| nekrolog10-23-04, 05:26 PM | So Travis Stout has a writing credit on the cover of PGtF, and Ed Bonny on MM2. On the products page, it shows them as the two named authors on the cover of Ancient Empires... This might be an irrational fear, but does anyone else worry when they don't see a familiar FR designer's name on the cover of an accessory book? I guess Rich Baker always oversees the development and everything, so there's a consistent moderating force behind the releases. Also, considering that Ancient Empires deals with anceint FR lore, I would expect to see one of the older more FR-centric authors writing it. Does anyone know anything about Ed Bonny or Travis Stout? |

I really want this book to be well done, from the description it has the potential to be either very good or very bland, depending on the authors. (no pressure!) :D Edit: the Candlekeep thread running on the topic is here (http://www.candlekeep.com/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=2999&SearchTerms=Ancient+Empires). After reading it, I'm quite confident that it will be a tasty book. |

I'm not worried, not with those two checking facts and with Rich keeping an editorial eye on things. After all, Thomas Reid didn't have much FR accessory experience either (just a few novels), and Shining South came out just fine. |

I recalled it after reading the thread that was quoted in this thread. :) |
| Krash10-24-04, 09:01 AM | Don't damn Ed Bonny and Travis Stout with faint praise, gentlemen. They certainly did their homework for AE and their efforts were considerable and (for an FR oldtimer) pleasing and encouraging. Of course, I like to think that Rich, Eric and I helped out a little as well in terms of how the product turns out - but I guess we'll have to wait and see what you, the fans, think. -- George Krashos |

(We being me and anyone else who agrees with me. :D ) |
| Tempus66510-24-04, 01:29 PM | Besides, lots of posters on these boards know an awful lot about the Forgotten Realms while their names remain unknown. It's not just a small group that knows everything :) I am really looking forward to this release. |
| Mordmorgan the Mad10-25-04, 04:42 AM | I think the book will turn out just fine. I haven't been too disappointed with any FR product to date (although the number of typographical errors in PGtF did concern me), and I don't think AE will change that at all. It is reassuring that they've got the old pros checking in on them, but I'm sure they got the project because they can do a great job. |
| Tempus66510-25-04, 05:52 AM | I haven't been too disappointed with any FR product to date (although the number of typographical errors in PGtF did concern me). What troubled me most was that they kept on mentioning weeks in Serpent Kingdoms, instead of tendays. This is not a pretty big issue, but can become a little troublesome when talking about class features and such. |
| Shemeska the Marauder10-25-04, 01:30 PM | For what it's worth I've rather liked most of the stuff that I've seen Ed Bonny write. :) |
| kilamanjaro10-25-04, 02:48 PM | I've always liked Mr. Bonny's work. He's had some great articles in Dragon and some of the best monsters in FF were his (I think). |
