| Jetsam12-15-04, 01:03 AM | Ok. This is to all the experienced and knowledgeable people who know Faerun so well. My DM recently asked me to run a campaign. He is on sabbatical for now. Anyways, I have the opening scene, and the first few adventures all planned out. So, thus far, there is no problem. The problem is . . . . I have no idea where to start it after the opening scene! The opening is going to take place in Waterdeep, but after that, I want the players to visit places that are relatively unknown to most people. So, that means, no Cormyr, no Shadowdale, no Tantras, no Icewind Dale, no Calimsham, no Thay, no Underdark (well, maybe the Underdark, but is much later), et cetera. So, if you could toss about some great places to visit that no one knows of, I would very appreciative. Oh, by the way. I am on a bit of a timetable here. The campaign is to start this Saturday. |
| Dargoth12-15-04, 01:18 AM | I suggest you invest in the Shining South Source book |
| Cole Deschain12-15-04, 03:52 AM | Amn. Westgate. Carradoon. Dambrath. A'course, there's always "^ What he said." |
| Tempus66512-15-04, 08:35 AM | Westgate. :) This place is indeed very interesting. You could very well have a portal in Waterdeep lead to a street/building in Westgate. Westgate really has a lot to offer. |
| Kazzaroth Pan'theon12-15-04, 09:17 AM | Some intresting places; -Myth Drannor ruins + other ruis of ancient kingdoms -Any "cold regions" -Dambrath (yes, it is mentioned earlier, but it is a good location) -Maztica -Some distant island in sea :D. -City of Shade |
| Titus_Crow12-15-04, 02:19 PM | me and my group just decided to start playing forgotten realms and i was wondering if any one could sugest a campagin for level 1s and 2s to play like something i could prin out or download |

Currently under the influence of several power groups, including: The Twisted Rune, The Cult of the Dragon, The Zhentarim (one of the two biggest players) and the Harpers. Darkhold is nearby, which hasn't been fully written up and could be used for several fantastic adventures. It is currently being run by Cyrisist Zhents, but the Banite Zhents would certainly like it under THEIR control. The Harpers of course, want to completely screw everything up for all the BBEGs there, so... enter the PCs. Don't forget that the Sythscillian Empire isn't too far away either. |
| Ty12-15-04, 04:16 PM | I second (or is it third) the Shining South. Very interesting place. Border Kingdoms (very much undetailed officially) is right next door. Other goods spots we've previously used: Damara/Vassa/Impiltur Chessenta/Chondath/Unther The following are good, detailed areas you did not mention: Moonshaes and Ruathym Islands Amn, Tethyr, and Baldur's Gate. The Moonsea The Vast and its city-states. |
| Jetsam12-17-04, 04:16 AM | Thanks a lot! :) There were some really great suggestions listed. Some of which, I had thought of (the Shining South sourcebook), and some which never even came to my mind (Westgate & Sunset Vale). Obviously, I have Forgotten quite a bit about my Realms lore and geography. :( I think, since I ultimately plan on having the group work for a mysterious benefactor (is there any other kind?), that he may have the centrally located in Westgate, but run some "errands" for him in a few of the other cities and locales mentioned. After I post I am going searching for info on Westgate. Probably in the Useful Links thread. Anyone have any suggestions off the top of their head? Again, I express my thanks to all who provided a voice to my question. |
| Dargoth12-17-04, 05:51 AM | Thanks a lot! :) Anyone have any suggestions off the top of their head? Again, I express my thanks to all who provided a voice to my question. He lives underground Hes orgionally from Zhentil Keep and hes got fangs :D If you dont know who Im talking about then you need to invest in a copy of Lords of Darkness |
| BirthRight12-17-04, 10:21 AM | I would suggest a trip to Neverwinter it has to be a DM's dream... it has no maps what so ever. No street maps, sewer maps, nothing. Something about how Lord Nasher dosent want anyone to know the secrets of the City, so maps of the city cant be made. DM's can place any urban adventure in the city, and almost any NPC encounters. Great thing is its a metropolis, so you can get those big magic items there, or sell your expensive stuff there. Theres alot of slush in a 2nd edition book titled the North, and some in the FR Campaing and Silver marches. |

| Mendicant12-17-04, 09:24 PM | I've always envisioned a quest to Anauroch - perhaps the pherimm have come out of hiding - or the Zents are at it again? |
| Dargoth12-17-04, 10:50 PM | I've always envisioned a quest to Anauroch - perhaps the pherimm have come out of hiding - or the Zents are at it again? *Chuckle* The Phaerium are most DEFINATELY out of hiding |
| Mendicant12-18-04, 12:39 AM | What was the chuckle about? Have I missed something since the Fall of Netheril and the creation of the Anauroch when the Sharn drove the Phaerimm underground??? Has 3e got more info to offer? |
| Petrankov12-20-04, 11:19 AM | There is good info in the Cloak and Dagger supplement for 2nd edition available in PDF for about $5. Also Lords of Darkness has good info on the Night Masks. I ran about four sessions in Westgate recently. Had a blast. A major city campaign can be sustained there for years. I think its a bit more interesting than Waterdeep because the Lords aren't there to keep order so things can get wildly out of control in westgate if you want them to. |
| Mystery Man12-20-04, 01:10 PM | How many moons does Toril have? :) |
| Kuje3112-20-04, 01:17 PM | How many moons does Toril have? :) One.......... |
| Lashan12-21-04, 11:12 PM | ...though there are the shards. Many fine contributions for locations, but what about the Unapproachable East? I mean Thesk and the Great Dale. It could lead to tie ins in Westgate. The trade does flow west. |

Very much so I suggest you read the Return of the Arch Wizards series of novels by Troy Denning they cover the Return of Shade Enclave (A Netherese city) and the escape of the Phaerimm from the Sharn wall |
