments in the conversation came from my player who said Gond would become the deity to worship and the capital of Toril would become Lantan. What do you guys think? Any ideas about what would happen? Opinions on how ludicrous this idea is? **shrugs**

Download (http://www.geocities.com/kuje31/) Kuje's file of Ed Greenwood's candlekeep.com postings and search for 'So let me just answer by saying what I’d do, if as DM I was setting up a far-future Realms campaign.' as well as 'Lantan'.

The Realms has been technologically fairly stable for hundreds of years, and it would be wrong to assume modern technology would develop as it has in our world, or at all.

You can also head over to Candlekeep.com to discuss novels. :) And thanks Faraer :)

Sweet, you can't beat Greenwood with all things FR. Thanks for the link.

If you want to talk obsurdity. One time I ran a quest where characters were warped by a portal into the future. Elminister picks them up in a limmo and takes them to Silverymoon. Which looks like a modern day city like Sacramento, CA. It was fun. I basically said to the characters that things advanced to today. Now there were modern countries and elves and dwarves were still around but they coexisted in the modern cities. Waterdeep was like San Francisco with a big suspension bridge ;)

Overall, my point is, Roleplaying is what you make of it. You can take any campaign setting and turn it into whatever you want. You don't have to follow any "rules". RPGing is about having fun and telling storries.

It's all well and good with what you said..but it is more practical to have some mechanics to back it up in this game or it would be some lame "LARP"..and this isn't that kind of world.
