Hi guys,

found this on an author profile... says there is going to come a big forgotten realms project... any idea what that means? I hope its a further progression on the timeline :)

Besides working on miniatures, Matthew Sernett was lead designer for Spell Compendium, Tome of Magic, Hellspike Prison, and the new Dungeons & Dragons Basic Game. He also contributed work to Tome of Battle, Player's Handbook II, Complete Mage, Complete Scoundrel, and a big project for the Forgotten Realms he can't talk about yet. Before that, Matthew did a fair amount of freelancing for Wizards of the Coast and was Editor in Chief of Dragon.

-We'll have to wait and see, though I think that might be a large amount of horn tooting, since nearly everything is labeled as some "Realms-shattering" event.

[sigh] I'm actually starting to get rather bored with the Realms(possibly 'cus i don't play the game anymore).

IMO, whenever there's a RSE, they should turn out a new Campaign setting(:)), with all of the changes that have occured. All of the effects on various people... And if it's an RSE, i expect the whole world to be changed after it, not one corner in the middle of nowhere, and a group of people i don't particularly care about.

Well turning out a whole new campaign setting would be extreme, but let there be updates, and let the world be more dynamic. There should be a thousand things changing in the background as you play the game. The world shouldn't be static while you're on your adventure.

Hmmm... was there ever a write-up of what happened to Cormyr after the Shades decimated their military? Was it ever written how their society changed?
(maybe it was and i simply haven't read it... someone give me a reference)

Or how the multiple attacks on the Elven nations, the Tree of Souls being planted, and the like, affected the Elves.. Or how Obould's Horde affected the North.. Etc.

I'm sick of RSE's.

There's any number of signficant events possible that could be a 'big project'

The aftermath of the Dragon Rage
The War with Mullhorand and Unther
The turmoil with the Tethyrian nobility
The Shades and their expansion
The weakening of the Phaerem imprisonment
Obould's new kingdom
Lathlander's crazy scheme
Banes return and re-solidification of power
The aftermath of the War of the Spider Queen
So on and so on

I'll note a big project does not nesscarily mean a realms shaking event. take a look at this guys writing credits.

no so far all the realms shaking events have been protrayed in novel form. this guy isn't a novel writer and I'm guessing it's not a novel he's working on (he'd have mentioned it's an upcoming realms NOVEL if it was) most likely this is a new sourcebook he's working on. it may not be realms shaking but rather just a FR sourcebook.

so the case is what would a SB writer consider a big realms project?

I'm sick of RSE's.Agreed.

As an aside though... this "Big Project" has been hinted at in a few of the game designers scrolls over at Candlekeep for a while now (mostly Ed's).

Hopefully its about Lantan, Realmspace, Obould's kingdom, Icewind Dale, or one of the toher continents.

-Well, that's what Regional Sourcebooks are for. You need to be lucky though, and have the region chosen at the right time. I think Greyhawk did something to the effect of a bi-yearly newspaper, or something like that. I vaguely remember seeing that somewhere- maybe in a Dragon Magazine. But, I think that something like this would be awesome for the Realms. Think about it- a monthly "newspaper" published to inform everyone about the going-ons of the Realms. "Interviews" with important people. Weather, maybe. Little goodies like that. And, it shouldn't be too expensive because it would look more like a thin magazine more than anything.

I think you mean the Greyhawk Gazetteer (sp?). I've seen those popping up here and there but never actually read one, if they are what you think they are, no reason to deprive the Realms of them :)

-Yeah, thats what I am talking about. For a "living" world, like the Realms, I think those things would do wonders.

I can't guess as to what this Realms Shattering 'Thing' is, as i've been in Iraq for quite some time but I hope it's not another let down.
As an aside: Has anyone harbored hopes of a DnD Online: Forgotten Realms?

generally the views on DDO for FR are split, many of us here belvie it's only HURT the setting.

Could well be a revamp of the old Bloodstone Lands thing, though this time more "successful" for the evil guys. I know some would jump up and down if they see Orcus return to the Realms with a vengeance and since something that eats dragons lairs in Mount Doom ... ahem ... Castle Perilous ...

Then again, the return of the Shade or Sarya could lead to some fine campaigns, as so far, they only have been covered in novels.

I doubt that we will see much drow stuff.

Then again, one thing hinted at in Monsters of Faerūn is the hive-switch of these scorpion guys from Matztica (sp?).

I do hope it is nothing sea-ish.

Well, the next Dungeon Magazine adventure path is going to be a piratical one... and they haven't actually done an aquatic environment book yet, although it would seem odd if they came out with a Sandstorm-for-oceans just for the FR. Maybe details on the various pirates and seas of the FR?

What about Stormwrack? I thought that was aquatic-based. Although generic, rather than FR specific.

aye stormwrek was really all thats needed. a book dedicated souly to sea stuff in FR might be kinda silly, on the other hand a regional book dealing with say.. the sea of fallen stars might be neat

Actually, a Stormwrack-linked sourcebook that detailed the Island Kingdoms (Moonshaes, Lantan, etc.) as well as the underwater races and civilizations of the Sea of Swords/Trackless Sea would be a very interesting idea for a new product...

indeed, and WOTC has basicly done "linked realms books" before.
COV and COR could be seen as books linked to BOED and BOVD respectivly.

I'm not sure when it starts but it is called "The Savage Tide". You can find more info about it at Paizo.com.
