| Autosponge04-15-04, 11:53 PM | Tell the DM your characters are leaving town and finding easier work that pays. Then take English as a Second Language at your local secondary education facility. |
| Tempus66504-16-04, 01:25 AM | If the other PC´s have low Intelligence, it makes perfect sense. Otherwise it doesn´t. Of course, I´m not surprised a Stormlord would wanna wreck the place. Try alarming the local authorities before anything happens, and they just might come to calm the PC´s down. |
| treeandswordmetal04-18-04, 02:27 AM | first of all, you should really werk on$ yewer gtypi ng zkillz. I had to re-read your entry twice, so I figured for that work I might as well answer. Then, you should realize this: you cant blow up a freaking building in anything but an action movie and walk away. your worried about alerting local zhents and pallies? how about local militia, Harpers, and not to mention ruining you reputation. people dont solve problems by blowing up buildings and live to tell of it. unless your like freakin elminster or something. :b: |
| Nyat04-18-04, 03:27 AM | Woodrow here has posted the events without mentioning everything. (yes we do play in the same group) First of all this campaign just started, and we are all level 12. We all came to this town in the serpant hills because a call for adventurers was made, so only a few of us know each other. None of us know Woodrow's character though, who I should mention is a Ninja from the new dragon. The Stormlord quickly establishes herself as leader of the group, a large part of that is because she could beat any of the rest of us into the ground. When we encountered a merchant caravan camping on the ouskirts of the town we found that the one who had hired us was now a wanted fugitive. As we left the camp a gnome approached one of the party members and gave him a glove, saying that he had dropped it. The character soon figured out that it was a glove of storing, inside was a note from the one who had hired us. It gave some insight as to what was going on. Zhentarim had killed the Mayors family and now use him as a puppet, it also gives a list of people to be suspicious of. Our leader, the stormlord has us camp just outside town, and then sends two of the party members in to get information on all the people on the list, and then sends the Ninja (Woodrow) to track down a Yuan-ti priest that operates in or around the town, since she is CE she basicly says, come back with the Yuan-ti or your better off just not coming back. Two days later the Ninja is still not back. The next morning he comes back with a Zhentarim wizard, who dismisses a dominate spell that was on him, and then leaves. The Ninja then bluffes us into thinking that he has no memory of being dominated, fair enough, he still doesnt have the Yuan-ti though, so he goes running back to find the Yuan-ti after he refuses to give in to a detect thought spell. My character then begins to think, "Hmmm, he has no memory of being dominated, clearly his memory was wiped. But wait a minute, when he came back the Zhent wizard never cast a spell on him to wipe his memory. So that means he was walking back to the encampment with a Zhent wizard, and still remembers it. And why would a Zhent wizard willingly give up a dominated person so easily, obviously they had a deal." The next day he returns with the head of the Yuan-ti. So then we decide to go into town. First we decide to go to the mansion because when I had sent my air elemental familiar to scout the town he had hit something around the mansion and nearly died, and I wanted to find out what. As we go into the town the Ninja goes ahead by a few rounds. Unbenownst to the rest of us, he then telepethicly talked through a ring to the person that had made a deal with the Zhents to get him free. This mystery person told him that we shouldnt go after the Mansion because it has three powerful mages in it. The Ninja then tells us about these mages. I cast detect magic to see that, yes, there is a magical force around the mansion. I then tell the Ninja to try to run etheraly through the walls around the mansion, he tries, and runs smack into a forbiddance spell. I thank him for his help in figuring out exactly what the spell is and we go to a bar to discuss things. The Stormlord then casts a Zone of Truth. She then ask the Ninja how he could have learned about the powerful Zhentarim mages by walking around outside, since there is no way he could have gone inside because he didnt have enough time, and because there was the forbiddance spell. He then says that it was a voice in his head... He wonders why we should be suspicious of the Ninja, which our character would think of as an oddly dressed rogue (not always the most trustworthy people) with some odd powers, after the Ninja walked back to us with a Zhentarim mage (whom we dont really like) that willingly gave up a dominated person (clearly a deal with the Zhents), and then when we consider assaulting the mansion he starts (as far as we can tell) making things up to scare us away from doing such a thing. Despite what Woodrow said, we dont know how powerful the Zhentarim forces are here, somebody who could very well be working for the Zhentarim told him something, and he seems to think it must be true. As for attacking the mansion, that is mainly to take a swing at the Zhents. Our group has a very heavy leaning to chaotic, with our leader being evil. The Stormlord decided that we are going to be hurting the Zhents, so we are. We won't be attacking the mansion any time soon, we are going off on a quest into the High Moor. When we come back we probably will attack the mansion though. We plan on using tactics for such a thing, like attacking at night, using Control Winds to tear down the mansion with hurricane speed winds, and then nuking any survivers from afar (we have two arcane caster, and then the stormlord). The Paladin probably wont like it, but we dont really