I have a Wizard that was recently made blind by Shar for refuseing to join her and practice the art of the Shadow Weave. He has tried to get it cured but can not. And since Divine Intervention is rare to non exhsistant he is kinda buggered.

However I noticed in a series of Books, that Gromph Baenre uses his familar to see, what spell is it? ALSO I was wondering, is it possible to make a spell book that could talk? One that could recite the spells for him to memorize instead of reading? IF so how much would it cost and what spells would it take to make.

Anything's possible with magic. Why don't you just abandon your current body and possess another?

Wow, you must be blessed ...

Try in temple of Selune or Mystra, if anyone has the answers they do.

There are many spells (I don't know the nature of the curse, but for physical there's all types of regeneration and for magical there Mordenkainen's disjunction) or you can use something that provides blindsense. As for familiar I think that only a empathic link.

Unless you're a worshipper of Shar, she really had no case for blinding you in the first place, let alone incurably. Why would the most powerful evil deity in the Realms waste her time to personally blind some random adventurer when divine intervention is supposed to be rare?

If it's part of a background story you deviced yourself, then cool, have fun with it... but I certainly hope this is not a case of DM making inconsistent and unfair rulings.

Maybe work in an angle where the PC gains blindsense 30' (through magic, some ambiguous use of divine intervention, training, etc.). It might warrant boosting the PC's ECL by 1, but it could work. Maybe give the PC the chance to improve upon it with a variety of homemade feats. Blind-fight might also be a necessary feat.

A loregem of sorts might replace a spellbook. An ioun stone that while rotating imparts spells through concentration, taking the same amount of time that would normally be spent reading (or perhaps much less time, depending on the level of magic).

And concerning Gromph, perhaps a familiar might act as the eyes of the wizard. A newly-summoned familiar might not work this way by the RAW, but a sympathetic DM might consider this as an option to allow the PC to actually function in-game rather than blunder about blind as a bat.

The DM should certainly consider all ideas, since he's/she's the one who blinded the PC in the first place! ;)

Hmm... This would have been much easier if you were a sorcerer.

Problem 1, How do you study your spell book? If you can't see, then you can't study the spell book, and you can't prepare new spells.

Possible solutions include: Using the scry spell on your familiar, and be able to magicly see the spell book. Eventually though you may need to buy a language (Brail) and remake your spell book.

Problem 2, Combat.

I suggest focusing on letting your familiar deliver touch spells for you in combat. Check out the PHB2 for some nice feats for that. If you haven't picked a familiar, I would recomend a bat. It has blindsense, and so you can cast darkness spells, and both you and your familiar should be ok.

Problem 3, Getting around.
Use your staff, familiar, and any blindsense feats you can get.

visit a church of Mystra, logically the Mysttrans would aid your character. for free. since Mystra isn't going to want Shar striking down wizards who refuse to sue the shadow weave blind, she'd feel obliged to intervene,

There is a spellcasting prc in dragon297(the one with the drow on the cover) which revolves around the concept of a blind spellcaster. It's actually pretty good.:)

Thanks for your information.

As for my Wizard being blind, I think its part of some plot the DM is being, not sure yet if he is being malicous yet.

Sofar I have little information beyond what the DM reveals to us lowly players and I shall check out the blind feats in the PG 2. Lucky i own it, just never read it.

My character does alas have a familiar. Our DM allows us to summon any "reg" familiar in the books, so my chara has a Ferret.
Think i should aquire the bat somehow instead?

I think you shouldn't take any feats against blindness it's a waste, just let your DM continue the plot.

Anyway I remembered one blind wizard from Viper's Kiss, he was an elven wizard who was pushing with his magic a boat to Ormpettar and the heroes of the novel Aravin and Kerell guided him to blast a naga.

I've got to agree with Jiggawha. Trust that your DM has this planned this blindness episode out and that he/she has figured out a way that you'll be able to still be a functional and contributing member of your adventurering party.

If you have concerns about how your now-blind charater can contribute to the party, bring them up (in private) with your DM before the next game.

Your DM will probably either assure you that you can continue with the character (and maybe give you a clue as to how they see a blind mage becoming useful) or give you an indication that it's time to look at making a new character.

Keep the ferret. I would make sure I focused on touch spells that my familiar could deliver for me. The biggest thing would be to figure out how you can study your spell book.

Until your character can get cured by the clergy of Mystra, I'd suggest a robe of eyes.

Ineresting I never thought about such a thing. Would the Robe of Eyes however still work with him blind?

And I shall keep the Ferret, and try as you say use touch spells. My chara sofar as the Elven Wizard/Cleric in the group recite his spell book to help him memorize things. But can this Work? The DM has allowed it, but I am curious is it normaly allowed?

Sofar the DM has not made his plans clear, and has kept my chara blind. Even though the group has made attempts to the Clergy of Mystra in Waterdeep to heal him. All attempts always fail.

Begining to irritate me. What book would I find information on Lore Gems? And could my chara or another make one easy enough to use it as a spell book.

My friend is attempt to have his Wizard create a spell that would allow him to temporarily connect his familiars vision to his own.
