Ambassador to Drow [Archive] - Wizards Community

02-28-04, 10:49 AM One of my (gloaming, CG sor1) Pcs is, due to a practical joke, the ambassidor to the drow of menezzerabrann(sp?). He recently:

Killed 5 House Banre temple guard
stole a sacrificial dragon (another Pc)
killed a lesser house preistess
left the city without permission
and stole an escaped slave (yet another Pc)

Now he wants to return.

My question is, which of these will be canceled out by diplomatic immunity, and what would be the punishment for the others. Please no sure-fatal punishments.

02-28-04, 12:26 PM Well Dude, I think it all depends heavily on one thing. WHO KNOWS. As in, does anyone know he did these things?

I think the Drow are all about punishing transgressions, but they all transgress. So the trick is to not get caught. Do all the evil, royally messed up stuff you want, but as long as no one has an inkling it was you, you're good and Loth might even smile upon you.

Even if someone knows you did it, but can't prove it, that's almost as good as getting away clean... but now you have someone who knows, but do they know you know, etc., etc. and so the webs of the Drow become very complex and really deadly.

To answer your question though, I think ony leaving the City without permission is the only thing he's safe to do. All that other stuff is pretty non-negotionable. The worst is the killing of the temple Gaurds. Banere is gonna wanna know who had the cojones to do such a thing... and lop them off.

Depends who he stole the dragon from and who the slave belongs to.

As for the killing of the Priestess... that just has bad written all over it. That house, even if minor, is going to be out for blood.

So, if no one knows he's the guy doing this stuff (though having a Dragon that's recently been stolen hanging out with you is a pretty good tip off to who you stole it from), he should be fine.

The least amount I can see happening (if the people your PC messed with know its him, but can't prove it.) is that he makes some really powerful enemies that want to humiliate, torture, and generally make his life and death messy and painful.

02-28-04, 12:46 PM In Menzoberranzan, you're in constant danger anyway... especially if you're not a Drow. But if being in the position of ambassador affords any political power, certain Drow will undoubtedly try to take advantage of that... maybe they know about the Gloaming's transgressions and will use that knowledge as blackmail against him, or maybe they will try and steer him to do more of the same (killing priestesses and the like) because if he gets caught, it's the Gloaming that's going to take the fall for it!

One question: why oh why would any non-Drow want to go back to that dreadful city?

02-28-04, 01:20 PM That actually sounds great. Why kill the sucker when you can use him to further your own ends.

I'd say that's a great way to deal with that situation. It doesn't kill off your PC and opens up a lot more rping avenues.

Obviously motivation is a big factor here.

Yeah, your PC must have death wish or something. If I fragged some Drow Priestess in Menzo-"Loth's City"-berranzan and got away, I'd just keep on going.

The grimlock (escaped slave, killed his master) ftr1 TN Pc, who was living on the steets, saw the ambassador as he passed in front of the ally he was hiding in, and dropped him to -9 HP. a preistess (lesser house one) heals the ambassador, and then, He turns on them, and the grimlock allies himself with the ambassador. To get out of the city, they had to get into the temple of house Banre, and get to a vent to exit. They staged it as the grimlock was the ambassador's slave, but a guard in the sacrifice chamber relised the shacles weren't locked, and so they had to kill 5 guards, with the help of a wyrmling copper dragon (Pc), who was inside her egg, and had been watching events transpire outside, as she knew if she fully hatched, she would be killed. (they cast stasis spells on the eggs when they got them, but she rolled all 20s on the saves) They managed to get away, after sealing the vent behind them.

lets clarify this a little, are you an ambassador for the drow, or to the drow?

If you are an ambassador for the drow, quickly arrange a secret escape - you are a dupe, nothing more, and your end is nigh.

If you are an ambassador to the drow, then it depends on the political value of your actions and to whom its is worth or worthless.

03-07-04, 02:48 PM Thing to remeber about drow cities is that there is no real government. There are no police. If a triel saw you she would tortue you then kill you. Simple. You got away with it I doubt you would be chased after for so minor a crime. Thats the thing about menzo. Its not about whats legal and whats not its about who are you :censored::censored::censored::censored: :censored::censored::censored: off and if you can get away with it :). I do know that the head of the five top houses do "rule" the city but they dont have much control or care for things that they dont concern them.

I am sorry, but if your character is male then you can already forget about it. Even a female killing 5 temple guards is even going to get her head severed by Triel. Temple guards are female, it's the highest honor for the non cleric females, so you probably defiled and insulted Lolth and if I'm correct Triel is a huge believer in Lolth (long time since I read the books). Also by admitting it you make house Baenre look weak to the other houses.

If I was DM I'd suggest staying away from Menzoberanzan, the punishment for admitting it would be dead. Not admitting it but they know you did it would mean Triel capturing you and torturing you for a couple of years before killing you.

03-23-04, 10:13 PM Shoda Panda, if a low-level PC could kill five of the guards, they were most likely guards of a lesser House Baenre temple, & far beneath Triel's notice. If nobody saw Gloaming do it, he's in no danger.

Well are you sure about that? By reading the first novel of the WSQ series, it is clear that the houses organise minimal patrols in the city. If only to reassert the drow's control on the place.

Furthermore, as a DM, I would consider it quite likely that House Baenre will want to retaliate for that action. They certainly do not want to show any sign of weakness by letting someone get away with murdering their Temple Guards.

Sure the Drow are Chaotic and don't sample in Courts, Laws and similar things but they still maintain a kind of order/status-quo through retaliation and talion law.

Anyway, a question remains:

How could a Sor1 Gloaming kill 5 Drow Temple Guards... Sounds like nonsense to me...

That would no happen in one of my adventures. Not by normal methods.

No central government. There are no such things as police. Think of it as more like the Five Mafia Familes of New York back in the earily 1900s. They policed there own. They took revenge there own. Instead of drow houses they were just familys...with a few ppl actually part of the family/house and the rest just enforcers/thugs/muscle/gangsters/runners ect working for them. Could a gambino get away with killing five bonnano guards? The odds of doing it and getting away are just as liklely as one drow of one house killing five drow of anothe house :P.