give a fig what the paladin thinks, and the town milita? If they try to mess with us they will become very crispy, very fast. And of course it is very in character for the Stormlord to want to destroy the mansion and those damn Lawful Zhents. Woodrow was also misleading about the Augary. The exact wording was "Will I find anything within the mansion that will help to further my goals?" (her goals most likely having something to do with massive destruction, I really am not sure though, she wrote them down and handed them to the DM) and the answer was no. So we know that there are no WMDs in the mansion at least :P And to the previous poster, since we are a newly formed group, we dont have a reputation to ruin, and the stormlord would probably enjoy any bad rep we got, also, there are no known harpers in the area. Please forgive poor Woodrow, he can actually speak quite well, he just has the typing capacity of a chimpanzee. Although it might be because he doesn't think about things before he does them, such as making a Ninja character that will backstab the group to the first guy who hands him 100 pp. Seriously, why would anyone create a character that is such a mercenary (and his Ninja is) in a game based on teamwork? We plan on slapping multiple geases and Marks of Justice to make him a regular character. |
| Nyat04-18-04, 04:35 PM | For those of you who can't read Woodrow's post, I give you a translation, though I know it isnt nearly as good as some people on these forums can do. In the town we're in the Zhents are working with the mayor and the mailitia (lead by a paladin) and have chased off the person the person who called us here (we think). We came to a town and found that Zhents are working with the mayor (actually they are forcing him to do what they want). The Zhents are working with the town militia which is lead by a Paladin that could be powerful, but I have no information that could possibly bring me to either of those conclusions. The person who called us to the town is a fugitive. We were considering infilertating the mayer's manor where the zhents r headquartered. Before we could i was conttacted by a phycic friend of mine who told me they had pwoerful wizards in there so it was a bad idea (then again this guy may very well be a Zhent). We were thinking of infiltrating the mayors mansion where the Zhents have set up camp (even though we had no such plans). Then when looking for someone I got captured by the Zhentarim because I am a Ninja that didn't max out hide. I got dominated and then made a deal with someone to spy on my party for 100 pp. He gave me a ring of mindshield that also lets me telepathicly talk to him, this guy is probably working for the Zhents. When the group began to think about attacking the mansion I told them that it had powerful mages because the guy who paid me to spy on my group told me to. There is a very good chance that he was lying. For various reasons i couldn't tellt he group where my info came from and none of them asked or demanded a sense moytive check, but all of them said they were now suspicious of me. I couldnt tell the group where I had gotten the info because then they would have known I was working with their enemy. They didnt make sense motive checks even though it wouldnt have mattered if they did, becuase there is no sound why I could have gotten the info. Adding onto my info the cleric who is a strmlord of talos then had a augruyr which said nothing that benefited her would be in manor. BAsed upon this info they have decided to just try to destroy manor. Heres some incomplete information on the augury the Stormlord found. And now she wants to be in character and level the mansion! What kind of a stormlord would be so destructive! WHich will alert paladin who is prob very high level of our intentions and might :censored: :censored: :censored: :censored: the zhents off enough to have them send people cabable of killing us on our trail. Attacking the mansion will alert the paladin, who I think is very high level for no apparent reason, that we dont like the Zhentarim! And then the Zhents will send people to kill us, because adventurers could never deal with the Zhentarim, its not there are ever campaigns based around stopping them! Then there are all the low level guards that work for the Zhents that would all be killed by one or two fireballs! How can we deal with that?!?!?! Thats only if we succed in or pla thoughnif the wizs are really that powerful we're dead when we attack manor to begin with. I'm the only one in group who sees lak of logic here, plz tell me some of u do to. But we might just die when we attack the mansion because their are powerful mages that might not be real or as strong as I was told by the guy is probably a Zhent. I am the only one in the group who can see the logic here, please agree with me. Even though I schew the facts and ignore all the parts that hurt my side of the argument. |
| treeandswordmetal04-18-04, 07:52 PM | lol, wow. sounds like you have a real wacky player on your hands. um, I agree wholeheartedly with you. When our chars are 12th level, since we are such advanced and clever(and lucky) players, we can take on like up to CR 18 stuff. so yeah. |
