I am thinking about DMing a Underdark Campaign and one of my player said, I want it to have a good backstory & really good roleplaying.

Okey, the basics are:

-I got a party that looks like this:
Female Moon Elf Rogue, Male Moon Elf Knight & Male Drow Rogue (wants to be an assassin later)

-I was thinking about making the campaign happen in Waterdeep, Silver Marches and ofcourse the Underdark

-I want to have a drow manipulater as a villian and there is one other who looks good all the campaign until he betrays the party in the end...

So mainly I am asking:
1. What kinds of ideas you have to make a party of Moon Elf thief, knight & a Drow Rogue (and then Rogue/Assassin) go into the Underdark???
2. And why should a evil drow rogue be following a Good Moon Elf thief and a Lawful Neutral Knight around???

Please give me some good ideas...

Thanks in advance,
-Garidas

some woefully powerful artifact/person or a quest to save some elven realms from attack

To steal said Item or to take the person and ransom person or hes try to be a 'drizzt'

Thanks for the reply.

Well, the artifact sounds good and saving the elven realm...

Otherwise, about the drow , he can not be trying to be a "Drizzt". But stealing the item or kidnap a person for ransom sounds good.

If anyone gots something good, please tell me about it....

Well, the drow rogue could be a follower of the drow god of intrigue, drow males and theivery, Vhaeraun, who's goals are to unify the elven races, have the drow return to the surface and kill his mother, Lolth. If Vhaeraun were this drow rogue's deity, he probably wouldn't have a lot of problems working with surface elves, but I bet he'd betray them to save his own skin if the group was ever captured by drow.

You can make up any reason for them to go into the Uniderdark. Maybe some Lolthite drow raided the moon elves community and slaughtered nearly all the elves in the village and took the others as slaves and sacrifices that they'll kill later and offer to Lolth.
Maybe the drow rogue's been sent to assist the elves in their act of revenge and rescue mission by a cleric of Vhaeraun in order to foster better relationships with surface elves, let them know that not all drow hate surface elves and to be a guide for them in the Underdark (assuming that the drow rogue once lived in the Underdark and later came to the surface where he now lives in a Vhaeraunite drow settlement in the woods that's close to where the moon elves lived).

Im not sure how your campaign is going but if you are having trouble at the start just coming up with the campaign concept you might want to rethink trying to figure out how to fit a drow in with surface elves. Though all novels and alot of Players of Dungeons and dragons like to make it out like Dark Elves are well recieved on the surface that isn't so.

I would accomplish some intrigue as follows. Somehow the dark elf has managed to come across a way to disguise his heritage. Has managed to dupe the Two surface elves into allowing him to tag along. Reason being he is trying to learn something very important. Now whether he is a lone dark elf questing for power or just how best to survive it is a better way to mix the dark elf with the other two PC's.

Just my opinion.

Well. I read the "lost Empires of Faerun" and Myth Drannor was recantly retaken my the elves from the drow. Srinshee holds the King Moon blade but two other important ones where taken by drow into the Undeark. The elves could be searching for one of these blades, so that they use the magic of the other blades to contact Srinshee because she is the wielder of the Crown Blade and rightful ruler of Myth Drannor.

The drow could be a Vhae follower, sent to invistagate and help them. So that he can later hinder them, and prevent them from find these blades.

Let us remember than even Drizzt is mistrusted, and he was advised at first to hide his features in the cities, or... bad things could happen.

Have you considered making them all prisoners/slaves in the underdark, after being caught somehow - on the road, during an adventure, as a payback from some offended noble

Would like to think this would be a given but most posts I have seen etc have dark elves running rough shod all over the realms and being recieved into citys that not even a Human can walk the streets without trouble let alone one of the supposed most feared and hated races in the realms.

I know what your saying though /bow

The most obvious thing that will bring the two Rogues together is a common Mercantile Company (aka Thieves Guild). The Knight could be one of its Lawful enforcers.

As you would say (or Gothicdan, or Karsus)... The DM is to blame when he/she make things a bit easy for drow pc. There IS places where nobody give a damn about drow for sure, I bet - like Thay or Amn. But most place, you will at the very least be misstrusted.

Let's note also that Half-orcs, Half-ogres, Tieflings, etc,. should recieve similar treatments, by the way - a fact also frequently missed.

It's an hard bit, playing such races - but the difficulties in-game are a part of it. Never played such thing (in tabletop rpg at least), albeit I had an ilmateran cleric who had a Christ-like open-mindness and ended helping eilistreanites.