| Storming_Flukey04-20-04, 12:07 AM | I see no logic in only one persons persective, and that is Woodrow. Twelfth level characters are definetally powerful enough to blow up buildings, especially with a stormlord and two magic-users. And at night. There are plenty of ways to do so without becoming a suspect. And I imagine the stormlord would enjoy the chaos, especially if "accidentally" other random buildings got hit *coughyeschough*. To update you on my beloved/not-so-beloved ninja: In the bar I took my party to (yes, I am the famed Stormlord, fear my wrath! Actually, I prefer the term Stormstress; it sounds more feminine) I cast Zone of Truth and began to interogate my ninja. After he dodged the question "Where do the voices in your head that are telling you all these things come from?", a very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, very, hot elf comes up and tells me that he was the one responsible for the voices in my ninja's head. after chatting with this elf for a while I kicked Nyat (Caranthir) underneath the table and he casted drown on my ninja. Meanwhile, Woodrow flips out. He screams and hollers about how we have no right to kill his character. Nyat, in his awesome coolness, pulls out a written copy of our reasons, suspicions, etc. for Woodrow to look over. This quiets him slightly. I order Diana (grrr....), our ranger to stabilize him, just so Woodrow would stop flipping out. Anyway, we are now in a bar, with two unconcious guys (my kensai drunk himself to unconciousness) and an illusionary elf, which is what the really hot elf turned out to be. The real one shows up later with an offer to hire our party out. I decided to accept and postpone my plans of utter destruction and chaos. Now, does ANYONE think this isn't logical? |
| Nyat04-20-04, 12:11 AM | Your starting to make me think it isn't logical, although I suppose thats what supreme chaos is. And you failed to mention that on my list of reasons to suspect Woodrow I also included his arguments and their flaws, that was sweet, to bad Woodrow only read like two and went to play magic. |
| Lethian04-20-04, 12:11 AM | Aside from a Stormstress of Talos going gaga over some random elf, not as such, no. Well, they might be, but since your end game is unknown to the rest of the party, we really have no judgement on that. |
| Storming_Flukey04-20-04, 12:16 AM | I was not going gaga over a random elf! Watch your words young wizard, or they'll be your last! Anyway, it makes perfect sense. To me. Which is all that counts. |
| Nyat04-20-04, 12:20 AM | I guess he wans't quite "random", he was a plot NPC. But you still did go gaga over him. Which was why I left to go find spell scrolls. And just because an NPC has a charisma of around 30 and is male, your stormstress doesn't need to melt into a puddle and flutter her eyelashes. |
| Storming_Flukey04-20-04, 12:26 AM | I did not melt at all. I just flirted...because he was cute and I knew he wouldn't follow orders. I may be chaotic, but I know better than to order a complete stranger, no matter how cute, to climb in bed with me. |
| Nyat04-20-04, 12:30 AM | :uh-huh: This is why I was so scared when your character ordered my character to stay within 10 ft of yours. Remember who has cha 8 in the group, he must really want to hire us to stand through that tortu...I mean flirting :smirk: I am so dead tomorrow arn't I? I think chaotic would definitly be the best way to describe our group, chaotic, and destructive. *sigh* |
| Storming_Flukey04-20-04, 12:39 AM | Oh, I didn't want to sleep with your character, Nyat. I had other reasons for wanting him within that radius. Something to do with a note we recieved. |
| Dagda Mor04-20-04, 12:55 AM | Ok, Nyat has asked the rest of the party, including me, the DM, to say their part. However, he pretty much covered the most relevant material without any errors, aside from the yuan-ti being a ranger and not a cleric. I'll try and add on to this. As the Ninja was trying to avoid answering the question of who hired him while in the zone of truth, that person decided that the game was up and politely introduced himself to the group then and there (For those of you who've read Hogfather, it was like the scene with Teatime as a waiter, only without the knife between the fingers). He gives them his name: Nefahrin, one of the people the letter told the group to be suspicious of. At this point the Stormlord has Nyat cast drown on the Ninja, who fails his save and is down to 0 hp. Nefahrin and her enter into polite conversation (She has Nyat do a heal check on the Ninja to stabilize him). Out of game, it comes up that Nefahrin has a Charisma of around 28, so the leader decides that her Stormlord is attracted to this guy. In and out of game, the rest of the party's jaws drop as the stormlord starts acting pleasant. Eventually, Nefahrin is on friendly terms with the group and has given them another reason to take an earlier adventure hook: he is offering to pay for a few items he believes are in the site in the High Moor they'd be visiting. That's where the game is at now. The town they're in is called Loamhaven. It's my own creation, a small town of farmers and merchants. It was created to serve as a stopping point on a new trade road that goes along the strip of land between the Serpent Hills and the High Moor, and to host the growing number of adventurers who set out each year on the Summer Hunt. There are several NPCs who are around the same level as the PCs and others who may be the same way. If you can't tell, this campaign has a heavy dose of intrigue and mystery. This is something I do automatically; one adventure had the party being unwittingly manipulated into clearing out several anti-psionic safegaurds by a party of psionic drow. About 2 weeks ago the group suffered a TPK that was 1/3 DM miscalculation/bad luck, 1/3 "heroic stands" (read: suicide to get new characters) and 1/3 player stupidity. We decided to keep going, only shifting it a month ahead and moving the party level from 9th to 12th . One thing more: Nefarhin was Nyat's old character. |
| woodrow04-20-04, 01:28 AM | In order to avoid furthere annoyance i deleted the orginal thread post by me, i wrote it while angery and apologize to everyone. I also thank my party members for bringing me back to realtiy and calming me down. But judge me not, for when your favorite character is lying on deaths door dependent on a stormlady's (not storm mistress) mercy and the player who plays said character and another party member (Nyat) are annoyed at u, i doubt you'll be as lucid. |
| Storming_Flukey04-21-04, 12:54 AM | I am the Stromstress of Talos. DON'T CONTRADICT ME!!!! |
